Hearing loss! How to deal with it?
H
earing loss is a natural consequence of getting older. Our hearing ability worsens from our 30s or 40s and onwards and when we reach our 80s, more than half of us suffer from some degree of hearing loss. In India one in twelve people suffer from hearing loss. Another common reason for hearing loss is exposure to noise, either due to working in noisy industries like power plants or mills; or from voluntary exposure to noise, such as noisy motors or loud music Also the increasing use of portable MP3 players are causing hearing damages. capable of delivering high sound levels and the user risks exposing their ears to highly excessive dB levels. Hearing loss may also occur as a result of disease, infections or drugs. It may be inherited or be a result of physical damage to the ears or serious injuries to the head. Hearing loss can either be conductive or sensorineural. Some people suffer from both, which is called mixed hearing loss. Once suspected to be suffering from hearing loss you should consult an Audiologist. The ‘Audiologist’ will assess your hearing to find the cause, degree and type of your hearing loss. Some
people may not need a hearing aid, for example, if an ear infection affects your hearing temporarily. If the specialist advises that you need a hearing aid, they’ll recommend the most suitable type. By working with an audiologist, you are purchasing professional care and services to ensure that the correct hearing aid is selected and that proper programming of the hearing aid is completed Hearing aids are miniature electronic devices that sit in or on the ear and selectively amplify and process sounds. ove Care Foundation is a non profit, nongovernment, voluntary organisation committed to improving quality of life of underprivileged children. The organisation provides direct and indirect care to more than 17000 children in India. Initiated in October 2011, it is a vision of Mr. Sanjoo Dadroo ,National Director ,whose objective has been to help the unprivileged children live a life of self respect and dignity through education and moral values inculcated in them. He started his career at SOS Children’s Villages of India in the late nineties. He worked there for 6 years under dynamic leadership of Late Mr. J.N. Kaul (President) who greatly influenced his thought process at the time and subsequently led him to consider moving into the social sector. Though he has worked for corporate sector in Human Resource Department for 17 years but he always envisioned an organisation that would enable selfless help to the underprivileged people by transforming their lives towards a better and a successful future. The Foundation team comprises of educated, experienced, self-driven and committed professionals, motivated with a passion to make a lasting, positive impression on the lives of economically & socially challenged children of our society. The various activities of Love Care Foundation aims at providing basic life necessities of food, clothing, education, hygiene and nutrition to help in the holistic development of economically and socially challenged children. The Foundation organizes health camps, educational fairs, vocational training programmes and special classes in the backward and slum areas of Delhi /NCR to help and sensitize people about their individual civic rights and
responsibilities towards society. Love Care Foundation Is running 21 Centres in and around Delhi for unprivileged children , 2 Centres for mentally challenged children by empowering them to lead a better and successful life in future. “Poverty is the parent of revolution and crime.” ---Aristotle. We are all aware of this fact that poverty is the single greatest threat to individual development. Moreover unequal societies are harmful to all citizens We believe that this gap can be bridged if we start realizing that their plight can be alleviated and lives elevated by the collective support of the community. Love Care Foundation’s aim is to bridge the gap between citizens’ needs and existing services and help them to secure their livelihood. Different Projects of the Foundation aim to empower underprivileged by helping them become self reliant and a productive member of the society. Skill development programmes in high demand sector organised by the Foundation help them to address associated social problems like drug abuse, alcoholism etc. Unprivileged people lack many opportunities. Our focus is to boost self esteem, help them to overcome fears and to follow & achieve their dreams. We try to inculcate conducive values for their healthy and holistic growth and help them become confident and feel that they are at par with others and can achieve what they want through hard work and dedication. Love Care Foundation is also committed to improving the quality of life of differently abled children by providing comprehensive, coordinated programs. 3%of India’s children are mentally /physically challenged. At our Centres these children are being given education so that they can make a place for themselves in
the society and spend their life with dignity. More than 50,0000 different NGO’S are working hard for the betterment of underprivileged but with over 120 crore people spread across 28 states/7 UT and more than 64,000 villages there is no dearth of challenges for India . Less than half of children between the age 6 and 14 go to school. A little over one third of all children who enroll in grade one reach grade eight. Our Objective is to not only enroll them in schools but to ensure that we erase the causes that keep them from attaining education. Communities are made aware of their rights and empowered to address issues leading to the root causes that keep them hungry, illiterate, exploited and abused. Causes like gender, caste, livelihoods and displacement At Love Care Foundation we believe in bringing long term & sustainable change in the lives of people by studying and addressing the reasons for illiteracy, poverty , discrimination & exploitation. Love Care Foundation conducts antismoking campaigns in the garb of interactive talks, audio, video and pictorial presentation on smoking where children are made aware of the detrimental and damaging effects of the decaying habit and encouraged to lead a healthy and vice free life. Our Foundation is the 1st foundation to file a PIL in Lucknow High Court for plain packaging of cigarettes. Our hard work and transparency is showing positive results as many individuals and corporate are joining hands to work for this common cause. We report periodically to all our supporters, donors and volunteers
on the progress of each of the initiatives we support. Mr. Sanjoo Dadroo is confident that with full cooperation from the Society and generous Donors who like to contribute and be part of this social work, the Foundation will be able to provide the under privileged equal opportunities to develop and realize their full potential. They will be able to achieve their dreams by fighting the demons of poverty and make a comfortable place for themselves in the society along with their more privileged brethren. Love Care Foundation is making ripples in the pond and is sure that its effect will reach many. eading is one of the best and inexpensive gifts a parent can give to their child. Reading to a preschool child not only benefits him to succeed in his school years but also throughout his whole life. In fact, Reading to a child on regular basis is considered to be the single most important achievement in early years. Consistency is the only word here. Being a parent, it is important to devote some fixed time for reading to your child everyday. It really doesn’t matter what is the content of reading; it could be a sports page, a story, some comic strip, spiritual reading or even gardening or poetry. The chances are a child becomes a good reader and interested in reading when she sees her parents in the same mood that is showing interest in
books. Reading to young children benefits them in a myriad of ways. This is the best thing a parent can provide a child with a foundation for academic excellence. Jacqueline Kennedy quoted once, "There are many little ways to enlarge your child's world. Love of books is the best of all." The importance of reading to preschool children is many-folds. There are innumerable essential skill building benefits of reading; some of them are as follows 1. Creates a strong bond (Develop socio-emotional skills) - Reading by a parent or grand parent provides a good opportunity to share some quiet, relaxed and wonderful time together away from all those running errands or hustle bustle of busy life. They share a quality time cuddling and sharing the ideas that are contained in the
story or some book. Hence reading becomes a vital nurturing activity that aids in making the parentchild bond stronger and providing that emotional security and the confidence in child’s mind. 2. Building vital language skills - when parents read out loud, it gives children an exposure to proper phrasing, pronunciation and grammar. Reading out loud enhances the spoken skills of child and later, their ability to express themselves verbally. Reading exposes them to new vocabulary which deepens their knowledge gradually. It also allows children to learn more about different topics and find details about any subject, hence opening up a new world of possibilities for them. 3. Building a base for academic excellence - One of the most important benefit of reading
to the young children is a higher aptitude for learning in educative years. Various studies have proven that children, who get exposure to reading in their early formative years, are more likely to excel in academic field in their later and formal education. 4. Develop logical thinking skills - children grasp abstract concepts when they are hearing a story. The child learns to apply logic in numerous scenarios, recognizes cause and effect and learns to apply good judgment. The child learns to relate the scenarios in book to what’s actually happening in the world around him. He also becomes more excited about the experiences shared through the books.
