En nombre del Comité Ejecutivo de la Alianza Latinoamericana y del Caribe de YMCAs, les damos la más cordial bienvenida a los y las más de 55 delegados de los 15 Movimientos Nacionales que nos acompañan en la Conferencia Anual y Reunión Presencial del Comité Ejecutivo Aruba 2015.
On behalf of the Executive Committee of the Latin American and Caribbean Alliance of YMCAs, we would like to extend a warm welcome to the more than 55 delegates from 15 National Movements attending the Annual Conference and Meeting of the Executive Committee Aruba 2015.

También es un momento de reflexión sobre los retos que enfrenta América Latina y el Caribe y pensar como podemos dar respuestas innovadoras a los temas sociales más críticos en la región.
It is also time to reflect on the challenges facing Latin America and the Caribbean and think how we can provide innovative responses to some of the most pressing social issues in the region.
Nuestras conversaciones y trabajo colectivo nos permitirán orientar de manera participativa el futuro que deseamos para nuestra querida organización de área. Bajo el tema “LA YMCA QUE QUEREMOS”, la conferencia nos invita a soñar en el futuro que deseamos para los 28 países en los que tenemos presencia y juntos construir un modelo de Asociación que sea relevante y sostenible, principalmente con y para los y las jóvenes.
Our conversations and collective work will guide, on a participatory way, the future of our area organization. Under the theme: “THE YMCA WE WANT”, the conference invites us to dream of the future we want for the 28 countries where we work, and together build a relevant, sustainable model for our organization; with and for the young people.

HOTEL El Hotel Tamarijn, en Oranjestad, Aruba, será el corazón de la conferencia. El hotel se encuentra localizado en una hermosa playa de la ciudad del oeste de Oranjestad y cuenta con el concepto todo incluido donde podrá disfrutar de más de 9 restaurantes, 7 bares, gimnasio, actividades recreativas y entretenimiento nocturno en vivo. La cadena de hoteles Divi & Tamarijn Aruba son un socio estratégico de YMCA Aruba. El hotel promueve el trabajo de la Asociación e invita a todos sus huéspedes a lo largo del año a hacer un donativo de USD $1 por cada noche de estancia para apoyar los programas de la YMCA. Registration Fee is USD $350 per person and can be paid in cash during registration on May 12 . Delegates may opt to advance their registration fee via wire transfer to the to the bank account of YMCA Aruba. Please contact Nathaly Harms to request bank account information at nathaly@arubaymca.com. All transfers must be initiated by Monday, May 11th (please bring copy of your wire transfer confirmation). Otherwise we recommend paying in cash at the conference site. Registration fee includes: transportation airport-hotel-airport on May 11th, 12th, 17th, conference materials, cultural activities included in the conference program, tour of Aruba and visit to YMCA programs. HOTEL The Tamarijn Hotel in Orajenstad, Aruba, is the headquarters hotel for the Conference. The hotel is located in on a beautiful beach in Oranjestad West. An all-inclusive resort with 9 dining options, 7 bars, gym, recreational activities and live nightly entertainment. Divi & Tamarijn Resorts are strategic partner of YMCA of Aruba. The hotel promotes the work of the Y and invites all guests throughout the year to add $1 per night to support the work of the YMCA. All delegates will be staying at the Tamarijn Hotel and the Tamarijn Garden Suites. The hotel offers internal shuttle service within the resort. The hotel will provide additional vehicles during the conference dates for delegates’ comfort. ORADORES INVITADOS MIERCOLES 13 DE MAYO Su Excelencia Michiel Godfried Eman, Primer Ministro de Aruba. Michiel Godfried Eman (nacido el 1 de septiembre de 1961) es el quinto Primer Ministro de Aruba y el líder del Partido Popular de Aruba (AVP). Su carrera política comenzó en 2001, aunque ha estado involucrado en la política desde su infancia. Su abuelo, padre y hermano tuvieron destacadas carreras políticas en su época, con Henny Eman