About KSNELASHVILI was born in 1987 in Sukhumi, a Georgian town remarkable for its appealing site between the Black Sea and the Caucasus, as well as the immense damage it uncounted during the Georgian-Abkhazian conflict of the early 1990s. Ivane obtained BA in Architecture at Georgian Technical University (2008) and finished his Master of Architecture in Vilnius Technical University (2010). His final work was awarded as “THE BEST PROJECT OF MASTERS IN LITHUANIA”. http://www.architectsofinvention.com Ksnelashvili joined AI (ARCHITECTS OF INVENTION) in 2010 and has been involved in many of AI’s most prosperous projects like Tbilisi Prosecutors office (2011), Lazika municipality (2011), Cubic Tower (2011), Mushtaidi Development (2012), Riviera slope (2012), Tbilisi Tower (2012), TBC Bank HQ (2013). This proposed design for Science Island creates a marked but porous division between a newly created urban environment and existing parklands. In keeping with the Science Centre’s emphasis on environmental matters, this design provides a natural barrier across the island to preserve the purity of the park. The orientation of the building allows for a fluency of movement via bridges – the existing pedestrian bridge and a new south-bank bridge – connecting the island to the old-town and expected future developments in South Kaunas. To minimise car traffic, we have kept the Science Centre as close to the Žalgiris Arena as possible. Since most visitors to Žalgiris Arena arrive in the evening from 20h, we propose that this existing car park be available to Science Centre visitors during its daytime opening hours. Deliveries will be restricted to the East side of the island. The building’s main principle is to divide the island into two parts – the landscape and the hardscape. The balancing building concept was conceived as a subtle intervention into the terrain, and acts as an abstract rectilinear sculptural object. It allows Science Centre curators to make use of both the paved, constructed side of the island and the natural side. The building acts to soften the bulky effect of the Arena structure, to integrate it more subtly into the island space. As a linear volume, the structure maximises possibilities for navigation and exhibition. As a feat of engineering, the balancing building captures the spirit of experiment, and reminds us of scientific apparatus.

INTERIOR QUALITY OF PUBLIC SPACES The public spaces of this building are singular open space volumes. The main entrance hall is arched with a spherical planetarium suspended overhead. The south hall is a double-height open space for large-scale exhibition. The café is positioned with a view onto the old-town, indeed the ends of the building are designed to be increasingly transparent to interact with the surrounding landscape. The varying quality of light, from its glass extremities through to the opaque central section of this steel-structured building provide a range of illumination for curatorial consideration. INTERIOR QUALITY OF GALLERIES The gallery spaces in this balancing building are designed for maximum flexibility. That is, in their simple rectilinear expanses, they can be manipulated for a wide variety of curatorial configuration. USABILITY – SPACE PLANNING AND LOGISTICS The balancing building is 250 metres long and is at the structure’s mid-point; the main entrance faces the plaza, and another entrance faces the park at Level 1. The central hall contains an information centre, cloakroom and shop. Circulation through the building is linear, allowing easy for navigation by visitors. There are four fire escape routes, located every 50 metres along the length of the building. There are dedicated staircase and lifts for staff, located to the side of the main entrance. The back of house functions are positioned in the hill, so deliveries are organised via the existing road behind the Arena.
STRUCTURE The proposed architectural form demands a dramatic structural response so as to produce long-span cantilevers which appear to float without any structural support. The box element of the form is utilised on the two longitudinal sides by incorporating mega trusses which start to describe the form as a long spanning bridge. The transverse section is framed as a moment frame U section allowing the deflection of the section under wide to the sides to be controlled. All the key structural forms would not be possible without the use of a high strength material and in this case structural steel fabricated into relevant box sections and beams sections is the best response. The transverse steel beams are formed with cellular openings to allowing coordination of MEP services. The building is approximately 250m long and hence requires bridge bearings at the first internal support points so as to allow the building to expand and contract from the fixed central point. This makes the building monolithic and without movement joints in structure or fabric. Given the fluvial nature of the river deposits a piled system is proposed for foundation support so as to control settlements. A bored cost in situ concrete piling system is preferred so as to core through any larger stone deposits in the ground.

Coral Holiday Apartments In Seychelles | 2016 | COLLABORATION WITH ARCHITECTS OF INVENTION | www.architectsofinvention.com | PROJECT - CORAL HOTEL STATUS - Concept Proposal LOCATION - Sailwin, Seychelles, Mahe Island PROGRAM - Hotel, Restaurant, Yachting club BUILDING AREA - 15000 m² BUDGET - $10 mil CREDITS - Davit Canava, Dominykas Daunys, Nikoloz Japaridze, Anton Khmelnitskiy, Ivane Ksnelashvili CONSULTANTS - HED, Engenuiti, WOW, DSA
This is a new type of a biomimetic architecture that seeks solutions for sustainability in nature, not by replicating natural forms, but by understanding the rules governing those forms – it follows a set of principles of combination of unit through a script translated into a form. It takes its beginning in the examination of a coral, its models, systems and processes of growth. The form is derived from the content of units in continuous movement resembling a sea creature – coral or the moving of the sea. It has no beginning and no end. It can be a continuous endless line forming a variety of curvy shapes. Each unit acts as an individual organism just as a coral – growing cell by cell forming large conglomerations. The project implies construction of an upscale lifestyle community comprised of a professionally serviced apartment complex, located on the reclaimed part of the main island of Seychelles – Sailwin. The project includes advanced infrastructure: spa-complex, several restaurants and a club-house with a pool and a private marina. Project site has a direct access to the beach.

