Final newsle er! This is the final edi on of Know & Go for this school year. It has been my pleasure to be able to communicate resources, library news, ideas, and future plans with you. Recently, the Board of Educa on received an update on all the libraries in the district. For that presenta on I prepared a montage of where the Fern Ridge library started and where it finished this year. Library Spaces!

Thinking about u lizing space for next year and ordered some new magazine holders that display the content beau fully and organize earlier issues. This will be part of the newsstand nook area. The magazine storage solu on takes the periodicals out of hiding and puts them where students can be er access them.

Work on Fern’s library space con nues. Back ligh ng has been added to the middle level book shelves with hopes to ďŹ nish the bo om shelves.

The SMART Board is now fully func on.

One wall will be devoted to contempla on and collabora on by covering it en rely with dry erase boards. Two boards are up with two more to go. Mounted between those boards will be a media literacy screen.


Highlighted & Underlined Technology, Research, and Learning Resources 50 things you can do with Google This is fun, when you go to the site find a card your like and flip it over to learn more. It’s and interac ve site where you can share favorites with your friends or suggest ps to add. The site regularly rotates the cards so it can be used over and over again. You can either sign in with your Google account or as a guest. Go to Google Tips. The 2014 List of AASL’s Best Websites for Teaching and Learning will be announced in June, but if you are looking for great sites now and don’t already use Great Websites for Kids, try h p://gws.ala.org/. There you will find sites like Amazing Kids Magazine. This web-based non-profit organiza on offers enrichment for kids and teens by showcasing their crea ve work. h p://mag.amazing-kids.org/

MIT BLOSSOMS Video Library (Blended Learning Open Source Science or Math Studies) The free video lessons are for high school math and science and focus on enhancing engagement through problem solving and cri cal thinking. There are approximately 100 math and science video lesson in the library created by a global consor um of educators. They are meant to supplement standard curriculum. h p://blossoms.mit.edu/videos NASA Physics & Engineering Collec/on This collec on of classroom presenta ons are designed to bring real world applica ons to the high school classroom. The site also contains a free webinar to prepare the teacher with ps and resources. The topics in the collec on include: engineering design, forces and interac ons, structure and proper es of ma er, waves and electromagne c radia on, and energy. Sponsored by NASA & PBS Tony Wagner—Seven Survival Skills (as defined by business leaders in their own words) If you have never hear Tony speak he is definitely worth listening to...he speaks of change leadership and transforming educa on for the 21st century. Student Opportunities There are some great camps being offered by Parkway this summer. Students have the opportunity to par cipate in Google Camp (Grades 3-12), Camp Inven on (Grades 1-6), and Cracking the Code (Grades 3-8).
