DOUBLE-SKINS Thermal project applied to a ‘‘1930’’ house. Deepening of the existing works in the context of the Solar Decathlon. Reflection on the insulation definition : from of a physical material which disturbs the wall hygrometry and reduces surfaces, to double-skins which act as thermal buffers and rearrange the uses. Work on construction details to seek the sublimation of the ordinary construction, and experiments on a true-scale prototype.

Mixed-use urban program study about proximity between collective housing and small-scale industry, at the border between PARIS and PANTIN (FR) : recycling and furniture manufacturing cooperative, to equip the flats and propose ephemeral structures creating social link on the docks and under the périf’. Typological and formal research to host this program, along with analysis of the physical constraints due to the périf’.

AUX CASES OĂ™ Design of store, public space and house in Bois Blancs, LILLE (FR), and definition of an hybrid program related to the site specificity. Its narrowness and the need to access the pedestrian bridge redefine the store : boxes alongside the public stairs are available 24/7 and can be used as a self-service grocery storee. Through the constructive approach, this specificity is expressed : between the concrete base, supporting the movements, and the concrete dwelling, a metallic structure stretches, supporting the activity.

RESEARCH ESSAY The main aim of structure is to cross a given span. Using small elements to do so often goes with economy. But this notion is large; how does it manifest itself? First, it can exist by matter, the architect adapting the design to it. Since medieval constructors until now, human ingenuity has been able to use the timber as it is. Reciprocity, unintentional first then fully understood, shows this evolution. Then, economy of matter has appeared along with structural calculation and metal. Geometry, both of geodesic domes and reticular structures allows reaching a certain optimization of such structures. Nevertheless, joinery in those cases can be complex, diminishing the economic aspect.

LE RICOLAIS, Robert. Reticular structure, model, around 1935

Eventually, the economy seems to arise from assembling. Its disappearance toward a simple putting-up construction, such in formal reciprocity, is its result. But in this case, the cultural know-how question is forgotten. PIZZIGONI, Attilio. Reciprocal structure, model, around 2010

HANSAVIERTEL Case study of the residential building conceived by Alvar Aalto in the Hansaviertel district of BERLIN (DE), in 1957. Design of documents which demonstrate the analysis of the architect intentions : flats as patio houses, entry sequence, etc.

GYMNASIUM Design of a gymnasium by rehabilitation of an old telephony servers center in BARCELONA (ES). The approach toward the existing relies on the grid. It serves the program repartition and defines the circulation : the central longitudinal frame hosts the triple height distribution. Technically, the idea is to value this grid, to highlight it. So the sliding or movable partitions and the windows follow the existing structure rhythm.

TOWER Design of an office tower in BARCELONA (ES). Implementation of the school philosophy, based on construction details. A faceted concrete surface covered with the Barcelona ‘‘panots’’ is included in the existing public space. The design of a ideally slopping solar facade gives the tower its profile, which links the big scale of the Diagonal avenue with the smaller scale of the Numància street.

SIDEBOARD Making of a sideboard by the reuse of wooden pallet planks and wooden strips initially dedicated to waste. After disassembling the pallets, the planks are measured, stored and referenced on computer. Thank to this, the cutting blueprints are optimized to avoid scraps. The square-section strips allow simple assemblies, with only junction and screws.

SIDEBOARD Order-based design and making of a sideboard, by the reuse of wooden pallet planks and plywood boards picked up after an exhibition.

LOW TABLE Order-based design and making of a low table. Various wooden pallet planks are reused and planned in order to be standardized. The table top has a herringbone pattern with central symmetry and alternating shades. The lightest planks are laser engraved with a traditional Norwegian inspired pattern.