VOROB’EVI HILLS (in 1935-1999 - the Lenin Hills) - one of the most beautiful places in Moscow. It is a high right bank of the Moscow River. Located opposite the Luzhniki Stadium, considered one of the “Seven Hills of Moscow.” Neskuchny garden is adjacent to the site from the east. It is 80 meters high from the Moscow river. The landscape of mountains forms a self-titled Vorob’evi Park, a part of which survived three ponds, as well as an array of broad-leaved forests. On Vorob’evi Hills offers the most extensive and picturesque panoramas of the capital. SKI JUMP In 1953 the ski Jump was erected on the hill, an illuminated ski slope with chairlift of 340 meters long. In early 2015, plans were announced to renovate and build a new ski jump and a cableway between the Vorob’evi hills and the stadium “Luzhniki”, which would combine sightseeing, transportation and sports functions.

“A BEAM OF LIGHT” The proposed ski jump type K-75 is designed for training and demonstration jumps. The idea behind the scheme is allegorical representation of a “Beam of Light” as a symbol of speed and flight. Simple subversive rectangular supporting structure “case” of the ski jump creates an image of rigor and accuracy of the calculation of the flight and the competition and bent stuffing - flexibility and a sense of freedom flight. The rectangular shape of its sculptural simplicity emphasizes the beauty of the landscape Vorob’evi Hills and the monumental complex of the university. It blends harmoniously into the environment without breaking but rather adding to its integrity. The supporting structure is fabricated from a metal truss which rests on a single point of contact with the hill that allows to build the upper part of the mast hopping without supports. Slope design allows 28 degrees to keep the structure on the same support and Macalloy rod systems which stretches from the foot of the ramp (see. Section) At the top mark of the ski jump is a preparatory platform for athletes and an observation deck with a bar for tourists. Inclined elevator hidden in the left side of the structure is used to transport athletes to the site, and the vertical lift, with capacity of 75 persons / hour on Kosygin Street, serves visitors to the observation deck.

Museum of the 20th Century | 2016 | COLLABORATION WITH ARCHITECTS OF INVENTION | www.architectsofinvention.com |
The LANDSCAPE BUILDING concept was conceived as a subtle exchange, it is a terrain itself. The building uses every aspect of its construction for navigation and art exhibition. The roof slopes are pedestrian walkways and they form a sculpture park. (The gradients of sculpture park give many different observation angles for users to apprehend the sculptural work on display.) The views from these roof gradients onto the surrounding buildings and parkland also give the idea that this building is a piece of landscape itself.
Project - wbw-m20 Ideas Competition Status - Comptetition Location - Matthäikirchplatz, 10785 Berlin, Germany. Program - Exhibition, Visitor Service, Scientific Research, Depots, Restoration, Delivery, Administration Car park - 10000 m²
The LANDSCAPE BUILDING expresses the notion of a seamless transition between urban spaces. Its white translucent appearance suggests a universal, timeless character with no obvious materiality. Its architectural elevation from the Potsdamer Str. perspective, has a rectangular shape. But as an observer circumnavigates the edifice, it changes its appearance and shape – in this way, it provides a particularly relativistic experience.
Credits - Simon Gatehouse, Nikoloz Japaridze, Giorgi Nishnianidze, Anton Khmelnitskiy, Ivane Ksnelashvili, Natasha Randall, Davit Tsanava, Dominykas Daunys
The LANDSCAPE BUILDING, poised between the structures that express qualities of the grid and the sculptural (the Nationalgalerie and the Opera), incorporates both of these qualities. The LANDSCAPE BUILDING completes the architectural dialogue at the site.

URBAN INTEGRATION The main hall of the LANDSCAPE BUILDING provides a direct connection between Scharounplatz and Sigismundstrasse through a central atrium. Likewise, visitors can ascend the ramp parallel and adjacent to Potsdamer Strasse and navigate the upper pathways of the museum, which trace a zig-zag shape, finally leading visitors down to the site of St. Matthaus Kirche.
part of the ramp). The ramp leads down to the main exhibition spaces of the museum, which are located on the subterranean level.
The LANDSCAPE BUILDING’s ramps are designed for barrier free wheelchair access with 6% slope inclination. The highest level of the building platform is 12.1m above ground level, which is 1.3m lower than the Nationalgalerie.
The roof pathways are open-air and the floor surfaces are composed of energygathering systems that draw energy from motion such as footfall. There are also systems in place to collect rainwater for use in the building’s plumbing networks.
The Opera building is still visible from the Nationalgalerie over the top of LANDSCAPE BUILDING – and indeed, the views from the rooftop pathways of LANDSCAPE BUILDING maintain constant reference to all adjacent historical buildings.
LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURAL INTEGRATION. The top surfaces of this building are a mix of hardscape and landscape as lowgrade greenery is incorporated into these spaces. The building easily blends into the adjacent platz-spaces where trees rise to meet these upper levels. Also, the series of sculptures that are on display along these roof pathways form their own landscape, they comprise a sculpture park.
SPACE CONCEPT. The LANDSCAPE BUILDING has a large, light-filled temporary exhibition hall running through its core (15m wide, 12m high and 100m long). This space can contain large-scale installations (on walls, on the ramp, above the submerged
The building plan of access routes has the shape of a cross so that visitors and staff may easily navigate through the building. Equally, such a shape provides enhanced flow in the case of fire or emergency.
Otherwise, the integration provided by the ramps rising from street level provide a seamless integration with the surrounding topography.

