eems like doing the right thing in Kuwait has become the wrong thing to do. The people who broke into parliament are being looked at as heroes rather than criminals! What have they achieved exactly? It’s not like it’s the first time the government has resigned after pressure from MPs and several grilling motions. Why on this occasion are they celebrating like it is the first time? The sad part is that those who stormed parliament are being shown on TV as if they are the ones who liberated Kuwait from Saddam’s 1990 invasion. By B Izzak KUWAIT: Well-informed sources and speculation swirling around indicate that HH the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber AlSabah may dissolve the National Assembly today after an Amiri speech. Earlier yesterday Sheikh Sabah yesterday appointed defense minister in the outgoing Cabinet Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah as the new prime minister and asked him to form the Cabinet. Sheikh Jaber, a senior member of the ruling family, replaces former prime minister Sheikh Nasser Mohammad AlAhmad Al-Sabah who resigned on Monday ahead of a grilling on charges of corruption. According to sources, Sheikh Nasser insisted his resignation be accepted. Sheikh Jaber, 69, has been a minister in the Cabinet since 2001 and he was also the first deputy prime minister. only head a caretaker government until the appointment of a new prime minister, for which former foreign minister Sheikh Mohammad Al-Sabah is seen as the most likely candidate. It was the first time that a Kuwaiti prime minister was forced to quit his post and politics since Kuwait became a democratic country in 1962. Sheikh Nasser, 71, was appointed to the post in Feb 2006 and since then he formed seven governments and was forced to resign each time under pressure from the opposition over allegations that he failed to run the countr y and implement development projects despite abundant wealth thanks to high oil prices. A campaign to oust Sheikh Nasser was launched in March by the opposition and youth activists who staged several mass rallies.
