Discovery VR A New Way to See Your World
The Google Goodies All About those Forms! Google Forms is a powerful, full-featured program that allows you to create forms, surveys, polls, quizzes, and more. However even with all its options, there may still be some features missing from the Forms that you would like. If you would like to see all of the add-ons demonstrated check out the 1-hour recorded webinar and then record it for credit in the Personalized Learning form. Choice Eliminator 2 -Forms Add-on link Choice Eliminator will eliminate options from a multiplechoice, list, or checkbox type of question. Great for signing up for time slots or having students choose topics without doubling up. Form Values - Forms Add-on link Form Values allows you to store and use lists that you use regularly in forms. This could be a list of staff, students, timings, rooms, resources or anything you want. formLimiter - Forms Add-on link formLimiter automatically sets Google Forms to stop accepting responses after a maximum number of responses, at a specific date and time, or when a spreadsheet cell contains a specified value. Great for time-bound assignments, event registrations with limited seats, or other first-come, first-served sign-up scenarios.

Highlights from Practical Ed Tech Handbook - Download a Free Copy Last summer Richard Byrne published The Practical Ed Tech Handbook. Since its initial release more than 10,000 educators have downloaded it. If you haven't downloaded it, you can do so here. In the free document he outlines seven categories of ed tech tools and shares his favorite tools in each category and they are: communication with students and parents, web search strategies, digital citizenship, video creation, audio recording and publishing, backchannels & informal assessment, and digital portfolios.
CheckItOut - Forms Add-on link Used for checking in and out items, this add-on will create a question set or multiple sets. One question is for items that are IN and another for items that are OUT. Questions can be Multiple-Choice, List or Checkboxes. When someone fills out the form selected items will be moved between the two questions. This allows a for a very easy check in/out form. Why is Media Literacy important? ...Media literacy is not media bashing; the goal is not to ridicule the media. Media are dominant forces in our culture and an important part of our teenagers’ lives. Media should be evaluated fairly, not denigrated. Media literacy is also no silver bullet or magic wand; it will not instantly solve all of our problems. But it is our best defense in resisting manipulation and keeping a perspective on the images and messages that are a part of media and youth culture. Excerpt taken from toosmarttostart.gov Get Involved - Join NAMLE (National Association for Media Literacy Education Join the movement to improve media literacy as an essential part of learning and integrating media literacy across the curriculum, . It is free to join and they provide resources, connections, and opportunities Join at www.namle.org. They are also Supporters of Media Literacy Week Oct 31st - Nov 4th. Follow them on Twitter @MediaLiteracyEd Fun with Media Literacy from Richard Byrne’s Blog Over the years Richard has written quite a bit Dan Russell's work and the concept of using images as the basis of web search challenge activities for students. Last month, Dr. Russell posted another fun search challenge that could be completed by middle school and high school students. That challenge is called Real or Fake? You can read the challenge set-up here and the solutions here. There are three parts to the Real or Fake challenge. In the first part students have to decide if a picture is real or fake. The second part of the challenge asks students to determine the validity of a Trip Advisor review. The third aspect of the challenge tasks students with determining the authenticity of quotes posted in social media memes. Applications for Education The thing that I like most about the Real or Fake challenge is that the emphasis is on critical thinking and not on technical tricks or deep knowledge or search engine operators. If they take time to evaluate the information in front of them and think critically about it, most middle school and high school students should be able to solve the three Real or Fake challenge activities.

More MakerED Pixar in a Box This is not the first time this has been mentioned in the newsletter but is worthy of another shoutout. Pixar in a Box is a collaboration between Pixar Animation Studios and Khan Academy and is a way to teach about the mechanics of animation through math. This is an excellent digital learning experience for #parkwaymakes. They use interactive lessons to teach school concepts. See the overview on YouTube.
