By B Izzak KUWAIT: The National Assembly yesterday approved a government request to postpone the grilling of the prime minister for one year amid an intense debate between pro- and anti-government MPs. The government surprised the Assembly with the request after it informed the house that it had referred the issue to the constitutional court because it believes it contained issues that breach the constitution. Thirtyseven members supported the government request while 10 MPs opposed it, but another 15 opposition MPs walked out before taking the vote. Opposition MPs wasted no time after the defeat and said more grillings will be filed against the prime minister. Islamist MP Faisal Al-Mislem said his Reform and Development Bloc will file on Sunday or earlier a grilling against Prime Minister HH Sheikh Nasser Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah for allegedly harming Kuwait’s relations with neighbouring Gulf states. The new grilling will be filed by MPs Waleed AlTabtabaei, Mubarak Al-Waalan and Mohammad Hayef and is expected to focus on Kuwait’s failure to dispatch troops to Bahrain to help quell Shiite-led protests there. Parliamentary sources also said that two more grillings are expected to be filed, one by the Popular Action Bloc and another by opposition MPs over the government’s referral of the grilling to KUWAIT: Lightning lights up the night sky in Shuwaikh during a the constitutional court. thunderstorm yesterday. — Photo by Yasser Al-Zayyat Continued on Page 15