Nine Elms Bridge | 2015 | ARCHITECTS OF INVENTION | www.architectsofinvention.com |
THE CLIP The new link between historic Pimlico and the cutting-edge development at Nine Elms should express the city’s ambitions for those neighbourhoods and for London as a whole.
Project - Nine Elms Bridge Status - Competition shortlist Stage 1 Location - Nine Elms Lane - St Georges square, London. UK Program - Pedestrian & cycle bridge. Budget - £40 mil
On the south side, a gateway that will define a modern development; on the north side, a seamless entrance to classic Pimlico and Victoria beyond. Over the river, two asymmetrical arches gracefully soar over a continuous loop – a striking geometry that refers to London’s other bridges while reproducing none of them.
Lead Bridge Consultant - Hewson Consulting Landscape - Hyland Edgar Driver Lighting - Lumieres Studio Structure - Engenuiti Cost Consultant - Gardiner & Theobald Planning Consultant - Savills Fluvial and Hydraulics - Edenvale Young
Dedicated cycling lanes mean that The Clip will become a vital artery for commuters. The separate pedestrian paths and public realm frame new perspectives on the city making it a place to linger, meet friends and enjoy the view. The vertical arches and the horizontal loop frame vistas east and west towards the London Eye and the revitalised Battersea Power Station. Separation of the walkways results in a different viewing experience, through the loop at passing boats and out towards the city.

The design is sensitive both to the white stucco-fronted Regency architecture of Pimlico, and also to the sculptural and innovative ideas of the new Nine Elms. The cycle lanes are accessible through ramps, while there are segregated ramps and lifts for pedestrian and disabled users. The landing points touch lightly on either side forming a safe and seamless transition for all users. With its unobstructed views and spacious walkways The Clip will become an attraction for both Londoners and visitors. The Clip: Bringing Londoners Together

Origami Highline | 2015 | COLLABORATION WITH ARCHITECTS OF INVENTION, ARCHIPLAN | www.architectsofinvention.com |
CONCEPT – ORIGAMI HIGHLINE Entitled “Origami Highline,” the project draws inspiration from the ancient Japanese paper folding craft of origami and takes the form of a sculptural intervention in Balmaceda Park.
Project - Origami Highline Status - Competition Location - Santiago, Chile Program - Highline
The planting of 200 Sakura trees inspired the idea of completing the park with an origami-style structure. The interplay between the delicate and frizzy trees and the subtle but rigid Origami highline makes an appealing and graceful contrast. The abundance of cherry blossoms in the late spring is always highly appealing to parkusers and the highline will provide a pleasing experience of the blossoms from a higher perspective. As a raised leisure area and connection bridge, Origami highline opens Balmaceda park in vertical and diagonal directions, resonating with Tajamar Towers, and bringing the territory into one whole. By folding a conical red plane three times, the flat form becomes a functional object. There are three main features of the object:

The landscape in front of the towers will be designed by mixing hardscape and softscape, blending Sakura trees through organised pedestrian paths. Sakura trees will also be integrated into the car park area. Huelin street will be paved with modern, flat cobblestones. There will be no level difference between the pavement and footpath so the park and the landscape will have a seamless flow for pedestrians. The volumetric composition of the architectural ensemble is formed by sensitive touch to the existing topography of the landscape. New blocks are accommodated on the natural hill terraces. The structure of the ensemble is headed by monumental block of halls as big scale reference to the architecture of institutional neighbourhood an the structure is gradually reduced respecting the existence of the old small scale chapel. New LMTA building blocks are forming rhythmical multi-layered order of composition which is common to the old town character. The structure is tangential to the Olandu street resulting the open access to public and vital Lawn plaza, and creating the visual and noise traffic barrier for the LMTA environment The architecture of the ensemble is specific by its cloister structuring. The ensemble is designed as the new dominant Olandų st. icon by expressively opening the screen of representational Halls block lobby. The anatomy of the independent courts, enclosing volumes, and strong communicational bond- gallery reflects the democratic structure of LMTA as institution. The object which architecture is articulated by minimalist approach is focused into interaction with natural landscape. The topography organically and gradually grows into the building architecture- from the overall structure to the detail.
Historical urban structure is respected using this methods: Expressing the enclosed character of the location; recreating the Parako alley as the main and initial entrance into the territory and by shaping the architectural composition of the building to elaborate its end; preserving and renewing ė of inherited historical buildings; attributing to the typological tradition of Vilnius University ensemble; keeping the old town character by proportion the dominant volume, forming cloister structures and continuing the transitional galleries.
The cloister structure of inner unclears each of them forms the ensemble of autonomous functional blocks interconnected with the transitional gallery, which articulates the educational direction towards the stage. The climate for academicals community is created as an open innovative space for collaboration focused on interactive and digital tools and technologies extending the infrastructure of curriculum.

