Brina Torkar: Jaz med zemljo in nebom Pri~ujo~i razstavljeni ciklus vpenja problematiko pokrajine, figure v krajini in genezo osebnega slikarskega jezika, ki dnevniško odseva avtori~in svet družinskih spominov, osebne rasti, materinstva in študija astrološko-mitoloških vsebin v sodobnih interpretacijah. Brina Torkar je ciklus slik združila pod razstavnim naslovom Jaz med zemljo in nebom. Programska dela so nastajala od leta 2013 pa vse do goriške galerijske postavitve. Avtorica razvija osebno ikonografijo ~loveške figure umeš~ene v upodobitve narave in tudi preko ovalnih formatov del želi poudariti reflektivni naboj. Slike kot simbolna ogledala so odsev spominov vse od otroštva naprej. Pri zgodnjem na~rtovanju del avtorica posega po družinskih fotografijah, sledi prenos likovnih in vsebinskih misli v risbe z grafitnim svin~nikom, da bi kon~no motivi zaživeli v velikih formatih. Hkrati se dotika astroloških (zodiakalni krog, planeti, lune) in mitoloških plast (motivi Lede, Atalante, strelca, Rusalke, Melanholije). Slikarka sama in njeni bižnji so tako postali nosilci simbolnih pripovedi neštetih osebnih transformacij, vselej umeš~eni v inicijacijski prostor narave. Palimpsestno zgrajen ciklus tudi v likovnem smislu doživlja premene. Ves ~as je izrazita kvaliteta risbe, naj gre za sprva v grafitnih potezah svin~nika ali pa poteze ~opi~a. Risba v zgodnjih delih nekako lebdi nad barvnimi polji, ritmiziranimi vzor~enji, ali pa se umeš~a v barvna polja (monokromnost, kapljanje, lazurnosti) in transparentnosti platna. Nato avtorica v delu gradi impasto površine, kot da bi se vsebina morala tudi likovno materializirati na zemlji. Dela novejšega datuma nastanka pa so dokon~no transformirana v širokih, teko~ih potezah ~opi~a. Tako pojmovana je tudi figura, od zgodnje dekorativne, štafelajno umeš~ene v format, kot da bi nas uvajala v branje likovne pripovedi, do organsko spojene z motivom dreves ali vode, v poenotenem pulziranju elementarnega in kozmi~nega tkiva. Barvna paleta sledi slikarkinem ob~utenju in vedno nanovo uglašena nas gledalce vpeljuje z narativnim podajanjem, doživljanjem ~arobnega, misti~nega ali zatemnjenega melanholizma. Vselej osebni simbolizem želi povezati realno in imaginarno. Barvna paleta se ves ~as spreminja, zna~ilno od dela do dela. Tako lahko zveni kot temni akord modernizma, ali kot pastelna impresija, ali kot oddaljen elektri~ni izzven manierizma. Navidezno drobna ~loveška figura v veliki krajini je pomembna vstopna to~ka za branje likovnega dela. Z deklico se kot gledalci potopimo v vodo (hkrati je to spust v nezavedno ali v arhetipsko); s strelcem smo v središ~u vsega (in premoš~amo nasprotja, se identificiramo s potjo puš~ice ali ciljem); se kot gledalci ustavimo na obsijani jasi sredi mogo~nih dreves; ali pa preko na rob umeš~ene figure, z maskasto oblikovanim obrazom, ki nam zna~ilno kaže hrbt, zremo v veliki gozd neznanega; kon~no, slikarka želi preko figure izraziti tudi željo po svobodi in neposrednem stiku z naravnim. Slikarstvo Brine Torkar se tako po motiviki umeš~a v tradicijo simbolizma in romantike ter preko renesanse sega vse do klasi~nega grškega sveta. Ekspresivna poteza v delih novejšega nastanka nakazuje slikarkino iz~iševanja miselnega in ~ustvenega sveta. Vselej izraža osebne vsebine. Motiv strelca poudarja aktivni princip, motiv zvezdne no~i kontemplativni. Dinamike med tema dvema svetovoma avtorica kon~no tudi ubesedi z naslovom razstave. Kaj je med nebom in zemljo? Sobivanja, hrepenenja, spoznanja, ~lovek v veliki sliki sveta živali in narave. Novi humanizem mikro in makro kozmosa. Postmodernizem je, kot navidezni prag za sodobne likovne prakse, znova odprl prostor za osebna iskanja, transformacije, identifikacije, ~utenja in fantasti~ne likovne artikulacije. Ina Širca

