Summer is in the air and from all of us here at Details, we couldn’t be happier. We’ve been concocting some amazing material that not only will bring a new piece or two to your summer closet, but will also explore new and old ways to enjoy the summer months. Of course, nobody’s summer is the same, and neither is their fashion sense. But we’ve searched near and far, yes quite literally, for some fantastic new fabrics, styles, and trends. Plus, if wearing some crazy new shirt or new men’s high wasted shorts isn’t your thing- which in all honesty who would even want to see all that anyway- Details has you covered with some sports and

leisure to get you out of that pool and rocking your whole new dream summer scene. The game of the summer, baseball, has a huge part in this month’s issue. Since I was raised on baseball, I was so excited to hear all about players who I watched grow from boys straight off the farm system to players who inspire kids today to pursue their passion in baseball. Ok, so maybe I ranted just a bit about baseball, #sorrynotsorry. Details, being a men’s fashion magazine, also has some great articles about how to style yourself for everyday of the week to the newest bags that will kick your sum-

plans to take your honey or your whole family. We really hope that you enjoy this month’s issue of Details from cover to cover. The amount of gratitude I feel that there are people out there who want to buy our little baby every month warms my heart, pushes me to continue to work my hardest and push my staff to keep challenging themselves to create amazing content. -T.H. P.S. We hope you enjoy our “adult fun” article, and we promise that were not all a bunch of creepy Fifty Shades of Grey readers. Guys gotta have some fun too, right?

Atlanta, GA

Charleston, SC

Jacksonville, FL

Atlanta goes South of the Border, with Bartaco, a trendy yet laid back Mexican hot spot of sophisticated dishes such as duck and fried oyster taco’s with a killer list of creative cocktails, emphasizing true Spanish style classics, like the margarita, mojito and caipirinha. To give an idea of how seriously they take their drinks, there is an entire page of the menu devoted to an extensive list of just tequila’s from around the world. Not bad ehh? To top it all of, an openair surrounding terrace space makes for a great lounging area for you and your friends to relax and unwind, especially during those warm summer nights. Take a break from everday life and get away without going far. (969 Marietta St)

With a smaller city vibe, Bin 152, is the place for wine lovers. This down to earth and dynamic space, as it doubles as an art gallery and antiques market, knows great wine and what to pair with each bottle. Located in the heart of the French Quarter, it is conveniently walking distance from hotels, inns and bed and breakfasts; so no need to worry about getting a taxi home after a few too many glasses. Husband and wife Patrick and Fanny Panella, are the extremely knowledgable owners with a background in both wine and food. Equal to their overwhelmingly lengthy list of wines, is their offering of cheese and meat boards, of which you cannot find in just any grocery store, making this Charleston spot perfect for an afteroon of noshing the evening away. (152 King St)

Aardwolf Brewing Company proves that Jacksonville knows beer. In the stylishly industrial space, with exposed brick walls and no fuss black chalk boards hanging to announce the seasons latest brews and recommendations, these guys offer something to match everyones tastes. Whether you are a fan of a Belgian Pale Ale, American IPA, Russian Imperial Stout or Berliner Weisse the experienced staff of brewers and beer connoisseurs are eager to direct you towards a fitting flavor. As a part of their home brews, they also feature a collaboration with Intuition, a fellow brewing company in the area, which takes form as an Oaked IPA. Ranging from a 4.2% to a 10.4% ABV, there is variety in strengths and sourness for everyone who enters. (1461 Hendricks Ave)

The Deep Blues

The color indigo has been spreading from architects to designers. Mixing well with other colors, blue is a strong and reliable color. It creates a calm, harmonious feeling in a room. This growing movement of “en plein air” takes colors from nature instead of those already manipulated.

5 Design Trends To Not Feel

Blue About

Snug in a Rug

What can a rug do to change your life? Actually, it’s quite remarkable. Uplift your office, living room or bedroom with these painterly artisan rugs from Marc Phillips. These rugs are a piece of art within themselves. They are an easy way to bring excitement to your livingroom and/or bedroom. As if they were inspired by Monet guys will want these rugs to spice up their traditional white walled rooms.

Mixed Metals

Mixing coppers and golds with metals like silver is hot right now. The common idea of having every item in your room match is no more. Guys who are afraid to take risks should step out of their comfort zone and try the riskier more stylish option. A great example: Arteriors’s Nolan Pendant, a brass-finished iron light with a dark bronze band.