The functional spaces of the complex is organised as a rhythmic sequence: central court of Theory unit spreads into patios and their enclosing groups of cabinets. The transitional spaces and interiors are designed to have the close interaction with the exterior. In the central hall lobby the 24/7 zone is open for students 24 hours with reading room and cafeteria. Lobby of the concert and theater halls is programmed to have strong visual contact with the St. Peter and Paul’s church. The smaller halls are grouped at the end of Parako st. with a possibility to exteriorize their interiors by opening the façade elements. The spaces for students independent practicing and leisure are foreseen to be accommodated into the galleries and inner promenade. The gallery of inner transition is a complex system integrating the backstage infrastructure of the theater and concert hall into the educational process by widely exposing the scenography of the theater infrastructure, LMTA archives, informal vitality of campus life. The inherited and preserved buildings are proposed to be renewed by accommodating the museum of the castle park, students dormitory, open-air events pavilion, the music chamber in the chapel. The harmonious integration of the LMTA cloister into the city life is programmed by opening the Lawn plaza for public access. The plaza sequentially interlays into the new building complex by gradually reducing into private courts for LMTA community use.
Construction strategy of the building consist the acoustic strategy too. To achive this the specific materials and solutions are proposed to be realised. The envelope and supporting structure is designed of cross lamintaed timber which will perform the double role of interior and exterior finishing. In the halls the active acoustical system is porposed to be implemented as their technical and professional specifications conforms the requiremts of this type of building. To neutralize the traffic noise the double facade walls are designed as barrier from the Olandu str. The canilever of the library and halls slabs are designed of steel trusts. The Transitional galleries are made of metal profiles and glass constructions. As the minimal intervention into the landscape the reinfeorced concrete pole foundations of the building are proposed . Engineering network is implemented as autonous nuclears, for each block allowing to install according the phases of construction. For profesional overall building managment of fragmented units the flexible and integral Building managment system BMS is proposed to be implemented. The building is designed according the essential principles of sustainability, environment friendy construction methods, harmonious architectural interlay into landscape, low energy cost of exploitation.

Staines Upon Thames | 2015 | COLLABORATION WITH ARCHITECTS OF INVENTION | www.architectsofinvention.com |
The new residential development is positioned in Staines-upon-Thames at the edge of the river Thames on top of an existing two level car park adjacent to the historic Staines Bridge. The south-west elevation faces the embankment, the south-east is positioned on Bridge Street and the building faces Clarence Street to the East. There are adjacent buildings to the site – Strata House to the North, Edge Court residential building to the East, The Staines Bridge to the East and Swan Hotel to the West.
Project - BRIDGE STREET Status - Concept Proposal Location - Staines upon Thames, Spelthorne, Surrey, UK. Program - residential, retail, car park - 10000 m²
The structure represents the idea of a circular forum encapsulating the spirit of community and integration. It speaks to the surroundings by positively embodying the concept of connection: between city, river and the historic Staines Bridge. The emphasis on integration in this design means city and residential units are given to each other. Likewise, the building itself opens 360 degrees to the city – allowing for most of the flats to have a view of the river.

Best practice in upgrading townscapes must include developing and restoring the centre to attract visitors and create a community and leisure hub. With this in mind, we have opened the building to allow easy ingress and egress and to attract the local population to enjoy the building and the views it offers. The building is designed to interact positively with its setting and should form a focal point for new community activity.

Both entrances to the building for pedestrians and vehicles are on the north-west side. The car park for 126 vehicles is situated on two levels with access via two separate ramps for each level. The first level is half-sunken to decrease the height of the carp park and as a precaution against flooding. There is a private terrace for the residents on top of the car park. It combines a balanced combination of greenery and architectural features – most prominently, a water feature. There is a wide staircase from this terrace leading down to the embankment (reverse access is protected) offering an integral public recreational seating area. The first floor flats have individual fenced gardens. The façade is based on a regular unified module which forms balconies above the units below. Each unit corresponds to the internal organisation of flats whether they are one-, two- or three-bedroom flats.
Ground floor level
The resulting building is very well situated in the surroundings opening wide views towards the river and the city. It offers a dynamic presence, offering a volume and facade which are constantly changing. The building forms two different qualities of public space – the recreational and the urban. The building shape is an ideal circle and therefore lends itself to a uniformity, using segments - which is very simple and yet offers the complexity needed for that specific urban situation. The access and views are placed in order to maximize interactivity with the surrounding city. The building is designed using CLT and Glue-lam beams, which is low maintenance and long lasting, and will have a low environmental impact, due to the minimal use of natural resources and the passive means of comfort conditioning. Accessibility of the building allows daylight and ventilation to permeate through the building, which was designed specifically for low environmental impact. Internally, comfort conditions are passively controlled using natural cross ventilation, exposed thermal mass, and a building envelope made out of glass. The building also incorporates recycled materials including a wooden block courtyard floor utilising timber from reclaimed city power poles; concrete and pavers that utilise a high percentage of recycled material and fly ash for cement and aggregate replacement; LED lighting is used extensively in the building.

