The Worli Koliwada is one of the 36 Koliwadas(indigenous fishing communities of Mumbai) that thrive in the city. Lost in the city’s hubub, it has its own unique character and heritage. First part of the project involved documentation of this unique charactrer of the indigenous settlemetnts,it’s evolution and one to one discussions with the inhabitants to understand their needs and way of living. This engagement with the community, developed a sense of empathy and led to a community driven sensitive design outcome which is very essential in the current scenario where the gaothan and it’s urban poor face a threat of losing their identity.

A few decades back, kabaddi was a very celebrated sport in the Worli Koliwada. A change in the gaothan fabric and reduction of recreational open spaces led to the sport losing it’s previous glory. This urban intervention aims to regain lost interest in the sport and give back the “Kabaddi Culture” along with better opportunities to the commuity.
6 Kabaddi Facility
Conversion of stepped access to the lower level to a ramp for better accessibility in case of emergency also led to the encroachment of the kabaddi ground eventually converting it to a parking lot.

For long now, the wetland ecosystem has been threatened by rapid human encroachment. This project aims to create awareness about the importance of wetlands and make people realise the need to conserve them . The site located in Sewri, Mumbai has the presence of both natural- mangroves and open mudflats; as well as man made heritage- remnants of the Sewri Fort.

In immediate vicinity of the black bay, Raja Ram Mohan Roy Road runs perpendicular to the Charni Road railway station and is a busy road network at Girgaon. The streetscape design proposal for a 2.04 km stretch of the same aims at making the street more walkable and reduce congestion and develop the street character.
14 Developing Walkablity at RRMR
The traffic can be directed in one way for a systematic vehicular movement which will enable the street to be pedestrian - friendly. The connecting roads are a convinient link in case of the vehicular traffic at Raja Ram Mohan Roy Road being organised unidirectiionally. Reliance hospital being one of the major driving platform for vehicular traffic and an emergency ambulance service, one way traffic makes it efficient for ambulance and other vehicles to reach most rapidly.
The alternate pergolas and trees assist in shading to ensure comfort.
Open air gymnasium along the widened footpath
The extensions at the junctions not only accommodates seating spaces but also decreases the crossing distance
The enclosed portable kiosks for vendors increase security as well creates lesser congestion.

Rural landscapes were created wisely according to local factors making them more sustainable. It is reflected in the beliefs, values , traditions of the people. Urbanization due to technical advancements has led to its misuse, which explains why methodologies used in the past were most green. It has a potential to be much more than a unidirectional process.Majority section of the rural villages is yet to understand the positive aspects of modernity. The vernacular culture must be understood and executed for the present , by embarking ‘future wise’ thoughts along with KEY PLAN SHOWING DISPERSED environmental consciousness, re- SETLLEMENTS taining the essence of past.
Estimating the scope of developement and relating it to the settlement patterns, the design approach is to optimise the capacity of the site, protecting the exisitng mixed use character by giving a new identity to it with respect to the priority of the stakeholders.

The design questions the general notion about public toilets which are generally gender driven and proposes an idea which is supportive , inclusive and a flexible space for all. Owing to the fact that a significant proportion of the society belongs to the non binary people, who are often excluded and neglected when it comes to designing public spaces and proposes a solution for it. The transgenders of Mumbai, are one such community who are not accepted by the society. The design proposal not only aims to change the general stigma associated with public toilets but about the trans-community as well.
24
Inclusivity in Public Toilets
Deconstructing the universal public toilet on the basis of their function such that the space in between serves as a vibrant public space where the trans community also takes active part .
Project type : Public Spaces The Little Big Loo : Competition by Vol Zero
The studio apartment has been designed with the idea of offering flexibilty to the user. The same space has multiple functions. A living room acts as a theatre, working studio , library, focal point of the house as desired by the user. Division of space is achieved with appropriate placement of furniture and by creating levels instead of erecting permanent walls.
