€125,000 FOR BALDOYLE AND BAYSIDE The Draft Programme of works for the local area was recently passed by councillors. Included in the plan was €55,000 for Path repairs in Baldoyle, with work planned for the following locations: ■ College Street (from Willie Nolan Road to Dublin Street)
■ Grange Park
■ Marian Park
■ Baldoyle Road (from St. Dominick's Well to Elphin Public House)
■ Brookstone Road
■ Railway Avenue
■ Grange Road
■ Parkvale Extension
Work is also planned for Bayside and Sutton. A further €32,000 will be spent in Bayside and Sutton including: ■ Alden Road ■ Alden Park ■ Alden Drive ■ Sarto Road ■ Verbena Lawns ■ Glencarraig ■ Church Road Normal path repairs will also take place outside this programme. Other works for the area will include speed readers for Station road, drainage improvements for the coast road to Portmarnock and on the Grange Road totalling a further €37,000.

With planned investment in trees and parks for Baldoyle, Sutton and Bayside, the total planned works will be over €200,000.

OLD DEPOT SITE TO GO TO BOXING CLUB The Council has proposed to pass the Old Depot site in Seagrange Park for the adaptation and use of Baldoyle Boxing club. I know that antisocial behaviour at the Depot site has been a cause of concern for residents for some time. The Boxing Club was selected after the council invited applications from a number of organisations to make submissions and proposals. The Boxing club prepared a strong submission and the council will be asked to approve the Transfer shortly. I think it is great news that the site will be put to good use and that the Boxing Club will have their badly needed facility at last.
BALDOYLE PORTMARNOCK CYCLEPATH NEWS We are a step closer to the long awaited provision of a connecting path and suitable cycleway between Portmarnock and Baldoyle along the coast road. The planning Department recently put their preliminary plans on display in Baldoyle Library, and they are expected to have plans completed and be ready to go to an Bord Pleanala in March. The plan is for a cycle path and pedestrian walkway on the land side of the coast road which will then continue all the way to Swords through Portmarnock and Malahide. The Baldoyle to Portmarnock Coast road is currently one of the worst roads for pedestrians and cyclists in Fingal, particularly considering how busy the road is. Development of the cycle and walkway is complicated by the fact that Baldoyle estuary is a special area of conservation and any changes need to be agreed with the National Parks and Wildlife services. I welcome the fact that the Planning Department are ready to proceed to the next step. Once the planning has been completed we can look to secure full funding either from national government or through the council. The overall plan is to connect with the Sutton to Sandycove Cycle route and on up the coast to Donabate.
