Judy McNeill Principal
Dan and Judy McNeill Dear Raider Fans, The start of school always brings with it the anticipation of Fall and, of course, Raider Football! This year the excitement of the season is palpable. As they do every summer, the players, along with the coaches, have been working hard to prepare for the upcoming season. It is this dedication that makes Raider Valley the place to be on Friday nights in the Fall. Friday night football at Walton is a community event that we can all enjoy and support. Parents, students, alumni and parents of alumni can be seen in the stands at all the home games and many of the away games. It’s a great way to spend the evening, cheering on the team, the coaches, and all the students and parents who support the team, from sports medicine to the cheerleaders, to the administrators and teachers who work the games to make the night run smoothly. It is this kind of support from everyone that makes us great. The Raider Band and Color Guard have been working throughout the summer to produce, what I know will be, another spectacular show with band leaders Mike Back and John Palmer and countless others, to bring you the best they have to offer. The cheerleaders, under Coach Roberta Manheim, have been practicing for the games, as well as their own competitions, painting run throughs and spirit signs and preparing to create excitement for the fans and community for the 2017 season. I look forward to seeing everyone in Raider Valley on Friday nights under the lights, and at all the away games to cheer on the Raiders! Congratulations and best of luck to Coach Daniel Brunner and the coaching staff, and the 2017 Football team!

We also understand that a significant portion of our success can be attributed to the tremendous support from students, parents, the community, and all of our sponsors and advertisers. Without your various contributions, Walton football and the rest of our teams would not be able to maintain their elite performances on such a consistent basis. Please know that we truly appreciate everything you do to ensure the success of our student-athletes and teams and we encourage you to continue to provide the support you have in the past.
football
And while football draws significant attention in our community, Walton athletics is about more than just what happens on Friday nights in Raider Valley. Walton fields 23 other varsity teams that consistently compete for region and state championships as well. In fact, in 42 years of high school competition, Walton teams have won 70 state championships, 243 region championships, 25 Region All-sports Trophies, and 7 State Directors Cups. During the 2016-17 school year, 18 of our varsity teams reached the state playoffs, 16 of those advanced past the first round, and 12 finished in the top ten in the state. Three teams won state championships: volleyball, girls swim & dive, and girls tennis. In addition, five different athletes won individual or relay state championships, two athletes were named the state player of the year in their sports, 10 different teams won region titles, and 35 seniors earned scholarships to continue their athletic careers in college. And finally, the athletic program earned a second place finish in the race for the State Directors Cup, which represents the best overall program in the state by classification. Clearly, Walton athletics as a whole is something that all of us should be proud of and support in any way we can.
I I
As we stand on the brink of the 2017 season, I hope you will join me in welcoming Daniel Brunner, the 10th head coach in the long and storied history of Walton High School. As many of you know, Coach Brunner has a deep passion for the game of football, but more importantly he has an even greater passion for mentoring our young men into the best players, students, and citizens they can be. After a tremendous summer that culminated in a trip to Hoover, AL, for the national 7-on-7 tournament, Coach Brunner is ready to lead our Raiders into battle against the best teams the state of Georgia has to offer. We could not have found a leader with a more positive energy for our football program, and his team will represent the Walton community well in all respects during the upcoming season. In addition, he has added two new coordinators to the varsity staff, Chris Hirschfield on the offensive side of the ball and Tim Ewing, a proud Walton graduate and father, on defense.

Stuart Gurr President, Walton Touchdown Club
Dear Walton Raider Families, On behalf of the Walton Touchdown Club (WTC), thank you for supporting the Walton Raider Football program. Since 1975, our football teams have relied heavily on support from the East Cobb Community. Specifically, we have relied on countless volunteer hours from the parents in the Walton Football program along with the generous financial support from our Corporate Sponsors who donate funds year after year, and from our local businesses that purchase advertising space in Raider Valley and within our football program. Without your ongoing support, our football teams would not be able to achieve their goals on and off the field. I would like to thank Principal Judy McNeil for the leadership she provides to Walton High School and the support she provides to Walton Football. I am also thankful for the many hours the Walton Touchdown Club officers have put forward in the offseason. Lastly, thank you to the Executive Committee for their insight into running the WTC. It has truly been a team effort. This is an exciting year for Walton with the opening of the new high school building and with the announcement of Daniel Brunner as Head Football Coach. The theme for this year’s Walton Raider football team lead by Coach Brunner is to #BallDownBallOut. Through the tireless leadership of our coaching staff, the football team has committed themselves to making the 2017 season one of the most exciting seasons in the history of our program. The coaches and players have logged many hours in the weight room, in speed & agility workouts, film sessions and camps. No doubt, they are ready for the season! As the first home game approaches, I am confident the atmosphere will be electric in Raider Valley. The Senior Class players will be leading the team on the field and we are counting on Raider Nation to come out and support our team.
Go Raiders!!! Stuart Gurr President Walton Touchdown Club

