4th Grade Assessment Window With the Growth Assessments the idea is to have a pre and post assessment or two points of data over time. That being said feel free to do the post assessment any time from now until April 1st. Remember, do your best to administer the test to all of the same kids that you did before. If you miss a few, that's perfectly fine. If there are kids who have moved in, have them go ahead and take it. Just try to get as many of the same kids as you possibly can. The biggest thing to remember is that in order to show growth, students need to be diligent in inputting their student numbers. This is how we match their previous score with this current score. For elementary, here is the link to the Google Form with your assessment http://tinyurl.com/4thgrowth. Tablet Stand Distribution Thee distribution of the modified tablet stands is in full swing. Kim will be stopping by with the stands as she makes the rounds to buildings. Once the stands do come you will need to put in a work order to have it mounted (near a power source) so that it is accessible for students to use as a catalog search. The Samsung Tablet sheet (http: //tinyurl.com/librarytab4) has been updated to reflect installation instructions. If you are in need of your stand as soon as possible then send me an email and I will be by sooner. See you soon.
Getting Ready for METC METC will be here before we know it and preparing for the event can help make it a great experience. To get ready for the conference think about a few of these suggestions: ○ Get organized before you go - know what you want to see and hear ○ Make connections before, during, and after the conference - networking at a local event is extremely valuable ○ Set your goals - think about what it is that you hope to gain from the conference for your library 1 to 3 years down the road ○ Know where you are going to curate your newly acquired content ○ Divide and conquer among the Parkway people attending ○ Plan a trip to the Expo hall ○ Follow along online - follow the #METC2016 hashtag

Hopefully you are able to use the SLCL card with your students. Last week at the White House Parkway was recognized at the ConnectED Library Challenge for our partnership with SLCL. The ideas is to have a card for every student so that they receive: ● Support through programming that develops language, reading, and critical thinking ● Digital resources, such as eBooks and online collections of traditional media ● Broadband connectivity and wireless access within library facilities In other exciting news, a press release was posted on January 15th at KSDK about our participation in the initiative. Read the story here. According to Eric Button, Assistant Director Branch Services at SLCL, usage statics are up due to the recent delivery of library cards but they are hoping to see a lot more use in the areas of: checking out physical materials, accessing library databases, and checking out e-books and e-media. If you are looking for strategies or suggestions on how to incorporate the use of these SLCL library cards in your lessons take a peek at ilovelibraries.com for 60 Ways to Use Your Library Card (from 2013 but still relevant), or maybe create a 30 day challenge for students from Carnegie Library of

ChromCamp - https://goo.gl/9z88Jw If you were unable to attend #ChromeCamp last Saturday, about 100 educators from across the region came together to share and learn together in an EdCamp format. It was a great event and, even if you couldn't be there, if you'd like to see what everyone was talking about, you can access the shared documents in the link above. The notes are hyperlinked to each session...so pick and click on session. Remember that the notes are only as good as the people who took them and they were in the midst of a conversation at the time, but there are definitely nuggets of brilliance sprinkled throughout. Don't forget, EdCampSTL is coming in just a few weeks and sign ups are available now at http://www.connectedlearningstl. org/edcamp/.

Libraries Transform
Libraries Transform is the American Library Association’s ne multi-year public awareness campaign. Its goal is to increas funding support for libraries and advance information policy issues in alignment with ALS advocacy goals. The objective include:
Making Makers: Educating Librarians About Makerspaces
●
In a recent article from infododay.com one university talks about their makerspace journey. in the article they offered recommendations and final thoughts for anyone interested in creating a makerspace curriculum or providing resources, which included: ● provide practical examples of projects that can be used with classrooms ● never underestimate the power of demonstration or hands-on activity to demonstrate your point about makerspaces ● providing resources that are free or require little investment until you know what will work or not ● attend networking opportunities such as makerfaires, conferences, local and regional makerspaces ● start small - the definition of a makerspace can vary from an arts and crafts table to an entire dedicated room
● ●
Awareness - increase awareness of and support for transforming library Perception - shift perception of library from obsolete nice to have to essential Engagement - energize library professionals and bu external advocates to influence decision makers
Even more than that is the main idea. The idea that libraries today are less about what they have for people and more ab what they do for and with people.
In addition to our @your Library work, one of the componen the Libraries Transform campaign provides provocative bran that catches attention and surprises audiences. In addition t additional branding efforts they also have launched a nation social media campaign with the #librariestransform hashtag.
As part of the campaign they have a great toolkit that include the top ten ways to engage in initiative and a challenge. The challenge is to encourage your patrons to create their own “because” statements (like the picture above), and to share on social media. See more ideas at http://www.ilovelibraries org/librariestransform/toolkit/