precediéndole (dos veces) como Primer Ministro de Aruba. El Ministro Eman se graduó de la Universidad de las Antillas Neerlandesas donde obtuvo su título de abogado en 1992 con una tesis titulada “La posición de la Institución del Ministerio Público vis à vis el Ministro de Justicia en una comunidad a pequeña escala”. En el año 1996 obtuvo una licenciatura en Derecho Notarial de la misma Universidad. Entre 1992 a 2001, trabajó como notario de derecho civil y co-fundó varias empresas comerciales privadas y fundaciones de estudios políticos. En 2003, Michiel Eman fue elegido líder del AVP y después de las elecciones de 2005, el Ministro Eman obtuvo el voto de de facto en las elecciones con más del 12% de los votos a su nombre. Eman juró su cargo el 30 de octubre de 2009. Honorable Paul Croes, Ministro de Asuntos Sociales, Políticas Juveniles y Empleo de Aruba Paul Croes nació el 7 de Noviembre de 1976 en Aruba. El Ministro Croes estudio Ciencias Políticas en la Universidad de Ámsterdam donde se especializo en Relaciones Internacionales, Política y Economía Internacional. Después de su graduación regreso a Aruba para unirse al Departamento de Relaciones Exteriores de Aruba. El Ministro Croes también tuvo el honor de servir como Presidente del Parlamento de Aruba. El máximo órgano de gobierno del país. El Ministro Croes es una persona amable y simple. Una persona que le gusta trabajar y ser perfeccionista. Actualmente es miembro del Kiwanis Club de Palm Beach. Sacha Z. Geerman, M.A. Sacha Geerman trabaja actualmente como asesora de políticas para el Departamento de Asuntos Social de Aruba. Antes de asumir este cargo, ella trabajo para la Facultad de Artes y Ciencias de la Universidad de Aruba como docente de medio tiempo en el programa de Trabajo Social y Desarrollo. Ella obtuvo un grado de Maestría en Trabajo Social y Desarrollo en la Universidad de Aruba y una licenciatura en “Sociall Pegagogisch Hulpverlening” en la Hogeschool Rotterdam & Omstreken. Roderick (Ricky) A. Hoek Roderick (Ricky) Hoek es el Director de la Asociación de Trabajo de Juventud en Aruba “Asociacion Trabajo di Hubentud na Aruba” (A.T.H.A.). Ricky trabaja para el desarrollo positive y beneficio de los y las jovenes en Aruba. Previo a trabajar para la A.T.H.A., el trabajó para la Comisión Nacional de los Derechos de los Niños. Obtuvo una maestría en Trabajo Social y Desarrollo por la Universidad de Aruba y una Licenciatura en Cultural y Desarrollo Social en el Fontys Hogescholen Eindhoven.
VIERNES 15 DE MAYO Panel “La situación de los y las Jóvenes en Aruba” Roy Mezas, M.A. Roy Mezas es el Director Ejecutivo de Harmony in Motion Consultancy & Training. Realizó estudios en la reforma de sistemas educativos en la Universidad Libre de Amsterdam y se especializó en reforma de sistemas educativos y diseño curricular. Antes de asumir el cargo como Director Ejecutivo de Harmony in Motion, Roy fue un líder muy active en el campo de la reforma educativa en los Países Bajos. También fue el director de un distrito escolar muy grande en el norte de Holanda. Dr. Ryan Peterson Dr. Ryan R. Peterson es originario de Aruba y profesor de capacidades institucionales para la innovación de islas en la Universidad de Aruba. También es Presidente investigador de la UNESCO en Desarrollo Sostenible y Presidente del Consejo Nacional para la Innovación y la Competitividad de Aruba. Antes de su cargo actual, era el director de la facultad de turismo y negocios internacionales de la Universidad de Aruba. El Profesor Peterson obtuvo su Doctorado en Economía y Gobierno por la Universidad de Tilburg en los Países Bajos y ha escrito más de cien artículos científicos y de negocios. Tiene más de 20 años de experiencia internacional y es investigador, asesor, consultor y gestor de proyectos de diversas industrias. Actualmente su trabajo se enfoca en la innovación y desarrollo de (pequeñas) islas en recuperación a través del fortalecimiento de capacidades institucionales y políticas económicas, sociales y ambientales con un enfoque específico en la innovación basada en el conocimiento de los sectores públicos y privados en el Caribe.
