Safe Storage of Flammable Liquids Class 3 flammable liquids are commonly used in businesses all around New Zealand. Here are some useful facts about the safe storage of flammable liquids.

Flammable Liquid Storage Cabinet Flammable liquids should be stored in a Flammable Liquid Storage Cabinet that has been manufactured to comply with the standard AS1940:2004. Some of the key requirements of this standard include (but are not limited to): • •

Wall, floor, doors and roof must be double walled sheet steel construction with a minimum gap between the walls of 40mm. The inner base of the cabinet must form a liquid-tight compound at least 150mm deep, and must be designed to prevent the compound from being used for storage. Any shelves must be perforated to allow free air movement All doors must be self-closing, close-fitting, and held shut automatically by catches at two or more points. The materials of any components that are critical to the cabinets structural integrity must not melt at temperatures less than 850°C
