Swim Lessons

The purpose of the American Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety program is to teach individuals of different ages and abilities how to swim and be safe in, on and around the water. In a logical progression, the program covers the knowledge and skills needed for aquatic skill development. As participants develop these skills, they will become better swimmers. Our program features American Red Cross certified swim instructors who give personalized attention to each student. The preschool (Dolphin) classes strive for a 4:1 student to instructor ratio and a 5:1 ratio for our Level 1-6 Program. Aqua Babies; 6-24 months Develop a high comfort level in the water while at the same time training parents in water safety and drowning prevention. This class is a fun and confidence building experience. One parent must be in the water with each child. Swim diapers required. 8:1 student-to-instructor ratio. Aqua Tots; 24-36 months Students will learn to float, blow bubbles, put their face in the water independently and be introduced to deeper water. One parent must be in the water with each child. BASEBall, Softball & SLOWPITCH 7-11 yrs (age determined as of 7/30/2015)

The Baseball/Softball program is an instructional program for boys and girls 9-11 years old who are progressing from softpitch, as well as players not ready for live pitch baseball. This division uses a pitching machine to help kids make the transition to baseball and softball. The emphasis will be placed on participation and fun while focusing on skill development. Softpitch is designed as a co-ed introductory league for those progressing from T-ball into pitched ball for the first time using a pitching machine. The ball will travel slower to allow for more success. A great way to introduce the sport! Practices will be once or twice per week in the evenings. The season is based on a seven-game schedule with every effort to make up cancellations. Volunteer coaches are needed! If interested call 303-665-0469. REGISTRATION DEADLINE: Wednesday, 5/27. A $10.00 late fee will be charged to anyone who signs up after the registration deadline. Location: Local parks and schools. Youth Programs

Preschool

Lafayette Explorers Preschool For young children, meaningful and long lasting learning requires active thinking and experimenting to find out how things work. This is best accomplished through purposeful play facilitated by highly intentional teaching practices. THE GOALS OF OUR CURRICULUM The most important goal of our early childhood curriculum is to help children become enthusiastic learners and form friendships. This means encouraging children to be active and creative explorers who are not afraid to try out their ideas and to think their own thoughts. We strive to help children become independent, self-confident, inquisitive learners. We’re teaching them how to learn, not just in preschool, but also all through their lives. We provide opportunities for them to learn at their own pace and in the ways that are best for them.

SOCIAL:

to help children feel comfortable in school, trust their new environment, make friends, and feel they are a part of the group.

Emotional: to help children experience pride and self confidence, develop independence and

self-control, and form a positive attitude toward life.

Cognitive: to help children become confident learners by letting them try out their own ideas and

experience success, and by helping them acquire learning skills such as the ability to solve problems, ask questions, and use words to describe their ideas, observations, and feelings.

Physical:

to help children increase their large and small motor skills and feel confident about what their bodies can do.

e

t t e y a f a L

s r e r o l p Ex 34

The activities we plan for children, the way we organize the environment, select toys and materials, plan the daily schedule, and talk with children, are all designed to accomplish the goals of our curriculum and give the children a successful start in school.

go pacs (personal activity care supplies) Help us build our resource for assisting those in need. Lafayette GO! Services is building backpacks filled with personal care basics such as tooth brushes, tooth paste, shaving needs, shampoo, deodorant and other common daily care and safety products. Our plan is to build backpacks that will be available for our distribution to older adults in need due to homelessness or other unfortunate circumstances. The GO PACS are intended as a stop gap measure for Lafayette GO Services when there is a person(s) in need. Those who receive GO PACS will receive information on other community resources available to assist them. If you would like to donate new personal care items for this project, please drop items off at the GO! Center during business hours the week of April 1317th. Call 303-661-1492 for a list of needed items or for questions. Our goal is to complete 25 GO PACS. Thanks for helping us! Location: Lafayette GO! Center Code
