FROM THE TOWER TO THE CUBE YEAR 2 PROJECT SPECIFICS: The project is to design a 5m cube house for two writers on a sloping site. It consists of living, kitchen and dining spaces, a bathroom on the ground level and bedroom and writing space on a mezzanine level. CONCEPT: Linking both levels with a double height bookshelf, accessible from each space in the house and playing a structural role as a furniture unit. The task is to create a structural paper model of the house and to record the whole process. In order to understand the structure we had a small task to create a paper tower before the essential project was given.

In order to understand the idea and importance of the terraced houses a study trip in the Netherlands was organized so we could explore the high density of the different Dutch towns. This example is part of a group measured drawing exercise Each student is required to provide a 1:20 detailed hand drawn facade of a terraced house in Delft. When drawn we put them all together to form the existing street.

Primary School Project Year: 2 Location: Edinburgh, United Kingdom he site is part of the Edinburgh’s UNESCO heritage. It lays on two streets, where the South side is lined with a historical stone wall so all the views from South are blocked. he idea is to separate the complex brief in three ‘blocks’ - Study, Administration and Sport. Following the lines of the streets I create a complex order of concrete spaces connected with bridges and covered with semi-transparent glass. In that way I create a contrast between function, material and light.

STUDENT ACCOMMODATION & LIBRARY YEAR 3 LOCATION: St Andrews, United Kingdom The task is to create a student complex with 24-36 rooms organised in latshares. In addition to this was planned as well a public element - a Library. The building is spread into three main parts. The library is placed on the South side acting as an entrance to the complex. it is linked to the residential tower on the North side via the half-digged gallery space, bar & dinner, which functions as a piazza for outdoor cinema and performances. In that order I create a variety of public and private spaces and level changes.

Edinburgh Measured Drawing Year 3 A group study of Edinburgh’s landscape, requiring measures of part of the city’s UNESCO heritage area through a section line. We separated that line in parts and then put the drawings together, synchronizing the lineweights etc. Edinburgh is a city of hills and it was a huge challenge to work on such landscape.
