President’s Notes From Tim Hipenbecker ■ Spring 2014

Supporting the ministries of Lutheran High School North and Lutheran High School South

It’s New!

The LHSA Strategic Plan

We are grateful each day for the support of you, our parents and former parents, alumni, donors and friends of our Lutheran high schools and the Lutheran High School Association.

The LHSA Strategic Plan: 2012-2020 is a blueprint for the direction of our schools through 2020. Two words, RELATIONSHIPS and PREPARATION are key to our promise to nurture, challenge and prepare our students to be life-long learners, leaders and Christian servants.

In a effort to keep you informed on a more regular basis about the ministry at our schools, I’m initiating this quarterly President’s Notes publication with short stories and notes that will keep you in the loop and able to share the ministry with the greater St. Louis community. This publication will come to you via email and will also be posted on the LHSA website.

We have established three critical targets in this plan: 1. Our Lutheran High Schools are recognized as a first choice in the region. 2. The Lutheran High School Association will achieve financial viability and strength. 3. The Lutheran High School Association is the guiding force for Lutheran Christian education in the region, striving for a comprehensive educational system preschool through 12. Introducing our new LHSA staff members

Molly Maher, left, and Jayne Lauer

In support of our Strategic Plan, we are increasing and improving our marketing and communications, beginning with the addition of Jayne Lauer (LHSS ’77) as the Director of Marketing and Communications. Jayne served as the Director of Admissions and Community Relations at Lutheran South for over nine years before moving to a marketing position at Lutheran Church Extension Fund in October 2012. She returned to LHSA in December 2013.

Jayne will be working closely with school staffs to build and retain relationships through effective communications as well as sharing the ministry of our schools throughout the broader Christian community. She and her husband Rob are members at Peace Lutheran Church; they have three children, Christen Lauer Gorman, LHSS 2004, Courtney Lauer LHSS 2007, and Jonathan Lauer LHSS 2011. Jayne has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Missouri-Columbia. Molly Maher is our new Vice President of Finance, taking over for Alison Robbins who is retiring after 15 years of service to LHSA. Molly comes to us from Midwestern Transplants, an organization that works with families in difficult situations to provide organ donations. She brings 19 years of experience from Midwestern Transplants, most recently as their Finance Director. She started at LHSA on March 3. Molly’s love for the education system and her desire to try something new helped her make the decision to join the ministry of LHSA. Molly has two children: son Sam is a senior and daughter Sophie is a junior, both at Fort Zumwalt-East. Molly earned her bachelor’s degree in accounting from Emporia State University and her master’s degree from Missouri Baptist University.