These Guys Are Shaping It Up

Geometric architecutre that exudes minimalism and clean lines is all the craze. Innovative attention to shapes and details as seen in Sebastian Scherer’s Isom tables for Neo/Craft. His works “exudes a sultry 1970s vibe that remind [him] of intimate clubs that serve really good Manhattans.”

Graphic Tiles

These tiles from Amethyst Artisan incorporate graphic design with interior design. The allure of the outdoors and colorful concrete tiles is moving through commercial to home spaces. Sam Allen, a Connecticut designer, views them as a sneaky image-booster. “These unusual ethnic tiles give the appearance that you are well-traveled,” he says.

THE GOOD NEWS Your inner child can now rejoice. Who didn’t love dinosaurs as a child? And on top of that, who didn’t love getting their pants scared off by rippling water glasses and a screaming T-Rex in the original Jurassic Park? Since its premier in 1993, Jurassic Park has grossed around $400 million to date. Sequels to the original Steven Spielberg/Michael Crichton include The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997) and Jurassic Park III (2001). The franchise has been begging for a 4th movie for over 10 years. You might be thinking that this movie is going to be the same as every other one, and that’s where you would be wrong. For the first time since Jurassic Park, Jurassic World is offering a completely original story line. Set at a time where Jurassic Park has been a functioning theme park for ten years, Jurassic World provides a commentary about the order of nature of the modern consumer and what the negative consequences of that boredom can be– as well as some interesting CG dinosaur work.

P I L F FLIP E D I S SIDE THE

Why We Love -and Hate- the new Jurassic World

39

THE BAD NEWS Is it really all that original? Remember when Marty McFly went to the future (the year 2015, to be exact) and the holofilm that was playing at the Holomax Theater was Jaws 19? Well it might be 2015, and we might not be that far along with that our story lines, but it certainly seems that we are heading in that direction. The filmmakers of our generation need to start focusing on coming up with new stories – completely new stories – instead of simply building upon and reimagining old stories – even if we love them. Let’s face it: Jurassic World is not being received as well as the producers thought it would be. To be honest, it’s fighting an uphill battle just to generate some kind of enthusiasm. Especially when all the trailers/extended trailers/extended movie clips released are about Chris Pratt being the leader of motorcycle Velociraptor gang. In addition to the lack of realism and believability this movie has henceforth displayed, Jurassic World has gotten some major criticism from director Joss Whedon, who called the movie “70’s era sexist”. Bryce Dallas Howard is a cunning, smart and educated woman who wants to play God and thinks she knows everything. Chris Pratt is down to earth and humble, and thinks that common sense is the only education he needs. Also, he’s only concerned about one thing. It’s hard to tell if Jurassic World is going to be the summer blockbuster we’re waiting for, or just another extended story line trying to stay alive. Decide for yourself on June 12th, when Jurassic World hits theaters.

From Carving Wood to Modeling, Sawyer Greenberg May be the Perfect Girl This 21 year old actress started from an early age, and is eager to showcase her multi-faceted talents to the world.

She is a senior about to graduate with a BFA in Performing Arts from SavannahCollege of Art & Design. You might have seen her in SCAD’s Three Musketeers or student films like Danny Dynamite or the 6chix Improv group, but this sarcastic and ambitious actress is ready for her big break. Sawyer first got into acting by attending Harand Theatre camp where both her mom and sister attended before her. After landing the role of the comic-relief the cowardly lion in the Theatres production of Wizard of Oz she fell in love with acting and making people laugh. Even as a child her imagination has “always been wild and constantly whirling”. Besides acting, Sawyer took up modeling. She “used to horseback ride and play volleyball”, and surprisngly in her spare time she also loves to “whittle and carve little wooden sculptures of [her] friends”. Without trying she has a refreshing air of confidence and to her “sexy has a “good amount to do with confidence [and] not cockiness”. Greenberg admits to her celebrity crush on

Chris Pratt, “He is killing the movie game. His timing is impeccable. I also have a soft spot for Andy Samberg, don’t ask me why because I have no idea. Maybe it’s the nose”. Her bad experience with dates leaves Greenberg single. She describes her most awkward date as she explains how he ordered for her, “I was pissed. How did he know I didn’t want the chicken and then ordered me steak. I could have been allergic to steak! It was a big old mess. That’s when I decided to not go on dates anymore and if I did I would just blurt out what I wanted to eat right when I sat down”. (Guys should be taking notes) If Greenberg had it her way she would be in “a kickass comedy television show” playing opposite “a comedic actress like Anna Faris, Kristen Wiig or Emma Stone. She likes comedy but she wouldn’t mind acting with Morgan Freeman who she “sometimes wishes would come over and have lunch” with her. This mulit-talented go getter is ready to break in front of your television screens soon, so be on the look out.

