CHRISTIAN-MUSLIM RELATIONS
Christian-Muslim Relations What Every Christian Should Know About Islam Ruqaiyyah Waris Maqsood n Updated edition n Simple question and answer style format Of the many books explaining Islam, few specifically address the concerns and questions of those of a Christian background. Moreover the commonalities between the Abrahamic faiths — Judaism, Christianity and Islam — are too often ignored. Set out in an easy and informative question and answer format, the specific theological points of agreement and difference between Christianity and Islam are addressed, the core religious beliefs and practices of Islam are explained, as well as the most common questions today of Islam and Muslims in an age when there is much conflict and misunderstanding. Islam is best judged not by limitations and transgressions of its most extreme, ignorant, and outlandish followers but by the example of its moderate majority, and Ruqaiyyah Waris Maqsood presents this introduction to the theology and practice of Islam in an attempt to explore some of the false impressions that surround it. Ruqaiyyah Waris Maqsood gained an honours degree in Christian Theology from the University of Hull in 1963. She went on to become a writer and the Head of Religious Studies at various state schools until her retirement in 1996. She converted to Islam in 1986 and now lectures and writes on Islam. 160pp. ISBN 978-0-860373-75-9 PB n Rights Available – All Languages
ISLAMIC ECONOMICS
Islamic Economics First Principles of Islamic Economics Abu’l A‘la Mawdudi First Principles of Islamic Economics collects together the major writings on Islamic economics by Abu’l A‘la Mawdudi (1903-79), one of the leading Muslim intellectuals of the twentieth century. Written between the 1930s and the 1960s, Mawdudi laid down the foundations of modern Islamic economic philosophy. Drawing upon the teachings of the Qur’an and Sunnah, Mawdudi spelled out major elements of a new paradigm for economic analysis and policy, wherein economic pursuits take place in the context of moral values and directed towards achievement of personal and social objectives. The uniqueness of this approach lies in making efficiency and equity inseparable and interdependent. In an Islamic framework creation and distribution of wealth become instrumental in promoting individual and social well being, enabling the economic discipline to open up pathways to economic development, social justice and human welfare. Khurshid Ahmad, who edited the Urdu original, Ma’hshiyat-i Islam, has contributed a new introduction to this authoritative English translation by Shafaq Hashmi. Abul A’la Mawdudi (1903-1979) was a leading Muslim intellectual and a chief architect of the Islamic revival in the twentieth century. In 1941 he founded Jama’at-i-Islami, a political party in Pakistan, which he led until 1972. He authored more than a hundred works on Islam, both popular and scholarly, and his writings have been translated into some forty languages. 290pp. ISBN 978-0-86037-492-3 n Rights Available – All Languages

ISLAMIC ECONOMICS The Future of Economics: An Islamic Perspective M. Umer Chapra The Future of Economics raises and tries to answer a number of crucial questions about economics. One of these pertains to the primary task of economics – is it just to analyze and predict or is it also to help a society actualize its vision? Is it possible for economics to help realize the Islamic vision by taking into account only economic variables and analyzing just ‘what is’, as conventional economics does or is it also necessary to discuss the moral, psychological, social, political and historical factors that have led the hiatus between the vision and the prevailing reality, and to suggesta strategy for bridging the gap? M. Umer Chapra is a research advisor at the Islamic Research and Training Institute of the Islamic Development Bank, Jeddah, and author of The Future of Economics and Islam and the Economic Challenge. 472pp. ISBN 978-0-860373-45-2 PB n Rights Available – All Languages

ISLAMIC ECONOMICS Essays in Islamic Economics M. Fahim Khan A systematic and rigourous exposition of various aspects of the economics of Islam. These essays not only provide an overview of the various dimensions of Islamic economics but also convincingly establish the viability of the application of these concepts in the contemporary set-up. The analysis presented in this book also establishes the amenability of Islamic economics to scientific investigation and hence its conclusions and analysis directly comparable with what is known as the science of Economics. The scope of this book as well as the analytical and rigorous approach used in presenting Islamic economics makes this a useful and perhaps the only book so far available that can be utilized as teaching material in graduate programs in universities both in the East and the West where this subject is taught. It fulfills the need of graduate students of economics in that it provides rigorous reading material to assist them in their course work or in pursuing their own research on the subject. “Precisely the kind of book that Western economists have been waiting for.”— John Presley, former professor of economics, University of Loughborough M. Fahim Khan is the president of the Islamic Society of Institutional Economics at the International Institute of Islamic Economics, Islamabad, Pakistan, and is the author of ten monographs on Islamic economics. 264pp. ISBN 978-0-860372-46-2 n Rights Available – All Languages

Fiction – Picture Books Cinderella: An Islamic Tale Fawzia Gilani Cinderella is one of the oldest, best-known, and most loved stories worldwide, with hundreds of cultural variants and retellings from ancient Egypt and China to the present day. In this version we follow the trials and tribulations of the sweet, gentle, and pious Zahra when her parents die and she is left at the mercy of an uncaring stepmother and stepsisters. This is a well-crafted Islamic version of the classic tale in which faith, goodness, and prayer are rewarded in the end. The charming, richly detailed illustrations of Shireen Adams, set in medieval Andalusia, help bring the text to life. “It’s easy to feel a sense of peace after completing Fawzia Gilani’s. This humble version of the classic fairy tale is a gentle reminder that victory comes as much from a peaceful soul as a beautiful dress and a dramatic confrontation.” - Fawzia Gilani
