Nationally Ranked Education System in Alpharetta
Alpharetta boasts some of the best educational opportunities in Georgia and is part of the Fulton County Public School System, which is rated “One of the Top 100 School Districts in Places You Can Afford” by Money Magazine. Fulton County is the fourth largest school district in Georgia with 106 schools with more than 93,500 students, 14,000 full-and part-time employees, including more than 7,500 teachers and other certified personnel. There are 59 elementary schools, 19 middle schools, 18 high schools (includes two open campus high schools), and 10 charter organizations. Four of the top high schools in Georgia are located in or around Alpharetta. Being a part of the Learning Zone 7, Alpharetta public schools boast high test scores, rigorous academic curricula and competitive athletic programs. Many educators and influential leaders advocate that true excellence in schools is measured by what students do with their lives after they graduate. On that note, Alpharetta and surrounding area high schools are on the right track. In a 2020 education ranking issue published by U.S. News & World Report, 5 out of 7 Alpharetta or surrounding area high schools made the top 20 list of the best high schools in Georgia, and earned a place among the top 500 high schools in the nation. This is pretty impressive given that the U.S. News & World Report rankings include data on more than 24,000 public high schools in 50 states and the District of Columbia. Nearly 18,000 high schools were ranked on six factors based on their performance on state assessments and how well they prepare students for college. Visit www.usnews.com/education/best-highschools/georgia to learn more about this ranking and the methodology. Fulton County’s SAT scores continue to exceed the state and national average. Additionally, seven Fulton County high schools rank within the top 15 highest scoring schools in Georgia, with the majority of them located in the Alpharetta and surrounding community. According

to the College Board, Fulton has more schools with high SAT performance than any other district in Georgia. Going on the ideology that the main hope of a nation lies in the education of its youth, Alpharetta high schools are doing a lot right when it comes to laying a foundation that fosters a love of learning and a curriculum that teaches students to think. Outstanding teachers, exceptional leadership and governance, a challenging and stimulating curriculum, high test scores, dedication to the arts, competitive athletic programs, a vibrant cocurricular life evidenced by a variety of clubs and organizations, and ample opportunities for community involvement demonstrate why Alpharetta’s educational efforts work hard to take its students onward and upward. Alpharetta recognizes that high quality early childhood programs are not only great for students and their parents, they also serve as great economic stabilizers and equalizers. Good schools bring more residents (and jobs) to the area which helps to increase the availability of taxpayer money to fund community improvements. Alpharetta’s exceptional primary and secondary schools are led by educated, talented, and forward-thinking administrators, teachers and support staff who focus on curriculum diversity and pay much attention to early intervention protocols to foster academic growth from the ground up. All seven of Alpharetta’s or surrounding area middle schools, including Amana Academy, show exemplary test assessment rates. According to GreatSchools, collectively, these middle schools continue to demonstrate a proficiency rate as high as 99% for all core subjects. Based on these stats, ratings and test scores, it is abundantly clear that throughout the school day in Alpharetta, there is a whole lot of learning, thinking, and discovery going on to propagate a student body awesomely prepared to take on life’s challenges long after high school graduation.
Fulton County has 18 high schools. Seven (7) are in Alpharetta or surrounding areas; five (5) of those seven rank among Georgia’s best – as measured by U.S. News & World Report’s STEM test scores and collegereadiness indices. A high school education focused on strong STEM curricula (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) can help teenagers develop problem-solving skills and provide them with a foundation to pursue a number of growing, in-demand careers. Alpharetta’s AP ® test performance stats showed high participation rates and excellent scores among students: 68% of Alpharetta high school students took an average of 4 AP ® test exams before they graduated. 90% of these students passed the exams affording them the opportunity to earn college credits while in high school and proving their readiness to take on more challenging material after graduation. Across the board, Alpharetta-area high schools continue to earn top grades for a wide range of key educational attributes: √ High test scores √ Rigorous academic curricula √ Dedication to the arts