5 TOOL PLAYERS A GUIDE TO OUR GENERATION’S BEST BASEBALL PLAYERS

BY SHANDY FREY

Alex Rodriguez Stats

Position: Shortstop/Third Baseman Runs: 925 Hits: 1425 Home Runs: 315 RBI: 995 Batting Average: .299 Though A-Rod got an interesting rep in his early career for requesting lavish contracts and using steroids for a few years (this was back in 2002), he has gotten over some of his previous issues and is currently chasing the home run record. Rodriguez is a 14 time Allstar and recipient of 3 American League MVP Awards. He’s also won 10 Silver Slugger awards and 2 Golden Gloves, so Rodriguez is definitely a hitter to be on the lookout for.

David Ortiz Stats

Position: Designated Hitter/ First Baseman Runs: 1064 Hits: 1789 Home Runs: 412 RBI: 1307 Batting Average: 289 Born in the Dominican Republic, Ortiz aka “Big Papi” is a 9 time All Star and 3 time World Series champion. The leader in walk off home runs, Ortiz also got a grand slam in the 2013 World Series. He is the Red Sox Record Home Run hitter with 54 home runs in the 2006 season. But off the field, he’s a pretty cool guy too. Founder of the David Ortiz Children’s Fund, this charity allows Ortiz to allocate various funds to whatever organization he’s most interested in.

Mike Trout Stats

Position: Centerfielder Runs: 396 Hits: 602 Home Runs: 105 RBI: 324 Batting Average: 0.305

You might be looking at Mike Trout’s stats and thinking “This guy isn’t in the same league as the others” – but that’s because Trout is only 23 years old! He started playing in the major leagues when he was only 19 and he’s already a 3-time All Star.

Trout received his first All Star award in 2012, when he was only 20 years old, making him one of the youngest All Stars in history. He also received the AL Stolen Bases award for that year with a whopping 49 bases stolen.

Miguel Cabrera Stats

Position: First baseman/ Third baseman/ Leftfielder Runs: 1179 Hits: 2221 RBI: 1389 Batting Average: 0.321

In 2012, Miguel “Miggy” Cabrera made modern baseball history. He was the first person since 1967 to win the Triple Crown, with .330 batting average, 44 home runs and 139 RBI. A 9 time All Star and 2 time MVP, Cabrera is considered to be one of the better “pure” hitters in the league by combining a very high batting average, a high walk rate and a very low strikeout percentage.

Tim Lincecum Stats

Position: Pitcher Innings Pitched: 1597 Hits: 1392 Runs: 677 Home Runs: 130 Strikeouts: 1664 FIP: 3.32 The only pitcher to make our list, Tim Lincecum aka “The Freak is a pitcher with a lot of surprises. Despite the fact that he is built small, he has the amazing ability to pitch quite fast and powerfully. One of the youngest players to win the CY Young Award, Lincecum is also one of the only pitchers in history with 3 World Series rings, 2 CY Young awards and 2 no-hitters (the only other pitcher to do this was Sandy Koufax).

IT IS 11 A.M. AND I AM THIRD IN LINE AT EXIT STRATEGY ON EAST BAY STREET IN SAVANNAH GA. Grafton Kent, 33, and the Co-Founder, along with Lisa Smith, who has a background in pharmaceuticals, is behind the counter attending to a family of three as they pay while making a signature drink for the couple in front of me. I wait patiently for him to finish with his customers before I walk over to the side of the counter and introduce myself. He wipes his hands on a rag that is resting next to the espresso maker and shakes my hand firmly. This is a new space for you correct. How long have you been here? It is. This used to be a lawyers office with yellow walls and green carpeting with nothing but cubicles. It took us from last October to January to renovate, along with twelve stitches in the process, to be ready for our grand opening in February. I am actually trying to put together a mural of sorts for this wall here to show from Day 1 until today; the transformation. And this is your first exploration into retail as well? Yes. We started as a manufacturing company and although 78

