Nancy’s Nook & Other Reminders Follet Shelf Info All Follett Shelves have been set up. If you have never purchased ebooks/audio books (Catalyst), and think you do not have a Follett Shelf, you do! You may access your Follett Shelf through Destiny/Destiny Quest using your Destiny admin login. Look for the Follett Shelf tab. There is no longer a need to have a separate login for Follett Shelf only. Shortly, the Follett Shelf link off of school library web sites, since there is a link on Destiny. Students can now login and check out eBooks/audio books using their Novell user names/passwords. They can also check out, access their eBooks/audio books through the Brytewave mobile app, available through Google Play or iPhone App Store. I have attached instructions on how use Brytewave in the email. You will need your school’s Follet Shelf URL to do the initial set up of Brytewave. All shelves policies/permissions are the same: · Faculty can check is 5 books · Students checkout is 1 book · Loan periods are 14 days. · Access levels are allowing checkouts only, meaning a student or faculty member must login and check out the eBook. Library Services purchased 3 copies of all Missouri award books (Show Me's, Mark Twain's, Truman's and Gateway's). They have been pushed out to each school. Tumblebooks Premium The TumbleBook Library Premium Collection subscription has 1000 titles, including 300 TumbleBooks, 250 Chapter Books, 100 non-fiction books, 16 Graphic Novels, and much more! Plus, there are hundreds of Tumble Quizzes and other Teacher Resources. Ten Popular Ed Tech Tools That Were Updated the Summer Some of our favorite apps and services were updated and those tools include: Remind 101, Padlet, Todays Meet, Storyboard, Classtools.net, ThingLink, Socrative, Class Dojo, Kaizena, and Kahoot. Having multiple Google accounts is commonplace in today's world but managing those accounts can be tricky. Luckily Google Chrome can help you manage them by letting you login to multiple accounts and easily switch between accounts loaded in separate browser windows. Bill Bass, Instructional Technology, Information & Library Media Coordinator created a six minute video to help ease you into managing multiple Google accounts.
It’s not too early… The St. Louis County Library is currently running a library card campaign. This year SLCL has implemented an online registration module to streamline the process. They encourage schools to direct students and staff that do not already have a SLC Library card to http: //webpac.slcl. org/screens/schoolregistration.html to submit the online library card application. The staff will create library cards for those students and staff and deliver the library cards to your school to be distributed. Parental permission to obtain a library card is required for students under the age of 12. SLCL is asking schools to communicate with parents to obtain parental or guardian permission. The online application form includes an acknowledgement of parental permission. A printed form created by library staff is available to secure parental permission. Please email nclawson@slcl.org if you would like a supply of these forms to assist you in obtaining parental permission. Please include the quantity requested and the school name in your email. Destiny Hidden Titles in Follett Shelf 1. Log into Destiny or Destiny Quest as a librarian (admin) 2. Click on the Follett Shelf tab 3. Go to Follett Shelf admin (click Gear in upper right, click Setup) 4. Click Maintenance 5. Click the Hide Titles tab 6. Select the title(s) you wish to hide, click save The titles you choose to hide will still be on your shelf, but not visible to anyone. You will see it in the catalog. When open is clicked, a message stating "You do not have permission to read this title appears.

One option for earning Parkway credits is to participate in webinars. Remember that district credit is based on the number of clock hours that you participate. Credit is issued as follows: six clock hours will get you .5 credit and 12 clock hours will get you 1 credit.

Additional Learning Opportunities Introducing the ISTE-Verizon Mobile Learning The academy is a wonderful free professional learning opportunity for K-12 public, private and charter schools in the United States that will help school teams of teachers, tech coaches and administrators prepare for successfully integrating mobile technology into learning and teaching. Teams of educators will work together to make the pedagogical and cultural change necessary to leverage mobile technology to improve and accelerate student learning. This program is funded by the Verizon Foundation and is limited to United States' schools only, as per their commitment to the White House's Connected Program<http://m.whitehouse.gov/issues/education/k12/connected#resources>. ISTE is inviting school teams from across the continental United States to apply to participate in the first phase of the program. Mobile technology integration: · Learn the ins and outs of creating lessons and activities that use mobile learning. · Align with established best practices · Expand your knowledge of the latest mobile devices and education apps with an eye toward the very best and most appropriate uses for students. · Encourage creativity and safety · Learn how to guide your students to safely use mobile technology while also encouraging creativity. · Get guidance and mentorship · You're not in this alone. The VMLA will be offered online four times between September 2014 and December 2015. Participants who successfully complete the Verizon Mobile Learning Academy will receive continuing education units from Johns Hopkins University's Center for Technology in Education.
