SENATOR JOHN KELLY Senator John Kelly was born and brought up in Rath, Ballintubber and has lived and worked in Ballaghaderreen for over 24 years. He attended Scoil Bride's National School Ballintubber and CBS Roscommon. John is the son of Mary and of the late Kevin Kelly. He is married to Brid, who teaches in the Community School in Castlerea, and they have three children, Amy, Darragh and Ronan. Having worked as the Community Welfare Officer in the Ballaghaderreen and Castlerea area for 24 years, John is deeply rooted in the local community and is acutely aware of the needs of local families. As a longstanding community activist, John contested the 2007 general election, and topped the poll in the 2009 local elections. John was elected to Seanad Eireann in 2011 where he has campaigned on services for rural Ireland. John has always been actively involved in fundraising for local and national organisations and has personally raised over â‚Ź70,000 for the Irish Wheelchair Association. An avid Roscommon GAA supporter, John has played both football and hurling for Oran GAA. He has also played soccer with Ballintubber and is a strong supporter of local sporting clubs across Roscommon.

John understands the challenges facing local and small businesses across families Roscommon-South Leitrim. He has been a very active Senator and has campaigned, in particular, on a range of issues affecting rural communities and farming families. I am asking you to vote Number 1 for John Kelly to elect a TD who will strengthen the Labour team in government and who will work relentlessly to deliver economic and social recovery for his local community.

Local people must be able to start to feel the recovery in their pockets and in their everyday lives. The Live Register is dropping in Roscommon-South Leitrim but the unemployment rate is still too high. I will work with Tánaiste Joan Burton on delivering more jobs and investment for our local area. I will also work with my Labour colleagues Rural Affairs Minister Ann Phelan, Employment and Business Minister Ged Nash and Communications Minister Alex White on key services for rural communities and businesses including broadband and rural transport.
I have lived and worked all my life in Roscommon, and if elected as your TD there is nobody who will fight harder for the people of Roscommon-South Leitrim. There are encouraging signs that the economy is picking up. But I want to see more job creation and investment in Roscommon-South Leitrim. I will work tirelessly with Tánaiste Joan Burton on the creation of decent, sustainable local jobs and I am committed to supporting sustainable rural communities. I will also work with my Labour Party colleagues in government to ensure that medical cards are provided for those who need them most. As your TD, I will use my position to call for the establishment of an independent beef regulator. Given my experience as a Senator, if elected I will hit the ground running and be an active and efficient TD from day one. I have a strong track-record of working on behalf of the people of Roscommon-South Leitrim and I am asking for your Number 1 vote to continue that work in Dail Eireann.

I am campaigning for new schools for the local area and will actively work with Labour Minister Jan O’Sullivan to deliver much needed education facilities for Roscommon-South Leitrim.
PROTECTING THE RURAL ENVIRONMENT I have been at the forefront of a number of national and local campaigns on the rural environment, for example, on pylons and windfarms. If elected as your local TD, I will work with my colleague Labour Environment Minister Alan Kelly on key issues on protecting our rural environment.
