What is Google Expeditions? Expeditions is a VR (Virtual Reality) platform built for the classroom with more than 200 engaging journeys or field trips. It's an immersive technology giving students entirely new experiences. The idea is that teachers are the docents and use a tablet to guide up to 50 students on a virtual tour using virtual reality viewers. Learn more about Expeditions at goo.gl/RfOp4Z. Virtual reality replicates an environment that simulates a physical presence in places in the real world or an imagined world, allowing the user to interact in that world. Virtual realities artificially create sensory experiences. Parkway has one set of 20 units to try out for a two week period. The kit is in such high demand that there are currently only two time slots available in April. If you are interested let me know as soon as possible
Google App-A-Day & Extensions Too We are excited to let everyone know about a new project that we have going on between now and Thanksgiving. As we get more Chromebooks in the district, we've had many requests for how to get more functionality out of Chrome and suggestions for ways to do some of the things we've traditionally done on a laptop. As you probably know, on a Chromebook, if it's not on the web, you can't do it. However, there are tons of ways that we can do similar (if not identical) tasks using the Chrome browser. So, for the next few weeks, every day you will find a new Chrome app or extension highlighted on this site. Take what makes sense for you or that you need and leave the rest. You will always be able to go back and find other things when you're ready. Look for daily posts on the Google+ PIN network too. Access the library catalog from anywhere!

MindMup is one of my favorite online mind mapping tools. MindMup works in your browser and it can be integrated into your Google Drive account where you can then collaborate with other users. Creating mind maps is one of my favorite ways to organize ideas and information. I've often had my students create mind maps as an exercise in making visual connections between important concepts, events, and people in a unit of study. The new multiple roots option in MindMup could make a good tool for having students illustrate the connections between ideas originating from different places.www.freetech4teachers.c om Most Popular September Google Posts from Richard Byrne ● How to Create a Check-in/ Check-out System In Google Forms ● My Go-to Google Tools for Social Studies Classrooms ● Flubaroo Compared to the New Google Forms Auto-grading Feature ● 7 Good Tools for Creating Timelines ● How to Create Comic Strips in Google Slides ● How to Insert Columns Into Google Docs