the store is new, we have been making craft beer custards since 2012 at the Forsyth Park Farmers Market, which was great, but limiting. Every Saturday we would have a line of fifty people waiting. For those four hours it was non-stop. Apart from the Farmers Market were you anywhere else? Before we opened the store, we were a wholesale company. We partnered with Whole Foods so in exchange for carrying our custards and popsicles, we use their fruit to make our products. The addition of trying to use local and quality ingredients in something we have in common as well. You can also find our

pints at the Beer Growler and our push-pops at The Distillery and the Green Truck. So was is the difference between regular ice cream and custard? Well ice cream is king in the South and custards are more Northern. It is really in the way they are made. When making ice cream, everything is spun at a higher rate so that you force air into it and as a result it expands. So with 1 gallon you will really end up with 3. With custard, the speed of the spin is slower, so that no air gets in, that’s why it is a denser, creamier product. also due to the egg base, with a longer shelf life.

So it is a bit more complicated than pouring beer into ice cream? Yes- if you did that, it would destabalize the base and it would only last a day. It is quite a unique idea. How did it come about? My Co-Founder, Lisa Smith, has a pharmaceutical background and a love for craft beer, I retired from playing Pro Baseball and have always loved ice cream. So was the idea something you came up with together? Lisa and her sister Andrea were actually on a trip in Montana at a brewery sitting outside and literally across the street was an ice cream shop. And thats how the idea was born! I was also smart enough to recognize that when a woman is involved, she’s really the one in control, they secretly

have the power, all I did was say, “Yes Ma’am.” You are a smart man. Can you tell me the story behind the name, Exit Strategy? As well as your logo design? I am guessing it has something to do with leaving one field to explore another? Exactly. While I was playing baseball, during the off seasons I created a coffee line, and when I retired I wanted to explore that interest more. Lisa felt the same with her experience and background in pharmaceuticals. It is really all about encouraging people, no matter how small their dream, to go after it. And I’ve recieved emails from people saying that we inspired them to start their own small business, and I think, that’s really great. In a way, you are using your business as a platform almost?

Yeah, I guess you could say that. We change a lot of people’s minds about liking craft custards. For some reason people have this negative connotation with ice cream that has alcohol in it, without realising that it is in such a small amount, just to give flavor and not strength of the percentage of alcohol. That is interesting that you say that, because I have heard of infused alcoholic ice creams before and even boozy cupcake bars in New York. Do you think for the Savannah customer it is too different? Savannah does not like change. We are one of two places that have the manufacturing capability. It is us and Leopolds. Because of that, do you see Leopolds as a competitor? As it has also been around for a lot longer and people see it as a piece of

“WORD OF MOUTH HAS BEEN THE GREATEST CONTRIBUTOR IN STICKER POLE IN THE BACK, SO IF YOU TAKE A PICTURE OF IT, (..continued) Savannah history. Leopolds is a Savannah staple. It has history that we do not, but I do not see us as doing the same thing. They are more classic, while we are more innovative. Leopolds also differs in the way that they run their business. They have a different business model, one based in retail with no wholesale, while we started soley in wholesale and now have branched out into small portion retail. For those reasons we cannot really compete. We are the only ones that can offer our creations, which is something that sets us apart. Also the fact that we are young, motivated and innovative, I think folks respond to that, certainly SCAD kids. 80

Have you done anything with SCAD? As it is a ready resource. Both our logo’s were created by SCAD kids. First our manufacturing logo, the one with a silhouette of a door and a man running and our second, the one we will be transitioning over to for retail, with the rocket ship orbitting in space. Did you approach SCAD to help design something then? Yes. We reached out to them and they were willing and excited to help. We collaborated with the graphic design department. So you are still using both logos?

Since we now have this retail space, we are transitioning into using the second one alone, but I still have to use up the 10,000 pints with the old one on it. Good luck! That is so great though that you were able to get SCAD involved. Yeah, I think the fact that we are so different, the students relate to that. Something edgy, and making your own path, that’s what they’re doing. We get a ton of students coming in and all of the workers and barristas are SCAD kids. How do you make sure you are so different from anything else available?

drink we created with two pumps vanilla, a double shot of espresso, steamed milk and a scoop of coffee ice cream, so that as it melts it sweetens and flavors it. Then it is topped with a swirl of caramel and chocolate sauce. That alone took hours of experimenting with all different ice cream flavors to determine which would taste best. Our affogato also took some experimentation. See, we use a chilled glass which is special because usually the double shot of espresso would melt the ice cream but because of the chilled glass it refreezes the ice cream and espresso together.