To view scores for Alpharetta or surrounding area schools, look under Fulton County to find your particular school. All Fulton County schools have changed their testing standards to include the Georgia Milestone Assessment System and other standardized testing programs. To learn more about testing requirements throughout the State of Georgia, please visit www.gadoe.org or http:// www.fultonschools.org/en/divisions/acd/assess/pages/testing.aspx . We have included two additional numbers, a College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI) and a Climate rating. The CCRPI is a comprehensive school improvement, accoutability and communication platform for all educational stakeholders that promote college and career readiness for all Georgia public school students. The second new number is a Climate Star rating. Schools are rated on a 1 to 5 scale on the Georgia School Climate Star ratings with a "1" meaning "unsatisfactory" and "5" being excellent. The ratings are based on such factors as test scores, student discipline, attendance and student, parent and staff surveys. The CCRPI and Climate ratings reported in this edition are based on 11/2019 results. To review each school's Dashboard report, visit www.fultonschools.org/domain/291

GNFCC Engages Business and Education for Talent Development by Kali Kirkham Boatright, President and CEO, GNFCC
How do we meet the talent needs of tomorrow with the students of today? We invite our North Fulton businesses to educate and inform us about what jobs today, and in the future, will be required and begin with the end in mind. The new commodity in economic development is not available land or even our stellar schools, it is clearly workforce and talent development to meet the employment needs of new and existing development. Businesses must be able to access the diversity and quality of skills necessary to support their operations and enable potential growth across our region. The Greater North Fulton Chamber created the Talent Coalition to marry business needs with training and education provided by our K-12 and post-secondary institutions, particularly to address the skills gap within the top five most in-demand occupations supporting the health care and technology sectors. This skills gap is the difference between what the US workforce is being trained to do and what job requirements are today. In North Fulton, this imbalance is significant and effects commerce every day. The Chamber facilitates valuable relationships and agreements between our employers and our region’s education and training institutions to create customized programs and expand capacity for in-demand skill sets and occupations. The most in-demand jobs among our more than 1,400 health services facilities are Registered Nurse, Environmental Services Tech, Nurse Tech/Nurse Assistant, Patient Care Tech and Medical & Clinical Lab Technologists. However, health care jobs are increasingly becoming technology based which affects the demand for tech positions as well. The most in-demand jobs in technology among our more than 1,000 technology facilities are Software Developer, IT Project Manager, Network Systems Tech, Technical Support Analyst and Information Security Analyst. These jobs alone represent thousands of jobs opportunities within North Fulton. An excellent example and practical application of GNFCC Talent Coalition efforts is workforce information and relevant research which the Chamber provided to help advance the curriculum development of the new North Fulton Innovation Academy STEM campus. When the new campus opens in Fall 2020, offerings for high school students will focus on Engineering, IT and Healthcare reflecting specific business needs in our region. Students will graduate ready to succeed in career paths with community businesses because our quality business partners will continue to be engaged with the Academy featuring authentic learning experiences and mentorship. The Chamber has been promoting business and quality of life in our region for more than 45 years. We are blessed to have an education system that is second to none and post-secondary partners who are engaged in our region. Collaborating together to ensure that our talented children become our pipeline of excellent talent for the future is dependent upon the information gathered from our businesses as they project future growth. The Greater North Fulton Chamber is committed to our Talent Coalition mission to drive focus and change through measurable programs to address the job skills gap in North Fulton and to be the advocate among community business, education and public policy leaders.
King’s Ridge Christian School is a very special place. Among our strengths, there are a number of things that set us apart. First, it is a place of great intellectual activity and academic rigor. We seek to be the best in the world at providing a Christian college-preparatory program for students in grades Pre-K - 12; teaching students to view all learning through a Biblical template. Second, we have a passion to bring every student into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ while equipping our students to do with all excellence that which God calls them to do. From our founding in 2001 until now, our enduring mission has been to be a Christian community providing a college preparatory education equipping student to know, to serve, and to believe in Christ. Third, we’re preparing young men and women not just for college but also for life. Our aim is to educate not indoctrinate. Students not only have the freedom but also the encouragement to pursue knowledge, as well as their giftedness and calling, to the fullest extent possible. It would be my honor to introduce you to the King’s Ridge Christian School that I’ve come to know: a place where learning is contagious, the faculty is engaging, faith is deepened, and exciting things are happening. If you share the same passion and mission and are interested in experiencing it, I hope you’ll pay us a visit.
