ANTECEDENTES BACKGROUND
El 19 de septiembre de 2017 a las 13:40:40 pm ocurrió un sismo de magnitud 7.1 en la escala de Richter con epicentro en la latitud 18.40 norte, longitud 98.72 oeste, a una profundidad de 57 kilómetros, a 120 kilómetros de la Ciudad de México. La Secretaría de Gobernación de México confirmó la muerte de 369 personas, así como el censo de 15,704 viviendas con daños menores, parciales o totales principalmente en la Ciudad de México y el estado de Morelos. YMCA México inmediatamente estableció un comité de emergencia y desplegó un equipo de coordinación y respuesta para dar atención inmediata a los individuos, familias y comunidades que resultaron afectadas. Desde el 19 de septiembre, YMCA México ha mantenido una ayuda constante a las familias afectadas. YMCA México es parte integral de las comunidades donde trabaja y cuenta con la experiencia, relaciones y capacidad para dar una respuesta efectiva durante la crisis. On September 19, 2017, a powerful earthquake of magnitude of 7.1 degrees on Richter scale occurred exactly at 13:14:40, had its epicenter at latitude 18.40 north, longitude 98.72 west, at a depth of 57 kilometers, and at a distance of 120 kilometers from Mexico City. The Mexican Secretariat of Interior confirmed 369 deaths, as well as 15,704 buildings partially or totally damaged, mostly in Mexico City and the state of Morelos. YMCA Mexico immediately convened a committee and deployed a coordination and response team to provide immediate care and assistance to affected individuals, families, and communities. Since September 19, YMCA Mexico has provided continuous support to affected families. YMCA Mexico is a vital part of the communities in which it operates and has the expertise, relationships, and capacity to provide an effective response during the crisis.
NUESTRA RESPUESTA OUR RESPONSE
El comité de emergencia de YMCA México realizó un diagnóstico de la situación y definió una intervención de corto y mediano plazo.
After assessing the situation, the emergency committee of YMCA Mexico defined a short and medium-term response.
Corto Plazo. Brindar atención inmediata a la población afectada a través de las siguientes acciones:
Short term. Provide immediate care and support to affected communities by:
- Garantizar que los usuarios, estudiantes, beneficiarios, voluntarios y personal se encontraran a salvo y seguros. - Establecer Centros de Acopio en todas las sedes. - Establecer Centros de Distribución de víveres. - Brindar atención psicológica a los damnificados. - Organizar brigadistas de voluntarios para atender la emergencia. - Habilitar centro de descanso para los brigadistas.
- Ensure that YMCA members, students, beneficiaries, volunteers, and staff were all safe. - Set-up donation centers to collect and mobilize emergency supplies and in-kind donations in all YMCA Centers. - Establish centers to distribute emergency supplies. - Provide psychological support for the families impacted. - Organize and support volunteer brigades during the emergency. - Offer respite centers for volunteers, rescue workers, and affected community members.
Mediano Plazo. Coadyuvar en la mejora de la calidad de vida de 195 damnificados de la Ciudad de México y el estado de Morelos durante un período de 16 meses. - Prevenir la deserción escolar de 7 estudiantes de la Universidad YMCA que fueron afectados por el sismo. - Reducir la condición de vulnerabilidad de al menos 3 familias de los menores participantes del programa de la Casa YMCA para Becarios de Camohmila que sufrieron daños o perdieron su casa a través de la reparación o reconstrucción de viviendas. - Fortalecer la vinculación comunitaria en la sede Miguel Ángel de la Universidad YMCA a través de atención psicológica, recreativa y actividad física para 181 niños, jóvenes y adultos afectados.
Medium-term. Improve the quality of life of 195 affected individuals in Mexico City and the state of Morelos for 16 months. - Support 7 students from the YMCA University experiencing economic hardship due to the natural disaster and prevent students from dropping out. - Reduce the vulnerability of at least 3 rural families who have kids participating in the YMCA Scholarship program and whose homes were damaged or destroyed by repairing or rebuilding their homes. - Strengthen the YMCA’s community outreach at the Miguel Angel campus of the YMCA University by providing psico-social support, as well as physical and recreational activities to 181 children, youth, adults, impacted.
RESULTADOS FASE DE ATENCIÓN INMEDIATA EMERGENCY PHASE RESULTS
- Las sedes Atizapán, Ejército, Iztacalco, León, Mallorca, Naucalpan, Sur y Torreón de la YMCA funcionaron como centros de acopio. Se recibieron más de 56 toneladas de víveres. - Se distribuyeron 2,454 despensas, así como ropa, kits médicos, artículos de higiene personal y artículos de limpieza beneficiando directamente a 315 familias. - El campamento Camohmila funcionó como centro de distribución para el estado de Morelos y en la Ciudad de México se entregaron apoyos a la Cruz Roja y otros organismos cercanos a las comunidades afectadas. - Se movilizaron 139 voluntarios quienes realizaron 1,137 horas de trabajo. - Se brindó espacio de oficina y apoyo logístico a Fondo Unido México cuyas oficinas resultaron afectadas por el sismo. - The YMCA Centers of Atizapan, Ejercito, Iztacalco, Leon, Mallorca, Naucalpan Sur, and Torreon functioned as collection centers for in-kind donations. More than 56 tons were collected. - The YMCA distributed 2,454 food pantries, as well as clothes, medical supplies, hygiene products, and cleaning supplies directly benefiting 315 families. - YMCA Camp Camohmila operated as distribution center for the state of Morelos and in Mexico City the YMCA delivered supplies to the Red Cross and other organizations closer to the affected communities. - The YMCA mobilized 139 volunteers who worked 1,137 hours. - Provided office space and logistical support to United Way Mexico which offices were affected by the earthquake.