The building is seven stories high with descending terraces at the front, which offer views towards the river from the internally situated apartments. While the building is foremost designated as residential, part of the ground floor is occupied with space for retail. The building’s round shape creates public spaces on the ground floor – opening to the north–east between the Strata House and the new development and also from the south-east corner on the embankment by the bridge.

The community centre and library in Hloubetin is positioned at the edge of the historic gardens of a castle and St. Georges church. The castle is surrounded by a containing wall and there is a gap in the wall which coincides with the plot of the community centre. This structure represents the idea of the GATE, encapsulating the spirit of community and integration. It speaks to the ‘within and without’ nature of the historic wall by positively embodying the concept of connection: between society, culture and garden. The emphasis on permeability in this design means street and garden are given to each other. Likewise, the building itself opens in various ways onto the garden – allowing for a variety of architectural formulations for public events. Historically, the church and the castle formed the centre of Hloubetin. A wise approach to upgrading the townscape must include developing and restoring the centre to attract visitors and create a community hub. By re-emphasising the historical centre – indeed the whole area could be pedestrianized – this creates a platform, both literally and metaphorically where a market place, restaurants, cafes, an organised car park, local shops can be properly sited. This proposed pedestrianized zone places Hloubetin exactly within the European tradition of the central square.

The internal lines of the structure speak to the wall itself, texturally suggesting extrapolation of the historic wall. The walls act like objects themselves in their functions as bookshelves, stairs, coffee bar, etc. They are configured as displaced parts of the ‘castle wall’ creating divisions in the programme – a multifunction hall & community hall; a library; a and a public cafeteria. Each part of the programme is interconnected through ramps and stairs. The dividing volumes are designed as modular timber structures – as ‘walls’ which contain various service components such as a book depository & drop off point; a bar; a cloak room; stairs; ramps; picture display; internet access screens; and chair storage. The basement level is dedicated to library depository, technical rooms, kitchen, public toilets and staff changing rooms, with two exit staircases. The 1st level is dedicated to quiet reading rooms, libraries, offices and a communication bridge. The walls and ground floor levels are adjusted to the landscape levels allowing seamless flow of public from the street to the garden. Glass doors surrounding the building on the ground level open to the garden and to the street allowing free flow of public in and out. The resulting interior is clean-lined, light-filled and neutral, and will form a simple but functional backdrop to the colour provided by books and day to day activities of the community members. 150108_Sample board.pdf 1 08/02/2015 23:32:39

The structural elements of the object-walls, the facades and the roof are made out of Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) grid 60x60x30cm. The basement slab is laid from reinforced concrete, the walls are made of foundation blocks. The ground floor slab is made of deck boards upon glue-lam beams. The object-walls are composed with the technique of modular blocking used for shelving. The surfaces in between the shelves, vertically and horizontally, are filled with 25mm four layer polycarbonate colour sheets. Polycarbonate sheets provide good acoustic insulation and thermal control, which is useful when using the building in separate parts. The faรงade ground level is glazed, and first level and the roof are covered in ETFE.

The concept of this tower suggests the volcano and optical phenomena such as the halo and the sun pillar. The ideas originate with the early modernists such as Rodchenko, Tatlin, Yakov Chernikhov and Malevich. Chile has an enormous amount of active volcanoes and this tower evokes that seismic dynamism with its smoke-plume vertical extension that seems to twist and rise. Likewise, the light emitted at night by the viewing platform is miniscent of the wide glow from an active eruption. The evocation here is more about spreading than upward movement, such as a volcano does as it emits its fiery contents. The relationship of the tower to the statue of Saint Mary is important also in that the horizontal emphasis does not represent a dominating presence but rather a shared mountainous space. The mountain’s gentle slopes are resonant with the viewing platform’s disposition that erases a hierarchy along the skyline to Saint Mary. The viewing platform also suggests an optical halo – which seems to float in the sky, suspended only by cables. At night, the halo-like shape hovers above the mountain peak with only a series of red lights shining above it.

This tower, with its strong and simple design is unlike any other tower in the world (see our scale comparison page for images of towers that correspond to it). This presents a potential for iconicity in a global metropolis such as Santiago. The design also emphasises the structural ingenuity required for such a structure – and which is very important in a seismic zone 9. Furthermore, the displacements of form and dynamism of the design make this tower very suitable for one of the toughest urban seismic territories on earth. The form also suggests diversity and unity at the same time. The shifting shapes along the vertical axis create a sort of tension, akin to Chile’s own cultural tension between its Incan and Mapuche cultural roots and later European connections. But the circle of the viewing platform is a uniting form too, cancelling the connotations of conquest and domination that vertical towers can suggest. The vertical projection demonstrates tension and dynamism and the lower halo-form intimates inclusivity and circumspection. While a halo suggests sanctity in religion, it is essentially dualistic, also heavily represented in optical sciences. It generally refers to the phenomenon of light circular dispersal which of course refers us directly to the function of the structure as a center of signal emission. The circular form also echoes Chile’s beloved rodeo and such a prominent ring-shape on the city’s skyline may suggest the Olympic logo, commending Santiago as a future host city for the sporting event.

