In spite of the pandemic and the lockdown, there are children who have continued their Kumon Journey online. Anaya Sarda is one among those. “Owing to the pandemic, we decided to take a break in June till things would get back to normal. But as Anaya was so used to doing Kumon daily the parents realised that Kumon was missing from her life. They decided to resume her Kumon classes immediately within a month and there has been no looking back after that,” shares her Instructor. Kumon has been an amazing journey for me right from the day I joined. My Instructor has been very supportive and helpful. I’ve always been self-motivated and enthusiastic when I had to attend my Kumon classes. I’ve been able to fill up gaps in my command over English language and I feel very comfortable with it now. What are your future goals and how Kumon helps you achieve them? As of now I aim to be a Kumon completer. I aim to go step by step and excel at each level. Although I haven’t thought about my long term goals but yes in the short term I think I would like to be an outstanding performer in all the things I do. I also aim to be the head girl of my school as Kumon helps me gain self-confidence with every passing day.

I would like to say just one thing - Please go step by step as your Instructors advise you. You will gradually complete your levels in time. If you rush, you might not get a proper understanding. Kumon is not about completing sheets. It’s about learning more and more from the provided material.

A Strong Beginning Makes a Great Difference Research has shown that the formative years in a child’s life are crucial for his holistic development. This is the period when they develop essential life skills which pave a way for their future.

Ayaan Swing, started his Kumon journey when he was in Nursery and has witnessed a significant

transformation since then. Currently, he is in Grade 3 and is doing the G level in Math. During the difficult pandemic situation, his parents were not sure how he will study virtually but he went along really well. Kumon has made him independent, confident and disciplined. The best thing about Ayaan, as per his Instructor was that he adapted to the new normal of virtual classroom with panache.

His Instructor is very proud of him and shares, “He is a very hard working student, regular with his class and very diligent. The most interesting thing about him is that he has no hesitation whenever he encounters a new concept and his grasp of a new learning Focus is admirable. Even if he happens to miss a class,

next and is now studying beyond his grade level. There were challenges along the way but he has tackled them head on always. Last year when he was awarded with silver medal for Math, he said next time I want gold. He worked hard for it and achieved it. Kumon has given him never give up attitude and clarity of thought. We are blessed to have him and so proud of him.”

In the words of his Instructor, “Ayaan has surpassed his current grade levels and is always enthusiastic to know what’s going to come next. It is this pursuit and excitement which makes him chase one level after another, hence making him ahead of his school grade”

When asked about how Kumon has helped in his development, Ayaan shares, “Kumon has sharpened

my brain. I like learning new concepts. It has boasted my confidence. I am more confident in answering questions. It has made me independent and smarter.”

In addition to the Math programme, he is also doing English and is currently at E level. He is a fluent and a

confident reader. Besides this, he has a profound interest in Rubik’s cube, Skewb, Pyraminx, Megaminx and Mirror Cube. He wants to pursue speed cubing. He is evolving into an independent thinker and since he is

studying beyond his grade level, treading into the unfamiliar, beyond his comfort zone, he is learning to deal

and overcome challenges bravely. For Ayaan, being an advanced Kumon student boosted his confidence to a whole new level which contributed to his attitude for navigating uncertainty.

s the world eases Covid restrictions, many of us couldn’t help looking back at how this crisis has transformed many things around us, and sped up the adoption of digital technologies by many years. Education was one such sector

which took a quantum leap under the new shifts. When the crisis forced schools and enrichment centres to close their doors and move classes online, all students were also forced to become online learners. Kumon, like many other education providers also embarked on remote learning journey. The Kumon Method is a learning method that is designed for home study, and aims to foster independence in students. Hence, our dedicated instructors are still able to provide online instructions to students learning at home, just like how they do it in the centres. One key strength of this hybrid study model is that, instructors can observe how students study at home, and grasp how parents engage with their children. Through this instructors are able to work together with parents to enhance the quality of their child’s home learning. Many parents may see this sudden shift as a watershed moment for remote learning and education. How would the conventional classroom learning be like from now on? With this best hybrid study model, students are able to enjoy and continue their learning in centre or at home; by combining both online with physical lessons. Unlike a conventional classroom whereby am instructor stands in front of the class to teach, Kumon’s instructions are individualised. Every student learns a level that is “just-right” for them, and at their own pace.
