Nancy’s Notes & Other Reminders
In last week’s edition of Educational Technology and Mobile Learning two excellent web tools (Pixel Press & Scratch) were shared that can be used with students to create educational video games. These tools are very simple to use and do not require any software download. You also don't need any coding skills to operate them.

4th Grade Assessment Window With the Growth Assessments the idea is to have a pre and post assessment or two points of data over time. That being said feel free to do the post assessment any time from now until April 1st. Remember, do your best to administer the test to all of the same kids that you did before. If you miss a few, that's perfectly fine. If there are kids who have moved in, have them go ahead and take it. Just try to get as many of the same kids as you possibly can. The biggest thing to remember is that in order to show growth, students need to be diligent in inputting their student numbers. This is how we match their previous score with this current score. For elementary, here is the link to the Google Form with your assessment http://tinyurl.com/4thgrowth.

MSPCL Documentation Just a friendly reminder... If possible, when working in your MSPLC groups continue to use the same Google Doc agenda all year. Just adding pages each month in the originally shared Doc will ensure that it is already shared with Nancy.

EducationPlus hosted its annual Midwest Education Technology Community (METC) Conference on February 8-10, 2016 at the St. Charles Convention Center in St. Charles. Known as this region’s premier education-technology event, METC gathers over 2,000 leaders and educators from the Midwest and beyond including superintendents, principals, K-12 teachers, administrators, support staff and others. METC features regional and national experts who introduce participants to the latest trends and best practices in the area of education technology. In addition, attendees have the opportunity to see examples of student-developed work, network and learn from colleagues, attend hands-on workshops and discover new and innovative ways to approach teaching and learning through technology use in the classroom. It is estimated that over 400,000 students are impacted by this program each year, as teachers across all major disciplines return to classrooms and integrate new practices in education technology to deepen student learning.

Librarians should be directors of innovation. If you wait til you master the technology before you use it with students, it will become obsolete. It's not about fixed vs. flex. It's about using what you have. Make the library so exciting that teachers can't resist staying. Librarians should be a safety net for teachers to try new things. Personalized Book Shopping based on a reader personality survey. Blogging isn't about what you have to say. Blogging is about reflection. What's obvious to me may be amazing to someone else. Post in the hallway - school sees it. Post it online - world sees it. It doesn't have to be a chore to get kids to blog. They are already writing for you.
