HISTORICAL CHAPELLE, PLAMONDON

The original church of Plamondon is also the oldest community building in the hamlet, built in 1911. At various times in its history, the charming non-denominational church has served as a place of worship, a health clinic, a school, a theatre, a community centre and a museum. Visitors are welcome to use the neighbouring park and pavilion for picnics, wintertime sledding and more.

The towering St. Isidore’s Church dominates the panoramic valley view as you approach Plamondon. The church and Catholic parish are named for St. Isidore, patron saint of farmers, and also in honour of Isidore Plamondon, a community pioneer. The church was built in 1928 in a distinctive French-Canadian style to replace what is now the Historical Chapelle.

AL KAREEM MOSQUE, LAC LA BICHE

Lac La Biche Region is home to Canada’s second-oldest mosque, which is also North America’s third-oldest. The region has one of the largest and oldest Muslim populations in all of Canada, with many Lebanese families settling in the area in the early 1900s. The mosque as you see it today was built in 1986. Public tours of the mosque can be arranged upon request.