The proposed structural form pushes the boundaries of structural engineering by creating a hybrid reinforced concrete/steel tube with an array of steel and Kevlar guys to brace the slender tower.

Selected projects by Ivane Ksnelashvili
The tower is organised as a vertical displacement of the programme emphasising its horizontality rather than verticality. Its homogenous materiality refers to its sculptural nature rather than simply suggesting its functional form - it combines the motivations of both as a landmark form and a functional communication tower. Each programme is easily recognised by its shifted mass, allowing recognition of each point of utility. The significance of its form is dominated by a large 80-meter diameter ring hovering above the mountain peak. At night, the illuminated ring acts as a halo around the mountain peak, mitigating its functional significance with a subtle presence in the night-time panorama.

The proposed concept is an example of so-called ‘quantum’ architecture, since the roof and the wall comprise single form, where the natural and the technological complement each other. Such an approach fits well into the latest trends of modern architecture, and puts the Russian Pavilion on an equal footing among other national pavilions, combining depth of analysis and contemporary design.

Office building with underground car park is located in Central District. The site is located in a courtyard tightly enclosed by residential buildings on three sides. The building is designed as a seven-story office block, comprising of three volumes wrapped loosely in a glass skin. The internal volumes are parallelograms and glazed, while the outer glass-skin of the building only approximates their shape, providing voids between the volumes and the outer-faรงade. These voids act as buffer-space, and are used for panoramic lifts and an atrium. The concept behind this project is derived from the classic orangery where a glass skin acts as dynamic sculptural form containing the objects (trees) that define its function.

The concept for the National Center of Contemporary Arts is derived by choosing a “zero form”, a geometric blank screen which is shaped as a monumental black square. The aim is a rediscovering of a pure art form which is cleaned of accumulated things. A building for itself, a meta building. A simple clear shape which is full of content inside. It is not expressing, it is containing. The surrounding is interpreted as the urban tissue’s amphitheater which serves to focus one’s gaze towards the building’s substance, a concentrated purity, towards the screen as well as towards calmness itself. The building’s lack of active self-expression becomes a physical manifestation. This clear blank wall floats above the incoherent urban context and rises above banality and momentary trends. It has the sense of a desert filled with spirit. Again, it is not an empty black square – it’s a “full void”.
54
Associations and metaphors are joined together for conversation in this building. It represents a data storage drive, a memory containing device to house new Russian modern art. The inside of the building is a three-dimensional field in which all kinds of matter exists. The building is constructed from a thin rectangular volume serving to connect (both physically and visually) several additional volumes adjoined to it. These volumes function as exhibition spaces, auditoriums, offices, recreational areas etc. On the inside, the “zero form building is actually full of functional objects floating in space.
Selected projects by Ivane Ksnelashvili
The connecting volume is filled with mutually open elements: staircases, elevators and escalators by which one can reach the adjoined volumes where the main functions of the art center are located. A new concept of exploring and experiencing art is introduced through movement. The programmatic spine is organized vertically and visitors’ movement through the building happens in a continuous loop that offers various ways to engage with the art or to participate in other activities. In the connecting volume, the spaces which are unoccupied by the connecting elements serve as areas for rest, overlooking the functional volumes as well as panoramas of the city. This new dynamic cultural institution offers a new type of spatial organization, which could be used in many different ways, as a platform for experimentation.

The frame is an inarguably strong shape. It is multi-faceted and yet regular - just like the law. The glass encasement of this building represents the strength and clarity of legal thought. Within this glass cube is located a centrum, a locus of concrete thought, the central reasoning mechanism, which looks out at all angles through the crystallineprism of the legal medium. The building is extravert but also contains space for inner activity. It is a monument to both privacy and transparency at exactly the same time - which reflects the dignity of law and justice. The inner structure, the power centre of the building, is coated with mirror. The building therefore endlessly folds in upon itself - and yet it reflects all that is happening outside of it.
The semantic message here is that the centre is unknowable - purely because it is an endless reflection and ordering of the world around it. The world outside is ever-visible from inside the building, to the sides and above/below. The programme is distributed as staggered components on top of each other. The volumes are shifted on top of each other forming terraces and balconies. aroom, a mini-canteen and a veranda. There is a sky park situated on top of the building designed for conferences and celebration parties. The ground floor serves mainly as an access point, with security check-in, to the main distribution lobby on the 1st floor.