INVITADOS HONORABLES Honorable Otmar Enrique Oduber, Ministro de Turismo, Transporte, Sector Primario y Cultura de Aruba. El Ministro Oduber nació y creció en Aruba. Juró como Ministro de Turismo, Transporte, Sector Primario y Cultura de Aruba en Noviembre de 2009 después de una trayectoria exitosa en el gobierno. El Ministro Oduber se graduó de la Universidad Internacional Florida donde obtuvo una Licenciatura en Administración de la Hospitalidad en 1995. Antes de unirse al sector público, el posiciones de gerencia en Aerolíneas Antillanas en Miami, Florida, y el Hotel Americana en Aruba. Honorable Mike de Meza, Ministro de Finanzas, Comunicaciones, Utilidades y Energía de Aruba. El Ministro de Meza nació el 13 de mayo de 1963 en Curazao. Estudió Ingeniería en Química y Procesos Tecnológicos y también realizó estudios en Calidad de Gestión Total en los Países Bajos. La mayor parte de su carrera ocupo posiciones de gerencia en Estados Unidos, Holanda y Aruba. El Ministro fue miembro del Parlamento de Aruba de 2005 a 2009. Desde el año 2009 ocupa el cargo de Ministro de Finanzas, Comunicaciones, Utilidades y Energía de Aruba.
GUEST SPEAKERS WEDNESDAY MAY 13TH His Excelency Michiel Godfried Eman, Prime Minister of Aruba Michiel Godfried Eman (born September 1, 1961) is the 5th Prime Minister of Aruba and the current leader of the Aruban People’s Party (AVP). His political career began in 2001, but Mr. Eman has been involved in politics in one way or another since his childhood. His grandfather, father and brother were all prominent politicians in their time, with Henny Eman having preceded him in service (twice) as Prime Minister of Aruba. Minister Eman is a graduate of the University of the Netherlands Antilles earning his law degree in 1992 with a thesis entitled “The Position of the Institution of the Public Prosecutor vis à vis the Minister of Justice in a Small Scale Community”. In 1996, he earned a degree in Civil Notary Law from the same University. From 1992 to 2001, Mr. Eman worked as a civil law notary and co-founded several private commercial ventures and foundations for political studies. Minister Eman was elected leader of the AVP in 2003 and emerged in 2005 as the de facto vote getter of the elections, with more than 12% of the votes to his name. Mr. Eman was sworn in October 30, 2009. Honorable Pauldrick F. Croes, Minister of Social Affairs, Youth Policy & Labor at Government of Aruba th Paul Croes was born on November 7 , 1976 in Aruba. Minister Croes studied Political Sciences at the University of Amsterdam and specialized in International Relations, Politics, and International Economy. He returned to Aruba after graduation and joined the Department of Foreign Affairs of Aruba. Minister Croes also had the honor to serve as President of the Parliament of Aruba. The highest government body in the country. Minister Croes is a kind and simple person. He likes to work and perfectionist. Currently he is a member of the Kiwanis Club of Palm Beach. Sacha Z. Geerman, M.A. Sacha Geerman is currently the policy advisor for the Department of Social Affairs of Aruba. Prior to joining the Department of Social Affairs, she worked for the Faculty of Arts and Sciences of the University of Aruba as part-time lecturer for the bachelor program Social Work & Development. She earned a Masters in Social Work and Development at the University of Aruba and a Bachelors Degree in “Sociall Pegagogisch Hulpverlening” at the Hogeschool Rotterdam & Omstreken. Roderick (Ricky) A. Hoek Roderick (Ricky) Hoek is the Director of the Asociacion Trabajo di Hubentud na Aruba (A.T.H.A.). Ricky works for the benefit and positive development of youth in Aruba. Prior to joining A.T.H.A, he worked for the National Commission for protection of Child Rights. He earned a Masters in Social Work & Development at the University of Aruba and a Bachelors in Cultural and Social Development at the Fontys Hogescholen Eindhoven.
