The majority of respondents joined the IPM, to keep upto-date with industry news. Generally, the response indicated that members wanted to see more communications, in order to understand what was on offer. They wanted to see more research reports, training/masterclasses, news/bulletins, qualifications and Government lobbying. When asked about CPD, the majority indicated that it was neither important nor unimportant. As the IPM website is under redevelopment, there were also a number of questions around what members valued about the website and where improvements could be made. Industry news, research findings, conferences/events and membership benefits, were the key content areas respondents indicated they wanted to see more of. 25. What do you like about IPM membership?
Connectivity. Professionalism. Credibility in being part of an industry association Just the right amount of info, not spamming with articles all the time Really good insight into the industry Its evidence based approach Provision of information about other towns and access to research and consultancy Great resources Prof Cathy Parker Dissemination of information. Knowledge of the team. Access to case studies and industry reading. Friendliness Relevant to town centre regeneration It has brought me into contact with others with similar goals The information it provides Newsletter The smart people I get to meet The sheer quality of the content Informed The possibility of bring together those involved and interested in Place Management from different backgrounds Good to be associated I like the idea. Being linked to a body that continues to be ahead of the game, (and always has been
from the start), in terms of understanding the key issues and actions around successful 'places'; holistically. And having access to and links with extremely clever people who really understand how places work and operate. Consistency of place management information The network. Hearing what members get up to. Understanding different opinions and viewpoints. Compact space for information Access to information in a timely manner recent developments and research in the industry Access to relevant research fields and results Access to a broad base of information on PM Access to place branding and management current information Is provided free as a member of NABMA Credibility, access to academic resources, networking. The breadth of information available Informative and relevant to current vocational pursuits Gives recognition to Place management skills. The information and being connected with others of similar career training.
26. What do you not like about IPM membership?
Nothing x11 responses Too UK centric x5 responses It looks I am the only member from Nigeria. I wish we have a Branch in a Nigerian University I can't think of something except from more research reports maybe Job vacancies would be useful My lack of time to take full benefit of what it offers Not enough time at work to make full use of available resources Being an overseas member lack international news and events. Difficulty finding way around website. Would like opportunity of more partnership working Perhaps too little opportunity for those of us who generally work alone to network effectively Creating time to digest the information
Lack of interaction Not enough current info I wish I had more time to engage with IPM the onerous CPD requirements as a condition for membership renewal Can be very academic in approach I like to read whatever I can get hold of but don’t have the time to focus on CPD points and doubtful about its value. Comms have been a bit erratic, but seems to be getting better That I haven’t found time to get more engaged to be honest Needs to encourage o/seas chapters Not well recognised in industry

28. Is there anything you would like to see which you feel would improve IPM’s membership offer which has not already been mentioned?
No x30 responses A scaled fee for a non-UK member would be appreciated. Offering members to update their preferences in terms of content, more frequently. More international news and collaboration with international place making, management and branding Organisations Local networking opportunities Depending on geographic membership, could there be meetings e.g. 4/6 months to bring people together to stimulate discussion and support Just funny, that 'consultancy' was mentioned twice. Freudian slip? Please remain independent and don't start competing with consultants. Maybe a review of how information is disseminated; ie simplifying the different forms of communication, offering suggestions about, if I have limited time, which of the various information streams should I prioritise. More involvement from members. Assist affiliates in other countries to get together at a social/ education event in that country or state. More pro-active comms, increased brand awareness to increase value of my membership & qualification in the professional community