Structural Frame
The structural frame has been developed using detailed finite element analysis and this has allowed the structural steel members to be sized to their most economic sizes. The analysis has included seismic analysis and wind analysis. Several structural options were considered during the concept design process. The options presented were: • Reinforced Concrete In Situ beams and slabs. • Prestressed Post-Tensioned Concrete In Situ beams and slabs. • Structural Steel Frame

Prefabrication & Recyclability of Demolished Part of The Building Main Entrance
The prefabrication of all building parts or elements guarantees a highquality, especially concerning strength, surface qualities, colours and low geometrical tolerances. Prefabrication is also essential to achieve a high erection speed since the production of the parts can be ready-madein factory. With regards to environmental concerns, prefabrication is the basis for easy-to-recycle buildings since each single part will be designed by us either as a monomaterial piece (one material per part only)or if several materials need to be assembled together in order to form one element, these material components will be easy-to-separate and subsequently easy-to-recycle. Despite the fact that buildings typically stand for a relatively long time, the reduction of building waste is essential to reduce the production of waste in total. In Germany, for example, building waste is 70% of total waste production. Prefabricated elements which follow the outlines described above can be either reused (cradle-to-cradle)or they can be downcycled (a steel beam might become a car body or an aluminium facade panel might become a juice can). In order to allow for such perfect recycling, the identification of the building elements is essential. Following techniques developed by the German car industry, the prefab-elements will either show a bar code or have an embedded Radio Frequency Identification tag. A RFID-tag is a chip typically 2x2mm or 2x4mm in size and it contains all information about a building part suchas producer, material type, recycling regulation etc. RFID-tags do not contain batteries. It is in permanent sleep mode, only activated by aspecial reading unit which supplies the energy. Entrance/Exit Car Park

To achieve the most economic solution, many parts of the building were designed with the same structural elements as prefabricated units. This standardization ensures a fast, simple, and economic construction process. Foundation N solution to be confirmed pending site investgation. To guarantee the greatest possible flexibility on each of the floors, the floor slabs are planned as prefabricated elements of steel. The slabs are supported by access core, which consists of steel frame as well. Where large free spaces between the facade and core are needed, the slabs are strengthened use a grillage of trusses. The vertical loads of these areas are hung back by diagonal hangers which consist of prefabricated steel composite tension elements.

This work represents the idea of dynamics in sport with the abstract compositions of the staircase and the reception table. The first object you encounter is the introverted desk with its never-ending fissure, and then you meet the extroverted staircase - like the open path to Olympus, where the summit meets its own reflection, inferring that striving never ends, that there is no limit to human achievement. The building was built at the end of the XIX century for a private investor and it was later used as the residence of one of the leaders of the Communist party. Later it was renovated in the 1960’s for government purposes and remained untouched until this year. The structure was reinforced at the basement level which allowed us to make significant openings in the walls of the upper stories and place the staircase so it shifted from one space to another thus penetrating the structure.

The site is located adjacent to the old Batumi and serves as one of the access points between the harbour and the city. The surrounding area is mostly residential with some hotels and public recreational zones. The site is overlooking the harbour and opens views to 360 degrees. The concept behind this buliding is the notion of a vertical street, including open public spaces which act like gardens or courtyards along a lateral street. However, the vertical street has one advantage over the ground-level street, which is its vantage point. Each terrace overlooks a different part of the city and is programmed for different types of entertainment - a restaurant, a bar, a gym, a spa, a pool and a sky park on the roof. The buliding is divided into four distinct volumes. By simple shifts of these volumes we open up a certain space on top of each volume creating recreational platforms for the public as if reclaiming the site area. The area of the site is equal to the total gained roof terrace area.

The density and mixture of programme of the proposed building has emerged based on a number of considerations: • Primarily, the desire to bring different aspects of urban life to a residential area. In other words, to provide open elevated platforms for enjoying panoramic views of the city. • A focus has been given to introducing mixed-programme platforms on different levels of the building. There are no existing viewing platforms for public use in the old city area. The inclusion of elevated platforms in the building will define its uniqueness and importance in Leeds. • The programme mixture has been driven by a comprehensive feasibility study and market assessment in which various asset classes were analysed. The relative opportunities for each component of programme resulted in an optimal development mix to meet possible public needs. • 21 levels of building programme have been introduced to maximaze the use of land and budget.

The concept behind this building centres on the notion of an elevated landscape, an open public platform which acts like an open amphitheatre for viewing the performance on the stage. However, the elevated landscape has one advantage over a ground-level plan, which is that it preserves the original land surface. The whole platform overlooks the sea and maintains access to the whole programme below.

The building is essentially a horizontal platform which was lifted to liberate the space below and then tilted to expose views to the sea and create an quasiamphitheatrical shape. The area of the site is equal to the total gained roof terrace area. So the roof acts like a facade and a platform at the same time. But it is also an extension of the boulevard. The platform is linked to the boulevard by a broad set of stairs, which are designed be actively used by the public for sitting and enjoying the views.