FRIDAY MAY 15TH Panel “Youth in Aruba� Roy Mezas, M.A. Roy Mezas is the Managing Director for Harmony in Motion Consultancy & Training. He studied Educational Systems Reform at the Free University Amsterdam and specialized in Educational Systems Reform and Curriculum Development. Before he was appointed Managing Director of Harmony in Motion, Roy was an active leader in the Netherlands in the field of Education Reform. He was also the Director of a very large school district in North Holland.
Prof. Dr. Ryan R. Peterson Dr. Ryan R. Peterson is an Aruban native and full professor of institutional capabilities for island innovation at the University of Aruba. He holds a UNESCO research chair in Sustainable Development and he is also the President of the National Council for Innovation & Competitiveness of Aruba. Previously, he was the Dean of the Faculty of Tourism and International Business at the University of Aruba. Professor Peterson received his PhD in Economics & Governance from the University of Tilburg in the Netherlands and has written and published well over a hundred scientific and business articles. He has over twenty years of international experience and has worked as researcher, advisor, consultant, and project manager across dif ferent industries. His current work focuses on innovation and the development of (small) island state resilience by means of institutional capabilities, and economic, social and environmental policies, with a specific focus on knowledge-based innovation in public and private sectors in the Caribbean.

In November 2009 he was sworn in as the Minister of Tourism, Transport, Primary Sector and Culture at Government of Aruba following an outstanding eight-year career in the Government sector. Minister Oduber graduated from Florida International University in 1995 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Hospitality Management. Before joining the public sector, he held management positions in Antillean Airlines in Miami, Florida, and the Americana hotel in Aruba. Honorable Mike de Meza, Minister of Finance, Communication, Utilities and Energy at Government of Aruba. Minister de Meza was born on May 13, 1963, in Curacao. He studied Engineer in Chemical and Process Technology and also Total Quality Management in the Netherlands. Most of his professional experience includes managerial positions in the USA, the Netherlands, and Aruba. Minister de Meza was the member of the Parliament of Aruba between 2005 and 2009. Since 2009, he has been the Minister of Finance, Communication, Utilities and Energy.

TALLERES Los talleres tienen como principal objetivo compartir experiencias, buenas prácticas y abordajes innovadores que ayuden a potencializar el trabajo de las YMCAs en la región. Todos los talleres son facilitados por experimentados voluntarios y profesionales de las YMCAs de la región. Los talleres tendrán lugar el día jueves 14 de mayo a las 9:00horas y se listan a continuación: Gobernanza Presentan: YMCA México & YMCA Uruguay Las YMCAs de México y Uruguay comparten sus experiencias y prácticas ejemplares reclutando, orientando, formando y evaluando dirigentes voluntarios, entre otras, para fortalecer la gobernanza de sus Asociaciones . Sistema de Gestión de Calidad Presentan: YMCA Bogotá & ACM Rio Grande do Sul Las YMCAs de Bogotá y Rio Grande do Sul comparten experiencias y conocimientos adquiridos en la implementación de Sistemas de Gestión de Calidad como práctica ejemplar para promover la sostenibilidad de sus Movimientos. Comunicaciones Presenta: Alianza Latinoamericana y del Caribe de YMCAs En este taller se presentarán los recursos y herramientas disponibles para las YMCAs para fortalecer el área de comunicaciones de su Asociación. Igualmente se compartirán ideas y mejores prácticas para comunicar impacto y posicionar a la Asociación en la comunidad.
