NEED Funds for MASL During the month of October, MASL is gathering 10-15 seconds-long video clips of members sharing what they like about the MASL Spring Conference. These clips will be used by the Spring Conference Committee to produce a cool new Spring Conference commercial that members can share with their administrators when requesting PD funds. Submit a 10-15 seconds-long video clip responding to one of several Spring Conference-related prompts and you will be entered into a drawing to win the full conference registration. http://goo. gl/2qSJD9
Book Reviews Due If you decided to participate in the METC Advisory Board Book Review, please have the 2-3 paragraph recommendation/review submitted to Bill no later than November 1st.

Technology Operations & Concepts
ISTE Standards in Our Setting We will wrap up looking at the ISTE Standards for students this week by taking a look at Technology Operations and Concepts. Hopefully over the past few weeks you were able to view all the standards: Creativity & Innovation, Communication & Collaboration, Research & Information Fluency, Critical Thinking, Problem Solving & Decision Making, and Digital Citizenship. The idea was to focus on the skills and expertise and less on the technology tools themselves. It was also geared toward providing resources at all grade levels.
The following technology concepts are an attempt to help you plan lessons that incorporate various systems. Exposure to these concepts will help students navigate virtual environments, select and use applications productively, and transfer their knowledge about technology systems. ● ● ●
Technology Operations & Concepts Students demonstrate a sound understanding of technology concepts, systems, and operations. A. Understand and use technology systems B. Select and use applications effectively and productively C. Troubleshoot systems and applications D. Transfer current knowledge Below are some examples of students (in various grades) who are literate with the Technology Operations & Concepts standard (note that an example may have more than one standard addressed): ● ● ● ● ●
Communicate about technology using developmentally appropriate and accurate terminology. Demonstrate the ability to navigate in virtual environments such as electronic books, simulation software, and web sites Apply previous knowledge of digital technology operations to analyze and solve current hardware and software problems. Integrate a variety of file types to create and illustrate a document or presentation. Configure and troubleshoot hardware, software, and network systems to optimize their use for learning and productivity.

Highlighted & Circled Technology, Research & Learning Resources
Curriki http://www.curriki.org/ is an online, free, open education learning resources service. The curricula and instruction materials are available to teachers, students, and parents. The majority of the resources fall under the creative commons license and the materials are peerreviewed for quality and adherence to standards. Another nice feature is that this website can be accessed within Destiny. Students and staff can select the Universal Search feature, put in their keyword search, and then click on the See All Websites button to access the Curriki resources. Just look for the logo.
Classtools.net Classtools.net is a site that offers teachers creative and organizational tools. Teachers can access the website to create quizzes, diagrams and educational games, which can then be hosted on their own site or blog. The Classtools.net site offers a list of templates to choose from, such as Arcade Game Generator, Random Name Picker, Fishbone, Lights Out, Hamburger and Jigsaw Diagram.
Would You Rather? Rrrather.com is a collection of user-submitted controversial or thought-provoking questions. These questions always have two possible answers, usually start with the words "Would you rather". Leave your vote, compare your answers, and discuss in the comments. The questions can be used as a conversation game, often played by students, teens, and young adults. The game goes like this: one by one, each player asks a question that starts with "Would you rather", sometimes with two horrible choices. Participants must choose and defend the best option, or at least the least worst of the two. The fun of the game is the discussion it sparks. The best questions usually have very divided answers.

Poll your High School Students with G+ Google has added a new option to Google+ in the form of polls. Google+ polls allow you to create a poll to share with the whole world, one of your circles, or members of one of your Google+ communities. You can add multiple pictures to your poll to add a visual component to your questions and answer choices. Your poll respondents can add comments to the poll just as they can with any other Google+ discussion. That option allows people to explain their votes on the poll. Taken from freetech4teachers.com

Destiny - FAQ Site
Camera Uploads
This week the Destiny highlight will be the FAQ site created by Jim. He has designed the Google site to answer your questions about Destiny Library Manager. He continuously adds commonly asked questions (with answers) from all our libraries. In addition to the questions he has two sections that contain information about Interlibrary loan and self-circulation. For ease of use you can also search the site in the upper right hand corner (in case you don’t want to read through the questions). In other Destiny news… Email Notices - Technology has finished updating some network settings. Email notices in Destiny should now be functional. Let Jim know if you experience any problems or need assistance with it. Middle School Fountas and Pinnell - It's been a while coming but F&P (along with the existing Lexile levels) should be available as a search modifier for the library catalog as of now. If you have any questions, please contact Jim. Brytewave Update from Follett Thank you for sharing with us about BryteWave K-12 Edition. We apologize for any challenges you've had accessing this app. Our goal is to provide you and your students with the best eBook and audiobook experience possible. We're analyzing and resolving the current technological issues, and making additional infrastructure
enhancements to ensure future stability.
