ISTE Standards in Our Setting Supporting Technology Standards as Coaches Library Media Specialists support teachers and students with technology, so what does that really mean? We are coaching and as a coach we are continually learning, teaching, and leading in the digital age. We are thinking globally and transforming education in a collaborative environment. Technology coaching plays a key role in assisting with today’s learning. The NETS Standards along with the Essential Conditions (the necessary conditions to effectively leverage technology for learning) are designed to help teachers, administrators and coaches combine their unique strengths to provide students with the opportunity to learn effectively and live productively in an an increasingly global and digital world. The 14 Essential Conditions impact the way we work and support all the members of our school community. As a leader and coach we play a role in many of these conditions: ● Shared Vision - Proactive leadership in developing a shared vision for educational technology among all education stakeholders ● Empowered Leaders - Stakeholders at every level empowered to be leaders in effecting change ● Implementation Planning - A systematic plan aligned with a shared vision for school effectiveness and student learning ● Ongoing Professional Learning - related professional learning plans and opportunities with dedicated time to practice and share idea ● Curriculum Framework - Content standards and related digital curriculum resources that are aligned with and support digital age learning and work ● Student-Centered Learning - Planning, teaching, and assessment centered around the needs and abilities of students ● Assessment and Evaluation - Continuous assessment of teaching, learning, and leadership

Follett Destiny

Creating a Self Checkout Station With Destiny it is quick and easy to create a self checkout station. ● ● ● ● ●

Designate a self checkout workstation computer Call Jim and get a Circ Only Login Open Chrome, go to the Destiny and login with Circ Only ID (if it asks for you to save that password say, yes). Use a newer scanner that reads symbols. Encourage students to follow the directions posted near the station: ○ Type in or scan your student number ○ Check for your name and picture ○ Scan the books ○ Read the titles on the screen ○ Scan or push the reset button

Tips and Considerations ● Think about obtaining a number keypad ● Turn off auto-fill in the browser settings so students can't see others student ID numbers as they type ● After entering the student number be sure to click Enter ● Students should always check to make sure they see their name and picture (if applicable) ● Students should check that the book title shows up as checked out under their name once scanned ● Students must Reset so the account is not available to the next person wanting to checkout ● Get a Reset barcode for students to scan rather than having to click on the button http://legacyhelp.fsc.follett. com/AutoSearch/library-circulationcommands.pdf ● If students are unable to enter their ID number, it is more than likely because someone has accidentally pushed the number lock button and the keys are not working. ● Need help setting this up, email Kim for an appointment
