More Notes... Destiny Information from Jim (Copy Categories, Access Levels, & Self-Checkout) There have been some changes to the naming of Copy Categories. You may have noticed duplicate variant names in many of these showing up last year for example, one Copy Category named "Fiction", another named "fic". This had to do with a variation in the way two different groups at Follett handled our records. Having the two names was, understandably, causing some issues. Names were merged or renamed for all the categories to a single consistent standard. An Excel sheet which has the detailed name of each copy category can found in the email from Jim dated August 10th. New items from Follett are already using these Copy Category names. Please adhere to this naming convention in the future. Access levels changed within Destiny. What does this mean for you? If you ever talked to Jim and had him make any local access level changes (examples include students being able to make holds, defaulting to Destiny Quest, MyQuest changes, and several other things), you will probably need to talk to him again to have the changes restored. Self Checkout logins should be working correctly, if not or you need a self-circ login ask Jim. If you are going to use the reset barcode be sure to print a clear copy directly from the website http://legacyhelp.fsc. follett.com/AutoSearch/library-circulation-commands.pdf. Help Grow the Story of Reading in Parkway For our students to meet the Mission, Vision and Learning Principles of the Parkway School District we know that students must be curious, creative, and confident learners but we also know that they must have strong literacy skills both in and out of school. They must read not only for academic reasons but also for pleasure and they must have choice in their reading to pursue their personal interests. #ParkwayReads is designed to help celebrate and build a social culture around the love of reading and is meant to be a way for all members of the Parkway community (students, educators, parents, etc.) to share what you're reading regardless of the medium (traditional books, video, websites, etc.), the connections that you are making with those texts or even where you are doing your reading. Make recommendations online using the #ParkwayReads hashtag and celebrate reading in parkway. Use the hashtag #ParkwayReads to highlight the reading lives of the Parkway community. Post to Twitter, Facebook and Instagram with #ParkwayReads and #WhereIRead with pictures of the places that you do your reading. Whether it's at the pool, on vacation, on a plane, waiting for a practice to finish, in the backseat on a road trip or even just at home on the couch, help celebrate reading in the Parkway community with #ParkwayReads

Welcome Back! In the weekly search for school library news, the decision was made to discuss the library as a supportive hub for the school. As I visit, collaborate, and plan with man of you, there is definitely a change in the school library landscape and your role as communicator, collaborator, coach, and teacher. As you know the school library is more relevant today than ever before... if they are evolving to meet the needs of digital age learners. I love this quote from the Mediamorphosis, "The library, as we once knew it, may no longer be relevant. School librarians, as we once knew them, may no longer be relevant. And, yet, this is undoubtedly the most exciting time in history to be a librarian. For the first time in history we are moving from a time of information scarcity to one of information abundance." As we start to get our daily routines in place and the school year is still new and exciting there are some things the library can do to create that hub of the school feel: 1. Communicate regularly through newsletter, email, or face-to-face 2. Find time to collaborate 3. Make an effort to involve and try new library-related activities 4. Support the love of reading initiative #parkwayreads 5. Provide resources that support student and teacher needs
