Celebrating 10 Years! Advocating for Safer Paths, Roads and Trails

Bike Alpharetta Inc. is a 501c3 non-profit community organization that began in 2011. Members are local residents and business leaders who generously volunteer their time and talents throughout the year to advocate and to educate for improved cycling facilities in Alpharetta. The main focus is to create a safer and more enjoyable environment for people of all abilities to utilize bicycles for an improved lifestyle in our community.

BIG CREEK GREENWAY

Once bicycles and tricycles are collected at local bike shops each fall (see the website for details), then all are cleaned/repaired on ONE DAY in December, which we call Domestique Day. In addition to youth bicycles and tricycles, Bike Alpharetta uses monetary donations to purchase bike parts and new helmets, as it is a Georgia law that children 15 years of age or younger must wear a helmet when operating a bicycle. The Big Greek Greenway in Alpharetta, a 12-foot wide concrete meandering path under deciduous trees, was expanded in 2021 to a full nine miles! It now connects the Roswell section that passes under Mansell Road to Union Hill Park, with a new underpass at Windward Parkway. The greenway offers an ideal setting for cycling, walking, jogging, in-line roller blading. It even provides access to the city’s only mountain bike trails, Mt. Adams. Bike Alpharetta is proud to have produced an updated digital and print map of the Greenway, with support from the City of Alpharetta, Alpharetta Convention & Visitors Bureau and Tracy Morton-Harry Norman Realty.

BICYCLE FRIENDLY COMMUNITY

Bike Alpharetta is proud to support the City of Alpharetta as a bronze-level Bicycle Friendly Community, a national designation first received in 2018. This recognizes Alpharetta for its investment in facilities, education and outreach to better enable and inspire people to ride bicycles, be it for recreation or transportation. Volunteers make the wheels turn at Bike Alpharetta. Members have committed to keeping Cumming Street free of litter in downtown Alpharetta as part of the Adopt-A-Mile program. Throughout the year we host Beginner Rides, Senior Spokes rides, Bike to School Day, ZEN Rides from Jekyll Brewing Taproom, and more. And with support from local bike shops, community partners and generous donors, Bike Alpharetta continues to manage the Bikes For Kids program each fall to provide new and renovated bikes/trikes to North Fulton Community Charities for Toyland in early December.

BIKES FOR KIDS

Since 2007, Bikes For Kids has provided 4,310 bicycles, tricycles and scooters, as well as 1,620 new youth helmets, all free of charge to NFCC for Toyland and families in need.
