Vibha Home to a young working couple, this is a 3BHK apartment that looks chic, contemporary and elegant. With the bare minimum room areas we had to design interiors with the space that was functional and aesthetically pleasing to the clients where they feel relaxed after a busy work day. Design constraints such as structural columns and beams that are unavoidable in a pragmatic apartment building which were seamlessly camouflaged with the overall interior of the house.

Comfort Suites Located in the heart of Grandview and just a short drive away from the downtown Kansas city, this project is on the interstate 49 and US-71. This hotel has a modern intake on the interiors and has amenities like indoor pool and fitness center. As a part of my first project during internship on J1 visa, this project included extension and submittal work. It gave me a wide exposure regarding the primitive difference in the construction technique used in USA. It gave me an opportunity to first hand experience the wall techniques, type of material used and what kind of construction documents are to be prepared for both city submittal and on-site work.

Pol This residential villa is situated in a typical Indian neighborhood at a high-density narrow street with very little greenspace, much like the pols in the old city of Gujarat. With a new intake on haveli, this residential villa was designed to provide all functional requirements as per the NRI client resident of Morrisville, NC as their home when they come back to their native place.

Taking inspiration from pol houses in India, client’s primary inclination towards worshiping, a vertical connected semi-open courtyard prayer space was allocated on ground floor that was visually connected from the floors above. Furthermore, the intense heat from the south and west direction is treated with pergola and screening to reduce heat gain.

Prison National level architectural design idea competition Govt of India, Bureau of Police research & Development
As a finalist and the top 3 selected works of this competition, we at KPA designed a prototype for Central Prison. It includes more than 14 institutional building that houses: Convicted, under trial, women jail, hospital, re-creational spaces, court, administration building, highrisk jail and a residential sector, hostels and communal spaces for all level of government staff working for the central jail. This project was designed considering an elaborate building code, by-laws and mandatory site planning as per the defense and security system of a prison in India. Our design principal focused on creating a prison that prioritized ease of security as well as providing a healthy work and living spaces for the inmates so as to motivate them into being a better human. It was aimed to make them realize the life of normal people and that they can still find their way back into the world.

Revitalising Mills Re-appropriation of abandoned textile mills in East Ahmedabad, an intervention at NC mill
Year 2019, B.Arch
Re-vitalizing a mill by integrating appropriate catalyst that stimulates its relevance back in the surrounding locale. The purpose of the project is to revive the same nature of acting as a catalyst for bringing people and communities together and serve as a base to enhance their social and economic well-being. • Preserve the historic architecture of industrial area • Integrate heritage, culture and lost skills • Improve potential use of the area • Integrate space for the community • Reinforce social gathering and eclectic community area

FACTORS OF INFLUENCE
PRPOSED PROGRAM • Handloom Production & Training Center For providing a scope for reviving the lost skills and platform for community employment • Textile Museum For spreading awareness and knowledge of the prosperous textile history of the city. • Cultural Centre For providing people of the community with place for social interaction • Leisure Zone For integrating peaceful and entertaining place for every age group of the city
The design intervention in this project is carefully carried out with respect to the spaces between two build forms: • either new & new • either old & new • either old & old In the entire project various scale and volume of spaces are created between the built form duly for the purpose of perceiving the old ruins publicness the space hold. These spaces between acquire various forms such as: Plazas, Courtyards - Pavilions, Stage, Bridge

PROPOSED SITE PLAN
Research Thesis Reuse of industrial heritage sites, Study of approaches for the case of Ahmedabad Nirma University, B.Arch 2020 University honoured best undergraduate research thesis.
This research provides an opportunity for former industrial heritage sites and its elements, not only to be preserved or reused but to be integrated in the city’s future. In order to do that, study of urban spatial composition of these complexes and their surrounding area is the key factor. Using the case of abandoned textile mills of Ahmedabad, the research is able to derive; a relationship between, “possible urban change and identified urban condition.” This relationship is studied for each case using a set of parameters, answering important question such as, Who will it impact? What should be emphasized? How will it impact? Why this specific viewpoint? And What will be the outcome? Inference from these question leads us to important guidelines for consideration of reuse. The guidelines make sure that the action of reuse will lead to desired approach. Here, the important learning is that a reuse project for any heritage site must look upon the bases of conservation of its historic value and than other various issues, so that they are relevant today. The idea of perceiving reuse for heritage industrial site into more than one objective makes it important to investigate the most important role a heritage site can play irrespective to the action of conservation, that is made constant. It helps us to really define; to what extend the site can be preserved and alternatively used to create its new identity.
Abstract •
The city of Ahmedabad has always been known for its traits of trade and commerce and esteemed business acumen. The city was always established independently and has seen prosperity on its way when more and more people started investing in textile industry. It was once known as ‘Manchester of the East’. However, it is astonishing to see that today the same part of the city which gave its name in the history is facing a major shift. In order to bring back this lost integration of the historically rich eastern part of the city, abandoned and defunct ruins become the core for revival. With its direct thread to the glorious past of the city, these abandoned ruins serve a crucial role in redevelopment. The base of the study is dependent on the assumption that there is a relationship between heritage & identity, historic architecture and today’s transformation of the cities.
•
This paper outlines the typology of urban spatial structure that is relevant for this city fabric. These typologies of urban structure were first studied from the principles derived by Council of European Studies, 2018. It is necessary to study the spatial quality and adaptable condition of the industrial ruins. In order to study this better, the thesis looks upon redundant mills of Ahmedabad as a case, to identify what factors/values of design to be taken under consideration for such projects, reuse of industries.
•
A mixed-research methodology; qualitative and quantitative was used to carry out case analysis. These values is used to direct towards what appropriate approaches can be applied in case of Ahmedabad. The outline of approach is based on Heike Overmann and Harald A Meig study of ‘Industrial Heritage sites in transformation, clash of discourse. Inferences from Ahmedabad case-studies concluded that, Industrial heritage site as Urban landmark & Cultural landscape, as Testimony of past and as Built infrastructure & Spatial resource, are the approaches best suitable for the textile mills.
•
These approaches are based on what objective is applicable for the reuse of heritage sites. The research concludes that, the abandoned industrial sites in Ahmedabad are in capacity to be preserved and alternatively reused for appropriate reuse that can focus on city, regional as well as local socio-economic and cultural needs. These sites have a scope to develop into various functional use like recreational area, working centers, commercial activities, housing development, museums and cultural centers.
•
Here, the important learning is that a reuse project for a heritage site must look upon the bases of conservation of its historic value and than other various issues, so that they are relevant today. At the end of the research, the thesis is able to provide a framework and guidelines for finding appropriate reuse solutions for industrial heritage site.