The top level includes a cafe and a stage with audience seating for 700 people. The stage is 20m x 20m which can accommodate a different range of musical performance from a 40-piece classical orchestra to jazz bands and rock groups. This stage is accompanied by an open-air cafe, which has access from the ground floor with a lift. On the other side of the platform there is a lounge bar, which faces the lighthouse on one side and the other side overlooks the city square below. Underneath the platform is a 3D cinema for 100 people, an additional cafe and bar, various shops and a bicycle/rollerskate rental office. There are two different volumes that overhang the ground floor - and these will contain the cafes. The ground floor and the top deck are interconnected by a ramp, a spiral staircase in the middle of the building and two lifts for the disabled. The site is located in the centre of Tbilisi (Geo) on the (Northern) Left bank of the river Mt’kvari. The size of the plot is 23.600m2. The surrounding area morphology varies - there is Mushtaidi Gardens from one side and the bier brewery from the other adjacent to the site. The interaction of the programme and the stage of the proposed building emerged based on a number of considerations: Primarily, the desire to preserve the usage of the site as a place where large amount of people can use the site as a continuation of Mushtaidi park. Underneath the deck-platform would be used for hanging cafes and restaurants. A focus has been given to introducing a raised deck-platform, to liberate the land and connect directly to the garden. The deck-platform will be divided into residential and public areas. IMAX cinema is positioned in the middle of the development thus connecting all functions of the building becoming a centre of composition and the programme. The twin towers 160m tall represent - dynamics, solidity and distinguished purpose of the building. These towers will be the tallest towers in the city.

Introducing the deck-platform as the main interaction-point of the programme was derived from an analysis of public spaces, community life and local climate. The relative access and recreational opportunities for each component of the programme resulted in an optimal development focus to meet all possible public needs. All functions of the building have separate access points to the deck-platform making the deck-platform an open connection zone through the retail. The project relies on one level of building programme in order to maximise the use of land and budget. The building consists of a two underground levels of storages and parking which connects Kipiani str. and the embankment.

This emphasises the gravitational conditions of the platform which semantically tend towards being a substance floating over the ground, derived from the notion of a cloud or a light sense of a matter. This follows the architectural tradition of Metabolists Kisho Kurokawa, Arata Isozaki, Archigram, Yona Friedman and other great architects bringing ideas and forces of gravity into reality.

Office Building In Kazakhstan | 07. 2011 | COLLABORATION WITH A2SM ARCHITECTS | www.a2sm.lt | PROJECT - OFFICE BUILDING IN KAZAKHSTAN STATUS - Competition LOCATION - Momishuly Str, Astana - Kazakhstan PROGRAM - Restaurant, Offices, Shopping and business centre BUILDING AREA - 1327 M2 BUDGET - 8 Mil CREDITS - Aurimas Sasnauskas, Sla Malenko, Ivane Ksnelashvili, Arminas Sadzevicius, Gabrielius Šegždavičius
The building is located in the capital of Kazakhstan - Astana. It is in the central part of the city, corner site of two major streets. The building continues iconic building generation in Astana, while the city is very controversial, but the site is very important for it. Required programme of the building is luxurious shopping center and separated offices. It is three storeys building. Rotating required programme upside down changes the typical functional system and adds better conditions. More parking places, better inner lighting. Adaptation to extreme climate changes (-40 +40 C), Protection from rain and sun, creation new intimate public spaces and new perspective views. The building as a shopping center has already predesigned image because of the roof balancing between of stability and unstableness.

3 Monalisa | 05. 2016 | COLLABORATION WITH COPYPASTE | www.copypastecopypastecopypaste.com | PROJECT - 3 MONALISA STATUS - Installation LOCATION - VILNIUS, LITHUANIA AUTHORS - Ivane Ksnelashvili, Davit Tsanava, Nika Maisuradze, Tezi Gabunia, Mariam Nadareishvili, Oto Shengelia
Culturally famous well known icons meet us and repeat their appearance constantly in our daily routine. Art work ‘3 MONALISA’ is a fragment of these loop where we literally have a chance to see this repetition at one place, as a different and unique item. The object relocates his new identity and creates a new ego ready to be looped and repeated over and over.

The object of interest for the series represents humans perception, knowledge, expectation, which derives from the experience and observation. These processes are forming reasonable connection between objects and occurences. (‘behind the door, there is a space) Which means, any new appearance is sensed with past experience & separates us from the primary perception of universe. Series of Expectations is a distortion of ‘expexted & unexpected’ phenomenon. The twist causes alienation and erects new conception of space.

Handjobs | 04. 2016 | COLLABORATION WITH COPYPASTE ARTISTERIUM ‘WHAT’S ON YOUR MIND?’ | www.copypastecopypastecopypaste.com |
PICNIC is an installation, which represents two identical copies of a random situation like a Picnic. The installation carries two main codes: of copying and randomness, of industry and individual.
PROJECT - HANDJOBS STATUS - Installation LOCATION - LONDON, UK
It should be noted that case of PICNIC has important distinctive feature comparing to copypaste ‘s previous installation. Given the fact that, randomly created and elusive for copying composition is taken (The composition does not subordinate to molding or any other industrial production, a culture doesn’t have sort of interest towards it) and after that it is proceeded in computer tool (ctrl C, ctrl V)

An intriguing part of the product is that the cyber language appears in the human reality. The copying process of PICNIC is different from the copying triggered by Gutenberg (where the typing machine is considered as the first source of duplicate edition), where only industrial forms were eligible for massive edition.
