Come on, let’s go to Makkah! But first, let’s get our map out to read! Makkah is where we go to perform both hajj and umrah. Hajj is one of Islam’s five pillars, and someone who has been on hajj is called a “hajji”.

Masjid al-Haram

Masjid al-Haram means “the sacred mosque”. Right in the middle, we can see the Kaaba. We turn to it to pray, no matter where we are in the world. The Kaaba is our Qiblah.

Now we’re inside the Masjid al-Haram. This is the Kaaba. People performing hajj walk around the Kaaba seven times. Walking around the Kaaba is called tawaf.
