OUR FACILITIES York St John University has invested heavily in the development of three specialist computing labs. These have access to industry-standard software and a range of hardware for experimenting. There is also access to training in specialist equipment. All of our teaching staff are qualified to PhD level and are active within the industry. Class sizes are kept intentionally small, so staff can better understand the particular learning needs of each student as an individual.

INSPIRING TRIPS Each year Computer Science, Software Engineering and Games Development students are offered the opportunity to visit the world-famous Bletchley Park. Bletchley Park, as immortalised in the film The Imitation Game, was the home of the British code breakers who cracked the Enigma and Lorenz ciphers in the Second World War. Our students visit this site, learn about code breaking and engage in challenges and puzzles to test and develop their skills in this field.

COMPUTER SCIENCE CAREER OPTIONS INCLUDE SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT, NETWORKS ENGINEERING AND CYBER SECURITY.

I always knew that I wanted to study Computer Science, ever since I was a kid. I loved computers, and technology, so I ended up doing Computer Science at college and I knew the next logical step for me was to study it at university. Moving from college to university was quite a smooth transition and I think it was due to the course sizes. There aren’t hundreds of people in the classes, which makes it quite nice to be able throw yourself into university life here. Here at York St John it just seems to feel like a great environment where you get to not only know your lecturers but actually get to work with them as well.
