“Even though exploring New York was just part of the adventure of MMUN, it was really experiential and of course SUPER FUN! We were lucky enough to have the chance to go around New York, visiting historical places, watching broadway shows, eating delicious food, watching the Nicks and Warriors play, playing in the snow, overall just having a great time! Without exploring New York, the full MMUN experience wouldn’t be complete.”

“I realized that people in the States aren’t that different from us. There were people who were very easy to befriend and were really funny. Cultural night showed me dances to represent other cultures and I was able to see how people outside of our country thought of our culture and how they represented it.”

It was easy to navigate through New York because every corner always somehow lead to a familiar area and then suddenly, you’re back at where you started. The sidewalks are much bigger and pedestrian friendly, the broadway shows were great, I loved Chicago. Wasn’t able to watch Hamilton though because buying tickets is torture for the wallet. I really enjoyed the giant pizzas and their bigger than usual soup dumplings.

“The mission visit was a very informative and engaging experience, it really showed us what people in Lesotho are going through and experiencing. Hearing from someone who’s from this country really can change your perspective—from what you think you know to something that can be as accurate and detailed as possible. It was incredibly kind of the embassy to lend their time to us, helping us to learn more about the country we were representing.”

“The sessions were very eye opening and interactive. It was a great opportunity to share our ideas, and learn from others. Through this experience, we learned to work with different types of people to achieve one common goal: to create solutions for a better world.

Sessions

“The sessions were very engaging. There were different perspectives to what I thought was a one sided conversation. It shed a different light to the whole thing.”

“The MMUN sessions really made us think about Lesotho, analyze what was happening and how to become their ambassadors. Our sessions mostly focused on making our paper and discussing the current events in Lesotho, so we could understand and represent the country better. The hardest part really was looking

for sources to use in our paper about Lesotho because there wasn’t a lot of information about it. The best thing about the sessions was learning more about Lesotho, how to become their ambassadors and listening to other participants who had possible solutions to the problems they had.”

Sessions

“I learned the importance of respecting each other’s opinions - even odd ones. The GA showed us that if we can communicate our ideas together we can present great things.”

GENERAL ASSEMBLY

Ryan & Maia speak in front of the G.A. RYAN BAU TI STA Gra d e 7 Speaking at the UN building was truly an amazing experience. Getting to listen to everyone’s ideas about changing the world for the better, and sharing your own, really shows you what it means to say the youth is our future. In a world where there is so much hurt and violence, it was inspiring to see that our generation cares enough to figure out how to change it.

“Speaking in front of the UN made me realize that nothing stands between you and change. Not age, wealth or background. With determination, anything is possible “

GENERAL ASSEMBLY

“Being open minded is something that we have always known to be important. During the General Assembly, we heard different ideas and witnessed how diverse people can work together to create solutions to relevant problems. It was there where I learned the importance of listening with an open mind and with an open heart, because doing so is an important step in helping change and impact the world around me.

The Cultural Night was a breath of fresh air after hours of debating and negotiating. It was refreshing to witness many performances from different cultures interpreted in a different way. I was able

to connect with teens from my panel and even meet other delegates with similar interest like the Brazilians. The highlight of the night for me was encountering another delegate who had the same fashion sense as me!

“The cultural night was something quite special. It was this highlight in between all the work. We can’t be a (model) united nations without knowing one another. Seeing different cultures is always interesting

and meeting new people is always a fun experience. It really gives new insight about the world. How radically similar and different people are, yet how we all can work together really amazes me.”

MONTESSORI MODEL UNITED NATIONS MMUN is an NGO in Special Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council.

Montessori believed in the power of education when she said, “Establishing lasting peace is the work of education; all politics can do is keep us out of war.” At MMUN, we believe this is true and that participation in our program provides a great “path for peace.”
