Compared to domestic water filters, portable water filters aren't widely used due to the high price and complicted operation.

Developing conception.

When brainstorming, we wanted to find out w h a t b a c k p a c ke r s need. After that, we decided to focus on the filter's operation and social media of backpackers.

Concept

Brand new method of operation. After doing research on several existing products, we decided to create a new method of operation to replace the old and complicated one. Thinking of its feasibility, we chose "Slide" as our new method of operation and make prototype to test it.

Backpackers created a group that needs much information to exchange. Based on the group properties, we tried to make our bottle smarter. We thought that if there was any possibility to collect the water quality all over the world and create a data base.

Hyval is a bottle designed

specially for backpackers. Our d e s i g n p r ov i d e s u s e r s w i t h various feature. User will be able to increase the access to drinkable water while traveling. When user filter water, Hyval will collect water data from the device, creating a"Water map" that shows the quality of water across the world.

Each lid-body connector is conneted to a water bag which is the main container for the water.

Proceed to filter the water. Too comtaminated to filter. Might damage the device.

Turn the bottle upside down, and drop some water into the hollow area to activate the TDS measuring. Check the signal light* to determine if the water is suitable for filtering. At the same time, the data will be stored online.

Uncrew the bottom lid, fill in water and turn the bottle back on its right side. Slowly slide the gripping ring down. Finally, filter is completed, the water is ready to drink.

Hyval APP offers many service, including automatic detection of water quality, personal alram, water map and socializing platform. Among those features, water map is the most speacial. There is a TDS prode on the bottom lid of Hyval bottle, which will attacted to the TDS result in the headphone when detecting water quality.

Start point Earphone anywhere, anytime.

People in Taiwan tend to listen to music when walking on the street, waiting for a bus or taking public transportation. However, it isn't comfortable to have mobile phone (or other music player) in our hand or pocket all the time. Even if we put the phone in our bag, we still meet problems. For example, the earphone cable can get entangled in bag most of the time. Therefore, I tried to find out a way to solve this problem.

Goals - Focus on talking with herself in busy life. ( need her own space somtimes. ) - Want to enjoy music - not be bothered by items besides. ( swinging cable ) - Make good use of commuting time on thinking deeply.

Frustrations - Feel embarrassed when dealing with the entangled cable in public. - Used to take many items in hands - confused by where to put the music player. - Dealing with those items besides makes her irritated.

After doing interview and persona works, I understood more about my target users and started to find ways to solve those problems.

Concept

Conbine reel with bag charm.

Insight The most important part we needed to deal with was the earphone cable. As the result, a fixture between earphone and our music player might help a lot. Besides, thinking about items we usually take outdoors, I found out that it is necessary to carry a bag on our side. So I decided to make combination of the reel and bag charm.

Material I choose black iron as the material in order to stick to the magnet which make it more convienient for taking in and out. In addition, metal is much stronger than other material which can protect the earphone better.

About the design of the rotation shaft Thinking of the connection between two metal, the foldback clip came into my mind. Consider the feasibility of production, I choose this way to connect the front and back cover.

Introducton

"MUSICPAL" is a reel that make dealing with headphones cable easier. It is made of black iron, which has grip on magnet. Using the attraction between iron and magnet, MUSICPAL create a new way to storage headphones cable. You can use it in two different situations. (1) When you want to listen to music outdoors. (2) When you want to storage headphones cable somewhere readily available.

Material Experiment.

when wax meet the coffee ground Using the feature of wax (keeping original smell) and coffee grounds(deodorant), I started a new material experiment. I made it a decoration which looked like tree trunk. It can be put beside shoes cabinet or somewhere in the the entranceway. And we can put our keys or necklace on it.

Goodbye plastic bags.


Start point

plastic bag cause marine ecological damage. Our group members saw the news about the dead whale which was found filled of plastic bags in its stomach. Therefore, we started to think a way making people to refuse using plastic bags.

We analyzed the relationship between the provuder and acceptor of plastic bags. To arouse to the enviroment preservation acknowledge, we decided to do something which led the acceptors say "NO" on their own initiative instead of limiting the supply.

Behavioral experiment

Interesting animation about the plastic bags.

We created an animation about the bad result of using plastic bags and observed if this film could change people's decision.


Using Gopro to keep the video records.

Although the result wasn't good enough (only few people refused to take the plastic bags), we still learned more from the experiment and tried to do more. The most inportant point was that we should provide a better way to replace using the plastic bags for the customer. It could help us to make refusing plastic bags easier to achieve. After reflecting on our experiment, we are going to try more to arouse to the enviroment preservation acknowledge.

T-shirt design We created four main characters associated with nap. And those brand characters are designed on our T-shirt in four different and interesting ways.

Postcard design To create interation a n d m a ke d i f f e r e n t with other postcards, we not only put cute things accociated with nap on it, but make the card napped.

Manufacture We t r i e d s o m e t h i n g n e w o n postcard : laser cutting the flock dusted paper. It was a challenge to minimize the rate of defectiveness. The rest part were manufactured by our hands.
