Creative Writing

• Be part of York Centre for Writing. Here you’ll develop your own creative writing within a lively community of writers producing innovative new work in the city, with ties to independent publishing houses in the region.

• Gain professional experience through our Working with Words module. You’ll work in a team to edit, design, publish, launch and promote our anthology of student work: Beyond the Walls.

• Our teaching team includes award winning writers with expertise in many different forms and genres of writing.

• Our links with the wider literary community mean your learning will be enhanced and your network expanded through visits from industry professionals and innovators, including agents, publishers and literary activists.

Design

• Apply your design skills to real industry contexts. You’ll have opportunities to work with clients on live briefs, enter design competitions to showcase your work, and hear from visiting guest speakers.

• Choose a course that can lead to careers such as software testing, visual effects (VFX), multimedia programming, interior design, product or furniture design, and visual merchandising. Recent York St John graduates are working in organisations such as Umbro, Kiddicare, Priestman Goode, Nike and Aston Martin.

• Exhibit your work at our annual Degree Show. This is the perfect way to show off your skills and build a professional network.
