Laguna Lăng Cô – Vietnam Airlines Triathlon 2014 Returns In Style In Press Releases | on April 2, 2014 Vietnam’s Premier Triathlon at Laguna Lang Co, Central Vietnam boasts an incredible elite pro field and increasing age groupers Thua Thien Hue, Vietnam, March 2014 – World’s top professional triathletes and enthusiasts have gathered in Lăng Cô, Central Vietnam to compete in the return of the bigger and better Laguna Lăng Cô – Vietnam Airlines Triathlon 2014. The Laguna Lăng Cô – Vietnam Airlines Triathlon this year boasts an elite pro field with the most celebrated names from the triathlon circuit, with four-time World Champion Chris ‘Macca’ McCormack and three-time German Champion Till Schramm. The winners of last year’s event, Massimo Cigana in the men’s race and Radka Vodickova in women’s race, have also returned to defend their titles, promising an exciting competition on the course. Joining them are 7 other elite pro-athletes who hold several Ironman and 70.3 championship titles between them. The field includes names such as Ruedi Wild, Fredrick Croneberg and Katja Rabe. The women’s race is also joined by racing legend Belinda Granger, who officially confirmed this will be her final competitive year. Belinda has been part of the Laguna Phuket Triathlon family for 12 years and joined both events in Laguna Lăng Cô. The famed Laguna Phuket Triathlon will be her last ever professional triathlon.
The gruelling sport of triathlon combines three disciplines in consecutive sessions: swimming, cycling, and running. In addition, other Vietnamese single sport enthusiasts compete in a team relay category providing the chance to join triathlon racing as a runner, cyclist or swimmer – an ideal first taste of triathlon for beginners. Just two weeks before Hue Festival 2014, the Laguna Lăng Cô – Vietnam Airlines Triathlon 2014 promotes Central Vietnam as a premier sports tourism location and Asia’s newest must-go destination. Following the success of 2013’s School Water Project in which athletes helped raise money to provide fresh water filtration systems for 4 local primary schools, the 2014 race collaborates with local charity ‘Hue Help’ to teach water safety and swimming techniques to 1200 schoolchildren from 10 schools in Thua Thien Hue Province across 2014.
