Counselling & Mental Health BA (Hons) Learn from experienced counselling and coaching staff and help people to make positive personal change. We have over 30 years’ experience of teaching the theory and practice of counselling. Working with us, you’ll develop the professional skills you need to succeed in this field. You can make a real difference to people’s lives. On our Counselling and Mental Health programme you’ll learn to help people in a range of settings. This also allows you to build a professional network that you can draw on after your degree. We’ll help you discover your ambitions and open doors to a variety of job roles or further study. Our alumni are working in counselling, education, social work, probation and mental health nursing. They’ve also gone on to study at Postgraduate level for their master’s and PhD.
This programme includes a Level 5 integrated award from the Chartered Management Institute.
I had always wanted to study on a course that allowed me to help people and Counselling & Mental Health is perfect for this. The course is so diverse within the modules it teaches that it opens a lot of potential career paths. I have really enjoyed the placement modules. They allowed me to find something that I truly love doing and could picture myself pursuing as a career. I also really enjoyed the research methods module and dissertation because I could pick a topic I was extremely interested in. The fact that York St John is a small, community-based university was hugely appealing as it felt it more of a journey together. The highlight of my time at York St John has definitely being the people I have met - students and lecturers, but also the amazing people I have met throughout three years of placements.