Daniel Brunner Head Coach
Dear Raider Family, First off I want to say thank you to everyone within the community for making Walton such a special place. Our administration is second to none! Our principal Mrs. Judy McNeill has created a culture and environment of academic and athletic success which has led to many achievements throughout the years. Our goal is to continue building on the success and tradition that Walton Football stands for in the state of Georgia! Our mission is to cultivate young men of character who have a drive to work hard and succeed in all environments. We will focus on helping our young men reach their full potential athletically, academically, socially, and spiritually! Your 2017 Walton Raiders have worked extremely hard this summer in the weight room and on the field. The lineman have competed with the best talent in the state at numerous camps including the Elite Lineman Camp. The 7v7 team has had a tremendous amount of success over the summer winning the USA Football 7v7 Regional Qualifier in Atlanta, earning an invitation to the USA Football 7v7 National Championship in Hoover, AL. We earned the #1 seed in the tournament going 8-0 over three days only to be knocked out by the eventual National Champion. We want to thank our parents, volunteers, cheerleaders, band, color guard, sports medicine, team doctors, and everyone involved with making Friday nights a success! The 2017 season will be another great year for Raider Nation and we are excited to share the experience with you!

Traditions In The Valley “Banana Pudding...for the Win!” In 2004 the Raiders boys would have their “pregame meal” that was prepared by the players’ moms. Madeline Freberg (Malcolm Freberg/Survivor Philippines) brought in her banana pudding as dessert and just so happened that the Raiders won BIG that night. So the boys said we HAVE to have BANANA PUDDING Friday to help us win. So in came the banana pudding for the rest of the season. Those Raiders boys took it to the DOME for the State semi-finals that year and swear to this day the ONLY reason they lost to Parkview was because they had no banana pudding that day (Saturday afternoon game with no pre-game meal)! So today the tradition still stands and those Raiders boys are served BANANA PUDDING at EVERY pre-game meal! Thank You Madeline for starting this tradition
GO RAIDERS!! Dear Raider FansWe are excited to present the 2017 edition of the Walton Football Program. It has been a labor of love to put together a keepsake that highlights our football community. We would like to thank our players, parents, coaches, cheerleaders, sports medicine team, administration, band, announcer, raider vision and student fans who all make Friday nights in Raider Valley so memorable! Special thanks to the ad sales committee of Kim Makuch, Paty Holdmeyer, Ellen Westbrock, Carla Bradwell and Michelle Lyons. In Memoriam In Memory of
Gary Fausti (1943-2017) “On the fields of friendly strife are sown the seeds that on other days, on other fields will bear the fruits of victory.” – Douglas MacArthur Go Raiders! Sow the seeds and bear the fruits of victory.
Gary was an Air Force Academy graduate, a decorated Vietnam veteran, a caring father, an ordained minister, and a successful stockbroker. He was actively involved in his family, community and church. He actively won souls for Christ through his actions, his prison ministry, and his mentoring to countless middle and high school students. Gary’s favorite things in life were God’s Word, Sandi, his family, church activities, good food, beach vacations, Christmas lights, coaching youth sports, work and volunteering for whatever Walton football would let him. Gary not only invested in the stock market but, more importantly, in people throughout his life. Gary will be deeply missed in this world, but has begun bigger and better plans with God. “Take your time...don’t live too fast Troubles will come and they will pass You’ll find a woman and you’ll find love And don’t forget, son, there is someone up above Be a simple kind of man Be something you love and understand... Forget your lust for the rich man’s gold All that you need is in your soul Don’t you worry, you’ll find yourself Follow your heart and nothing else And you can do this, if you try All that I want for you, my son, is to be satisfied”
