Congratulations, and welcome.
Dear Parent, People use a few different words for kids like yours: precocious, gifted, smart. And these young learners display their abilities in different ways. Some go from being read a favorite bedtime story to reading on their own months ahead of schedule. And others turn science projects into engineering marvels a two-car garage can barely contain. If you’re reading this, it’s because an educator thought your child can or is already performing above grade level. And as you seek out the best resources to support your bright young learner’s unique abilities, the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth (CTY) can help. By enrolling your child in CTY’s Academic Talent Search, our above-grade-level testing service, you’ll get vital information about where your child’s true academic abilities lie and an opportunity to explore advanced courses, educational travel opportunities, award ceremonies, and more. Read on to learn more or contact us at ctyinfo@jhu.edu or 410-735-6278 to get started today. We look forward to helping your child become all that he or she can be.
Sincerely,
We’ve heard your kid is one of them.

Talent Search Benefits
Discover where your child’s true academic abilities lie Each grade in school comes with a range of skills and a body of knowledge students are expected to master. But what about students who have already exceeded the standards for their grade? For these high achievers, CTY’s above-grade-level testing can provide a more accurate measure of their true academic abilities.
Access advanced coursework online and at summer sites around the country Students with eligible scores gain access to courses designed to challenge and stimulate highly able students.
Augment the resources available at your child’s school The score report students receive after testing with CTY can be a great tool for families and educators to discuss the next steps in a student’s academic plan. Many schools have given students course credit for taking CTY’s advanced summer or online classes.
Leverage the experience of a leader in gifted education at one of the world’s great research universities CTY has been helping advanced young learners and tracking their progress since 1979. Our experts are available to consult with families looking to help bright young students navigate both academic and career goals.
Validate your child’s abilities and build confidence From certificates of participation to award ceremonies for especially high-scoring students, CTY works to give academic achievers the recognition they deserve. Being selected to participate in the Talent Search is an honor, one that students can carry with them for the rest of their lives.
Prepare students to compete in a global economy
Since 1979, CTY has helped more than 1.75 million students in 120 countries fully develop their academic potential. 4
Through the Talent Search and other CTY programs, students can gauge their skills against and, potentially, meet bright students from around the world.

CTY Programs and Services
Above-grade-level testing through the CTY Academic Talent Search Through the Academic Talent Search, CTY gives bright students in grades two through eight an opportunity to test their verbal and mathematical reasoning skills against exams designed for older students. Second- through sixth-graders can take CTY’s School and College Ability Test (SCAT) while seventh- and eighth-graders can choose from the SAT, ACT, or an advanced version of the SCAT. Beginning in fifth-grade, Talent Search participants can also learn more about their spatial ability, a unique type of intelligence involving complex visualization, using CTY’s Spatial Test Battery (STB).
Family Resources All students who enroll in the Talent Search are eligible to participate in Family Academic Programs, one- and multi-day learning adventures tailor-made for the families of bright students. These programs give CTY families a level of access to museums, universities, and other sites often not available to the general public as well as itineraries to exciting destinations around the world.
Summer Programs Held at more than 20 college and school campuses along the east and west coast, CTY’s three-week Summer Programs give students with eligible Talent Search scores an introduction to topics as diverse as aviation, computer science, and medieval history at an accelerated pace.
CTYOnline Students with eligible scores also gain access to CTYOnline, advanced courses they can access year-round from the comfort of their own home on a pre-determined schedule or at their own pace.
Last year, 9,300 students from 33 countries participated in CTY’s Summer Programs. 6
