Love Your Lafayette!
My family and I always look forward to summertime in Lafayette – the parks, trails, pools, concerts, and festivals keep us active and on the go. This summer we are excited for the launch of the new Thursday night Lafayette Farmers Market. Not only will this weekly event offer more opportunities to enjoy our community and socialize with friends and neighbors, it will also provide us access to fresh, locally-grown produce from area farmers and ranchers. Join us each week to ensure our Lafayette market thrives. You can further support our farmers by becoming a Founding Member. Members will enjoy monthly market deals and admission to an end-of-season celebration. Visit bcfm.org for details.

The City of Lafayette is one of 11 cities selected nationwide to receive hands-on technical assistance to help reduce soft costs associated with solar installations, making solar more affordable for residents. Lafayette is committed to implementing best practices and processes in order to ensure the efficiency and expansion of renewable energy. The collaboration between the Lafayette Energy Sustainability Advisory Committee (LESAC) and the Community Development Department is a great testament to the value and importance the community holds for sustainable practices. There are so many reasons why Lafayette is such a wonderful place to live and be a part of. I’m excited to announce the city is working on the addition of 500 affordable housing units to the community through a partnership with Boulder County Housing Authority. In late June, Boulder County Transportation will be announcing the winning “No Fare Lafayette” idea submitted by residents to help increase bus use. We are a community that not only cares about one another, but also values a sustainable lifestyle.

Centennial Commemoration
At the close of World War 1 in 1917, the global world order had dramatically shifted. Decisions made one hundred years ago are still having an impact today. In collaboration with the Colorado WW1 Commemoration Commission and the Lafayette Historical Society, the Lafayette Public Library is proud to participate in a statewide effort to commemorate the war by hosting six book discussions led by local university professors. Ten free copies of each book will be available for distribution to the community. The next discussion event will feature All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque on August 10 at 6:00pm. Visit cityoflafayette.com/WWICentennial for more details and a listing of additional events.
