MAYOR’S MESSAGE

Celebrate the 2018 Seniors Festival! On behalf of Ku-ring-gai Council, I’m delighted to welcome you to the 2018 Seniors Festival celebrations in Ku-ring-gai. NSW Seniors Week is on between 4 to 15 April, but Ku-ring-gai Council and other communitybased organisations are offering nearly 40 events during March and April for older residents, many of them free. This guide tells you everything you need to know about what’s on offer, but please book early! Some events such as excursions are very popular and book out quickly. A highlight of the celebrations is the presentation of the Mayoral Awards on Tuesday 20 March, honouring some of Ku-ring-gai’s most outstanding senior citizens making a difference to the lives of others in our community. Congratulations and thank you to our winners and those who were nominated. Thank you once again to Event Cinemas Macquarie for sponsoring the annual free movie. Other activities during the Festival include fermenting, flower arranging, local history, pottery painting, Tai Chi and ballet, as well as the chance tell your life story. There will also be tours of the Community Garden at Turramurra, the Baha’i Temple and other excursions. All the events on offer are guaranteed to cater for all tastes and interests. Thank you to all the organisations and community groups who are sponsoring and supporting the festivities. I hope you enjoy our Seniors Festival this year! Cr Jennifer Anderson Mayor of Ku-ring-gai

TELL YOUR STORY: LIFE AFTER 60 ORAL HISTORY PROJECT AT GORDON LIBRARY Are you a Ku-ring-gai resident over 60 years of age? Do you have a story to tell? If so, we want to hear from you! Tell Your Story is a video-based oral history project. Last year Ku-ring-gai residents shared their lives with us in interviews that were at times humorous and heartbreaking but always personal and unique. This year we again seek to discover what life after 60 is really like. How has life changed for you? What have you learned? Do you have any regrets? We will examine these and more questions in interviews at Gordon Library. All Ku-ring-gai residents over 60 are welcome to share their stories. What we need: • An hour of your time during Seniors Week, April 9-13. • A selection of photographs from throughout your life (digital copies will be kept by the Library). • A willingness to share your story.

They knit, crochet and sew beautiful, warm wraps which, since 1992, have wrapped more than 414,000 people with love and warmth, in countries experiencing extreme poverty or natural disasters. On 24th August from 10 am the work of our group will be on display before it goes to people who need and deserve to be wrapped with love. You are warmly invited to come along and knit a few squares as you enjoy morning tea and plenty of opportunities for good conversations.
