LAGUNARIA III

Lagunaria is inevitably about people. About their memories, about their experiences, about learning, and all of which comes along with holding a camera in your hands.

This is the "biography" of my creation: I don't want to share time on certain periods. Kindergarten was replaced by the school, the school by, college by Institute of Architecture. But all of this things are specific. Everyone passes through it, gets the basic knowledge, only the numbers change in a biography. For me, the main thing is that I'm always learning. Regardless of time or place. I'm learning to feel. I'm learning to avoid imposed stereotypes. I'm learning to explore the world and to be constantly alive. I'm learning to accept the world sharply, in contrast, discarding excess. I'm learning to create, to develop. I'm learning to do pure art. Ultimately art is out of time.

A few questions with:

Leonor Valente (Portugal)

What's the importance of photography in your life?

Photography helps me understand the world: its most beautiful things and its most bitter things. To capture those moments gives me comfort and makes me believe that anything is infinite, endless as I want it to be. There's a lot of nature in your work, what role does it play on your creative process?

Nature is part of my well being so it’s constantly in my creative process. It’s essential for me to capture all the little details that nature gives us as dew or the smallest insect that just only the most discerning eye appears.

Are you workig on any projects at the moment? At this moment I’ve been invited to contribute with a zine, "Fertile Wilderness", and I would also like to publish a zine in my name and create a personal blog.

What have you learned from being a photographer? I’ve learned that every detail is never too small to be valued, we must be patient and learn how to shoot with love and kindness

A memory you'd like to share with us?

It was raining and I saw a couple, who despite the storm, inside a phone booth, were kissing. I stood there looking at them, and without thinking twice I asked them to take their photograph. After some timid laugh they accepted and I said, "I will focus and when okay, kiss her." The guy smiled and just said "Oh, we kiss and you shoot whenever you want." It was the perfect rainy day to me.