WORKSHOPS Conference workshops aim at sharing experiences, best practices, and innovative approaches to enhance the work of the YMCA in the region. All workshops are facilitated by experienced volunteer and staff leaders from YMCAs in the region. Workshops will take place on Thursday, May th 14 at 9:00am. Topics are listed below: Governance Presenters: YMCA Mexico & YMCA Uruguay The YMCAs of Mexico and Uruguay share their experiences and best practices recruiting, orienting, developing, and evaluating volunteer leaders; strengthening the overall governance in their YMCAs. Quality Management System Presenters: YMCA Bogota & YMCA Rio Grande do Sul The YMCAs of Bogota and Rio Grande do Sul share their experiences and knowledge implementing Quality Management Systems as a best practices for their sustainability of their Movements. Communications Presenter: Latin American Alliance of YMCAs

This workshop will share tools and resources available for YMCAs to strengthen their communications. In addition, the presenters will introduce ideas and best practices to better communicate impact and position the YMCA in the community.

ETIQUETA Para el evento de bienvenida el día martes 12 de mayo y la recepción del orador invitado el miércoles 13 por la mañana se recomienda vestimenta tipo “ejecutivo casual” o “negocios sport”. Para todos los demás eventos se recomienda ropa cómoda y casual. Tome en cuenta que los salones de conferencias estarán climatizados con aire condicionado.
DRESS CODE The Dress Code is “Business Casual for the th opening on May 12 and the Keynote th Address the morning of May 13 . For all other activities dress casual and comfortably. Pease note that room temperature will be regulated with air conditioning.
PLENARIOS Todas las sesiones plenarias tendrán lugar en “Salón Alhambra”. ALIMENTOS Los y las delegados hospedados en los Hoteles Divi podrán acceder cualquiera de los restaurantes y bares disponibles en el resort. El restaurante más cercano al salón de plenarios y óptimo para los desayunos es el “Pelican Terrace” (desayunos buffet). Todos los almuerzos (comidas) durante la conferencia se servirán en el restaurante “Red Parrot” (tipo buffet). La cena de bienvenida el día martes 12 se servirá en el Salón Alhambra. La cena del día jueves 13 está incluida en el tour. Las demás cenas son libres. Para los restaurantes con cena a la carta (incluidas) el hotel recomienda hacer reservación previa. El personal del hotel les orientará y asistirá para elegir restaurante y reservar. Se recomienda hacer su reservación después de las 19:30 horas para que el programa no interfiera con su reservación. PLENARIES All plenary sessions will take place at the Alhambra Ballroom. MEALS Delegates staying at the Divi Hotels have full use of all restaurants and bars of both resorts. The nearest restaurant to the main conference room and recommended for breakfast is the “Pelican Terrace” (buffet). Lunch will be served at the “Red Parrot” restaurant for convenience of the YMCA group. th
Opening dinner on Tuesday, May 12 will be served at the Alhambra Ballroom. Dinner on th Thursday, May 13 is included in the tour. All other dinners are free. For a la carte restaurants (included), the hotel recommends reserving in advance. A guest services representative will guide and assist all delegates upon arrival and help them select and book their tables. It is recommended to reserve after 7:30pm to avoid any conflicts with the conference program. PHOTO AND VIDEO DURING THE EVENT We’ll create a photographic and video record of the event. Languages: In Aruba prevails multilingualism. The majority of the population speaks more than four languages (Dutch, Spanish, English and Papiamento). Its official languages are Dutch and Papiamento.

Drinking water: Aruba’s drinking water flows from the world’s second largest desalinization plan and it is safe to drink. The electrical current in Aruba is 110 volts (60 cycles). It is identical to that utilized in the USA. Delegates from countries with different electrical systems need adapters.