We have something called an orbit sunday, which is a glazed donut with whipped cream around it, a scoop of cinnamon honey ice cream in the middle, caramel and chocolate swirl that signify the orbit and then brown rice crispies on around the whipped cream to resemble space junk floating around. And we also have our sampler called our ice cream flights that is in the shape of an old plane made, with 4, 5 oz. offerings of any ice cream flavor. As well as having ice cream sandwhiches, cookies and sorbet popsicles.

Hours!! Hours of experimentation on everything. We offer coffee floats, which is a signature

What other unique combinations do you offer?

That’s right. We thought for summer, it would be a lot more

Well, for one, our coffee is Exit Strategy. I actually had a line of coffee that I created during my off seasons when I played professional baseball. Wait. You started your own line of coffee as a professional baseball player? That’s something I have never heard before. Yeah. I think it kept me sane. So I already had that, and when we created the store it just added another level of unique quality.

Did you create the sorbet popsicles for a non-dairy option?

refreshing to have a 4 oz. sorbet popsicle of mango, strawberry and peach for those that did not want something as creamy or rich as the custards. Made from the Whole Foods fruit.

type of food trucks, so the fact that the owner approved our idea to take our product directly to River Street, where the foot traffic is constantly flowing was a huge deal.

create a personnalized, completely customized recipe for them. Our last one we did was with a couple from Gulf Stream and we did an oatmeal stout and a peanut butter chocolate porter.

Do you use the cart outside for all of your products?

Have you ever been asked to cater for private events, as you are a very different option than others that have been used in the past for parties?

That must make it even more memorable. Not just for weddings but any event or opening.

No. The push cart we just use for the popsicles. Since the owner of the building also owns a large amount of property on River Street we are allowed to take it down by the water and sell them from the cart. Is that unusual for Savannah to allow? Yes. Savannah does not allow any 82

For sure. Definitely, since it is so unique and not as conventional, we have couples coming up to us saying that they are getting married and having a reception at a Southbound Brewery and want us to cater it because of the compatibility of our products. Then we get to sit down with them and

I think so. Especially if we can customize it to their tastes in particular. In addition to catering, we also offer an open mic night Sundays at 4-6 p.m. which is another way to get to known the community, since everyone has been so great and responded with such positivity. And the view’s not bad either when everyone is in the back room.

SHOULD YOU

His Argument “I know we’ve been together for a long time, but we’re not going anywhere. We haven’t done anything new or different in years. I

BREAK IT OFF?

Her Argument “We can’t break up – we’ve been together for too long. Nobody else will understand you the way I do. We’ve put too much time and work into our relationship to break up now.”

feel like we’re just stuck in a routine instead of being in a relationship.” Should You Stay...

Maybe she has a good point. If you’ve been in relationship for over 5 or 6 years, then it’s true you both have invested a lot of time and effort into the relationship. But you could be right too – it’s easy for couples to get stuck in a

routine and forget to try something new. So to save your relationship, try that! Go try some new type of food or a new restaurant that you’ve never been to. Try a new sport, like hiking or tennis – something you can both enjoy and get into together. And especially don’t be afraid to try new things in the bedroom… or even the kitchen. Finding a way to compromise and work together often results in a much stronger relationship, and will be better for you in the long run instead of just going separate ways.

...Or Should You Go?

If you’re having this argument now, chances are you’ve probably had it before. When there’s a lack of communication in a relationship, it’s easy for a significant other to bring up past injustices or even continue to be upset about the same subject repeatedly without forgiveness. Some common red flags to look out for in a relationship are: a lack of communication, lack of trust, immaturity and irresponsibility, controlling and even abusive behavior.

The Bottom Line

The truth is that you both have good arguments. If you have a hard time imagining a day without your girlfriend, then you need to find a way to compromise (really, compromise and communication is absolutely key) and make the relationship work. But if you’re more interested in having fun with somebody new, and she’s displaying some red flags that have begun to make you worry, then it’s definitely time to break it off.
