Fourth Motif: Repeat the third motif except join the first two chains of the fourth motif to the fifth and sixth chains of the third motif. Also join the fifth and sixth chains of the fourth motif to the fifth and sixth chains of the first motif. You should now have a complete ring of motifs (like a small bracelet).
Fifth Motif: Repeat second motif, except join all chain picots to the chain picots of one side of the “bracelet”. Sixth Motif: Repeat fifth motif. Finishing: You should now have a very messy, wrinkly, tatted “cube”. It won’t look too pretty yet. Insert the small un-inflated balloon into the center of the cube. Blow it up as much as you possibly can. Tie the balloon closed. Pour a bit of fabric stiffener into the zip bag. Put the balloon inflated tatting into the bag and be sure to cover all the tatting liberally with fabric stiffener. (You could cover the tatting with fabric stiffener first, then blow up the balloon inside the ornament, but it’s much harder to blow up the balloon after covering the tatting with fabric stiffener than before dipping in the stiffener.) Use the clothes pin to hang your ornament up to dry. Hang by the end of the balloon. Let dry for 24 hours. Pop the balloon. Remove the balloon carcass from the ornament. If all goes well, you should now have a stiff three dimensional ornament. Using a dry stiff paint brush or paint brush to brush away any leftover bits of glue. Add a ribbon, thread or ornament hanger to your tatted ball. Page 3 of 3 Makena Pattern and Design by Monica Denise Smith © 2008 – 2013 Last updated March 10, 2013 http://tatsittatsall.blogspot.ca
