design management Design management creates the environment for creative approaches to the difficult and mundane alike, fosters a shared holistic vision that can be understood and manipulated by enterprise development teams, and drives the creation of actionable objectives that ensure that ideas become reality. Design thinking, a concept integral to design management, begins with a holistic examination of the system to gain understanding before converging to a more narrow focus. It is made successful by knowing the driving forces, organizational objectives and the motivating factors behind decision-making. Design management tools and processes—divergent, convergent and lateral thinking, mind mapping, affinitizing and judgment-free brainstorming—seek to foster new perceptions and continuous renewal of the points of view of industry, partners, customers, and community.

My design process is comprised of 4 stages; research, analysis, synthesis and prototype. Research and synthesis are divergent stages

with extensive data collection, non-judgmental
Synthesis and broad Prototype brainstorming scope. Analysis and prototype are convergent stages, which seek to process the data and information and narrow the scope. Though the process seems linear, it is often quite non-linear and iterative in nature.
under the kitchen sink
project overview Under the Kitchen Sink Role: Project Leader Collaborators: Tania Barot :: Zarni Ko :: Rebecca Mahl Description: The goals for this project were to execute and manage a design project, and facilitate new design strategies as part of a diverse collaborative team. The team was presented with the question; “What is happening under your kitchen sink? The team executed the design process to explore and reframe this question, which resulted in the design of a new system for storage of cleaning supplies and a redefinition of the kitchen cabinet.

gender gap
project overview Gender Gap Role: Partner Collaborators: Rebecca Mahl Description: The goal of this project was the understand and visualize “what is” and then envision, “what could be.” The team chose to examine the topic of the growing gender gap in education and disparity in wages and promotion between men and women in business. Given current trends, the team crafted different future scenarios related to the gender gap in education and business, and created a board game to play out the scenarios and encourage discourse on the topic.

american legion contextual inquiry
project overview American Legion Contextual Inquiry Role: Partner, Content Designer Collaborators: Marshall Jamshidi :: Chen-yan Li :: Carey Robinson :: Laura Schoenthaler Goals: The goal of this project was to gain a holistic understanding of the American Legion, Post 135 (Savannah, GA.) This was done through exhaustive contextual research of the physical space, surrounding areas, national and local culture, current and potential members, activities and interactions related to the American Legion. Several methods of primary research were employed including observations, interviews, surveys and cultural probes. The analysis and synthesis of the collected data produced an opportunity map, suggested to the client as a foundation for increasing brand and community recognition, and recruitment of new members.

project overview Scenarios: Dalton, GA Role: Project Leader, Videographer Collaborators: Mitali Banjeer :: Kate Bordine :: Ted Cheecharon :: Tara Henderson :: Jennifer Jeng Yahayra Rosa :: Elizabeth Simak :: Hannah Walsh :: Alex Yi Goals: The goal of this project was to use scenario-planning tools to craft alternate futures for the city of Dalton, GA. Individuals, who partnered with members of the community, collected the majority of the research prior to the start of this project. The team analyzed the research and examined current global and local trends to craft three alternative scenarios for the city. Each scenario was comprised of social, economic, political and educational factors and the stories were told through various mediums.
