Masters Swimming

Location: Freedom Hall Pool through May 27 Legion Street Pool starting June 1 Call: 423-833-5595 Date: Monday, Wednesday and Friday Time: 6 a.m.–7 a.m. Age: 18 and older Cost: $50 per month Join this group of adult swimming enthusiasts for organized workouts supervised by a professional coach. Participants range in ability from novice to former high school and college athletes. This motivational group will get you into shape, help train you for triathlons, and improve your techniques. Kayak Roll Class

Location: Freedom Hall Pool Date: Tuesday 7:35 p.m.–8:45 p.m. Age: 5 and older Cost: $2 per class Need a place to practice with your Kayak? Come join us in the pool to perfect your Kayak skills. Kayaks are not provided. Note: This is not an open swim must be in a kayak for the majority of the time. Requirements: Must be able to swim 25 meters freestyle without stopping to participate. This time is set aside for Boy and Girl Scout troops to work on their water skills that are necessary to obtain badges. If you would like for our team members to assist with instruction, please bring skill requirements prior to your scheduled date. 100-Mile Swim

Location: Memorial Park Community Center (Lap Pool) Call: 423-434-5750 Date: July 1-Dec. 31 Cost: One-time fee of $10 Looking for a way to stay motivated in your swim workout? Join the 100-Mile Swim Club and keep a tally of the laps you swim during each workout on the boards provided. Shirts will be presented in January for those paid participants in this swim challenge.

Aqua Mix

Location: Memorial Park Community Center (Lap Pool) Call: 423-434-5750 Date: Tuesday, Thursday Time: 9:15 a.m.-10:15 a.m. Cost: $4 per class or $30 per month This class is a perfect blend of shallow and deep water exercise that will build cardio, strength and flexibility and leave you feeling invigorated for the rest of your day! Enjoy utilizing buoyancy (floatation) belts and resistance equipment to experience NO IMPACT WORKOUT sparing your joints without compromising your desire for a total body fitness routine. (Ability to swim is not required.) Recreation swim time is perfect for bringing the kids to play. Children 12 and under must be accompanied by someone at least 16 years of age or older. Any child 6 or younger must be within arm’s length of an adult at all times. Patrons must exit the pool 15 minutes after the close of open swim.

Mommy and Me Swim Time

Location: Memorial Park Community Center (Teaching Pool) Call: 423-434-5750 Date and Time: Monday-Friday Noon-1 p.m. (August-May) Monday-Friday 1-2 p.m. (June–July) Ages: 4 and under Cost: $1 Are you a parent/guardian that is looking for a time when it is less crowded to bring your little ones to the pool? The shallow end of the pool has been set aside for you and your little one to enjoy the water. All that are not potty trained must wear a swim diaper.

Pool Parties

Location Legion Street Pool Date and Time: Please call 423-461-4856 for more information on dates and times. Booking: Parties must be booked at Legion Street Pool starting on Memorial Day, May 25. Cost: $90/2 hours (2 hours minimum includes 3 lifeguards) 51-100 swimmers, add 1 guard $35/2 hours 101-150 swimmers, add 2 guards $70/2 hours 151-200 swimmers, add 3 guards $105/2 hours Parties are scheduled in 2-hour time segments. The time includes 2 hours with 2 lifeguards and up to 50 guests, which include swimmers and non-swimmers. Additional fees are required for additional guests. Guests will be asked to exit the water 15 minutes prior to the end of their party and exit the building by the end of their 2 hour slot. 12

Learning Fun & Activities

American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification

Location: Freedom Hall Pool Call: 423-461-4872 Date: Class 1: April 22, 23, 24, 30, May 1 Class 2: May 13, 14, 15, 21, 22 Class Times: Friday: 6-9 p.m. (first weekend only) Saturdays: 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Sundays: 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Ages: 15+ Cost: $200 per person Registration: A pretest will be held on Saturdays at Memorial Park Community Center or Freedom Hall Pool from 11 a.m.noon. Pretests consist of a non-stop 300 meter swim, 2 minutes of treading water using no hands and, a 20 meter brick dive in deep water with no goggles. The pretest must be completed before enrollment into class. Classes run two weekends in a row. This course is for those interested in becoming a certified lifeguard. Upon completion of the course, the participant will be certified in life guarding, first aid, CPR Pro and AED essentials. American Red Cross Lifeguard Recertification

Location: Freedom Hall Pool Call: 423-461-4872 Date: Class 1: April 30 and May 1 Class 2: May 21 and 22 Time: Saturday: 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. Sunday: 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. Age: 16 and older Cost: $100 per person Class is held the second weekend of the full lifeguarding class. This course is for those who need their American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification updated. If you have not taken the American Red Cross Lifeguarding Course before you will need to enroll for the full program. Upon completion of the course, the participant will be certified in lifeguarding, first aid, CPR Pro and AED essentials for the next two years. 13

Dates: vary with each session (Please call 423-434-5755 for availability) Times vary with each session Age: Beginner – Advanced 4-13 years Cost: $40 per session per child for Beginner I – Intermediate II Location: Memorial Park Community Center (Teaching Pool) Water you wading for? Learn to swim! Beginner through Advanced consists of eight 30 minute lessons for $40. Beginner: This level is for beginners who have had little to no experience in the water, outside of the bathtub. The swimmers will work on gaining confidence and competence in the pool environment including submersion and breath control. To move into the intermediate level, the swimmer should be able to demonstrate going underwater for 5 or more seconds, floating on front and back with little to no assistance, kicks on front and back with little to no assistance, doggie paddling with little to no assistance, and entering and exiting the water safely. Intermediate: This level will begin training swimmers to complete all skills in the water with no assistance. Swimmers will start developing freestyle, backstroke, and breaststroke. To move on to the advanced level, the swimmer must demonstrate floating on front and back and then regaining to their feet, streamline gliding on front and back with leg action, freestyle arm action with support, backstroke arm action with support, rolling to front and back, sculling, and water safety knowledge. Advanced: This session will develop competency in freestyle, backstroke, and breaststroke. Swimmers will also begin learning butterfly and flip turns. When the skills are completely learned in this level, the swimmer should be ready to join a swim team.
