NORMAN — The misdemeanor case of Oklahoma running back Joe Mixon is headed to trial, where other OU football players might become involved. Those are the developments
as of Mixon’s appearance before Cleveland County District Judge Steven Stice on Monday morning. The two sides could have announced a plea agreement stemming from the July 25 incident in which Mixon punched OU
student Amelia Rae Molitor at a Norman restaurant. Mixon could have also entered a blind plea, allowing Stice to issue a sentence for his misdemeanor charge of act resulting in gross injury. Instead, Mixon attorney Kevin Finlay and assistant district attorney Tyler Box both appeared before Stice and declared they were prepared to proceed to a trial. Stice kept the original trial date of Oct. 27 on his docket as of Monday morning. But
the sides will meet with Stice again Friday at a pre-trial conference, when case logistics will be discussed. One of them is the availability of other football players who might have accompanied Mixon the night of the incident. “Some of my witnesses are student-athletes,” Finlay at Monday’s court appearance. “My concern is this case needs uninterrupted days SEE OU B4
WORLD SERIES: KANSAS CITY VS. SAN FRANCISCO

STILLWATER — When Oklahoma State takes the court in practice, whether it be for drills or five-on-five action, the Cowboys’ four veterans are often together on one team. Those four — Le’Bryan Nash, Michael Cobbins, Anthony Hickey and Phil Forte — have combined to make 241 career starts (Hickey started 85 games at LSU). You could pencil them in as likely bets to be on the court when OSU tips off its season on Nov. 14. The fifth spot, however, is an opportunity for someone with less experience to step up. ANSAS CITY, Mo. — Alex Gordon took a big rip at a batting-practice fastball, fouled it off badly into the cage, and ducked when the carom nearly hit him in the head. Gordon let out a huge laugh, and so did a bunch of his Kansas City Royals teammates watching Monday’s workout. “I can’t believe
that just happened, dude,” pitcher James Shields razzed. It’ll be more frustrating than funny if those are the same awkward swings the Royals and San Francisco Giants take once the World Series begins. Going into Game 1 on Tuesday night at Kauffman Stadium, both teams will deal with a familiar issue this deep in the postseason: Does an extended layoff translate into rest or rust? Buster Posey and the Giants zipped through the playoffs, and now will try for their third title in five years. SEE MLB B3

OSU’s next task is to get eligible for a bowl

TILLWATER — WHERE does Oklahoma State go from here? The Cowboys’ young talent didn’t develop as quickly as everyone had hoped while the schedule was relatively easy, and now the schedule has turned tough. OSU sits at five wins, but with the daunting tasks ahead — No. 11 Kansas State, No. 12 John E.
