THERE IS AN OVERWHELMING AMOUNT OF PLACES TO VISIT IN NEW YORK CITY AND TOURISTS MAY NOT SEE ANYTHING BEYOND TIME SQUARE.

TO TACKLE THIS, KURT DESIGNED A FEW MAPS AND CARDS THAT WOULD BE PLACED IN STANDS ALONG TIME SQUARE. THE MAPS WOULD CONTAIN DIRECTIONS TO VARIOUS AREAS AROUND THE CITY WITH KEY LOCATIONS TO PLACES THAT ARE MORE OFF BEAT.

FOR CHRISTINA BLACK’S CLASS, KURT WAS TASKED WITH CONCEPTING, DESIGNING, AND EXECUTING A TITLE SEQUENCE FOR A BOOK THAT HAD NOT YET BEEN MADE IT A FILM.

HIS INSPIRATION WAS FOCUSED ON THE CONCEPT OF LONILESS AND INNOCENCE. THE ENTIRE BOOK WAS FILLED WITH FUN AND HAPPINESS BUT THERE WAS A DARK MESSAGE BEHIND IT THAT KURT WANTED TO SHED LIGHT ON.

TO KURT, THE ENTIRE POEM WAS HORRIBLE AND AS HE READ IT EVEN MORE, THE WORDS JUST WENT THROUGH ONE EAR AND OUT THE OTHER.

THIS SPARKED THE CONCEPT FOR KURT’S ANIMATION. THE ENTIRE POEM WOULD BE SLAPPED ON A NEVER ENDING TRUCK PASSING BY HIM. THE WORDS ON THE TRUCK WOULD BE ALMOST ELIGIBLE, IF NOT COMPLETELY.

UNFORTUNATELY, TRUCKS NORMALLY ARN’T THIS LONG, SO FINDING ONE TO FILM WOULD BE IMPOSSIBLE.

INSTEAD, KURT’S DEAR FRIEND, AJ, MODELED A TRUCK FOR HIM. KURT TOOK THIS TRUCK, TRACKED IT IN THE SCENE, AND COMPOSITED IT. THE TEXT WAS TRACKED ONTO THE TRUCK AND THEN GIVEN A MOTION BLUR TREATMENT.