Brina Torkar: Me, Between the Sky and the Earth The cycle of works exhibited deals with the question of landscape, figures in it and the genesis of personal artistic expression reflecting the author’s world of family memories, personal growth, motherhood and the study of modern interpretations of astrological and mythological elements. Brina Torkar has decided to bring together a series of works under a common title: Me, Between the Sky and the Earth. The works were created between 2013 and the date of their exhibition in the gallery in Nova Gorica The author has been developing her personal iconography of human figures set against the backdrop of nature. Using oval formats, she is emphasizing the reflective power of the works of art. The paintings are therefore to be conceived as symbolic mirrors of memories stretching back to her childhood. The early phases of her creation start with family photographs. The visual and mental elements are transferred to drawings with a graphite pencil and instilled new life on large formats. At the same time, she reaches into layers of astrology (the zodiac circle, planets and moons) and mythology (Leda, Atalanta, Sagittarius, Water Nymph, Melancholy, etc.). The painter and her relatives have thus become custodians of accounts of many personal transformations displayed in a sacral natural environment. This set of works is a journey along the changing nature of things. The quality of the drawings shows in the traits of the pencil or the strokes of the brush. In her early works, the drawings are hovering above painted areas and rhythmically set patterns or blending with them as monochromatic texture or drops, and with the transparency of the canvas. The artist works the texture of the surface as if wanting to materialise the outline in the physical world. The more recent works show a distinctly different approach, expressed by the daring and smooth brush strokes. The same applies to her figures, the initially decorative, almost stencilled formal elements that suggest a narrative to be read, have grown into being organically blended with the motives of trees or water in the joint pulse of elementary and cosmic tissue. The colour palette follows the painter’s moods and leads the viewers across places, while presenting the themes with magical, mystical or darkly melancholic tints. The aim of her personal symbolism is to establish a link between the real and the imaginary. The colour palette also keeps changing from one work to the other: sounding, at times, as a dark chord of modernism, a pastel impression, or a remote, electrical reverberation of mannerism. The seemingly tiny human figures in vast landscapes are an important, if not the key element, for interpreting her works. Viewers therefore join the little girl to immerse in water and thus descend into an unconscious or archetypal space. The archer puts viewers at the centre of the universe, brings together opposites and makes them identify with the trajectory of the arrow or the target. We are invited to stop on a sunlit meadow surrounded by magnificent trees. The masked figure set at the edge of the painting, with its back turned towards us, invites us to gaze into the large forest of the unknown. The author also resorts to figures to express her yearning for freedom and communing with nature. Brina Torkar’s art refers to the tradition of symbolic art and romanticism; reaching as far as the Renaissance and classical Greek art. The expressive and resolute strokes in her more recent works reveal that the painter has achieved clarity in the intellectual and emotional dimensions of her being, while expressing intimate worlds. The motive of the archer is an expression of the active principle, while starlit nights evoke contemplative aspects. The painter has expressed the interaction of these two worlds in the title of her exhibition. What is there between the sky and the earth? Coexistence, yearning, awakening and man on the grand canvas of animals and nature: A new humanism between the micro and the macro cosmos. Post-modernism has drawn the divide between different types of artistic traditions, opening them up to personal exploration, transformation, identification, sensation and fantastic articulations. Brina Torkar Poljedelska 6 1000 Ljubljana, Slovenija T 041 644 475 E torkar7@ gmail.com W www.brinatorkar.com www.slikarska-sola.si Brina Torkar (1978, Jesenice) se je po zaklju~ku Srednje šole za oblikovanje in fotografijo v Ljubljani, smer grafi~ni oblikovalec, leta 2002 vpisala na Akademijo za likovno umetnost in oblikovanje, smer slikarstvo pri prof. Emeriku Bernardu in prof. Hermanu Gvardjan~i~u. Študij je leta 2007 zaklju~ila z diplomo pri prof. Sergeju Kapusu. V ~asu študija se je izpopolnjevala še na National College of Art and Design v Dublinu na Irskem. Trenutno nadaljuje podiplomski študij na ALUO, smer slikarstvo. Leta 2008 prejela študentsko Prešernovo nagrado. Od istega leta dalje tudi vodi Slikarsko šolo Brina Torkar. Živi in ustvarja v Ljubljani.
