Tutor-a-Bull IS MAKING A
DIFFERENCE
IN THE LIVES OF STUDENTS
IN TAMPA BAY The University of South Florida College of Education (COEDU) is committed to educational excellence. Our Tutor-a-Bull program promotes academic achievement and is designed to increase motivation for learning, provide experiences for our education majors to practice teaching in a real-life settings, and provide support for academic achievement for middle and high school students who are struggling academically. In 2011-12, 400 students in 20 schools received over 22,000 hours of tutoring from 140 USF COEDU students. “The Tutor-a-Bull program made my education infinitely better. I feel that I am more prepared than ever to become a teacher because of the time I spent tutoring my students oneon-one. I was able to experience, firsthand, teaching at its finest. I was able to practice using the latest technology and help my students learn from it.”
-Tiffany Dick, USF COEDU Student Tutor “I received positive feedback from several teachers who said my tutoring was benefitting their students. A teacher at Sligh Middle School sought me out to personally thank me for helping to improve one student’s grades from D’s to B’s.” - Richard Roy, USF COEDU Student Tutor
84 - 85% of all students who participated in Tutor-a-Bull made learning gains in reading and mathematics on the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT).
